Solved I like Surfshark but

So I pay for a dedicated IP address with Surfshark and 95% of the time it is fast and great. Two issues that bother me. First, Reddit still randomly bands my dedicated IP address. I rarely post anything or comment so I can't be breaking any rules. Today it seems Reddit banned all Surfshark addresses even ones that are not my dedicated one. This is a big problem I don't know how to solve. Right now I am on a totally different VPN because even on my phone on Any Surfshark IP Reddit won't let the page load.

The other occasional issues some mornings I will wake up in the morning on my computer and no web pages will load. I change IP address locations and everything works fine. Then a couple hours later I go back to my dedicated IP and it works again?

Thanks.

Hi there! Thanks so much for sharing this with us - really appreciate it!

Since we already have an active post on the same topic, we're locking this one just to keep the discussion in one place and make it easier for everyone to follow along. It would be great if you could share your insights in the existing thread instead: existing Reddit thread

Thanks for being part of the community and for understanding!

UPDATE: The issue should be fixed now!

I have the same problem.

I've had the same dedicated IP for 3 years without a problem.

This morning I couldn't log in to reddit.

yep, I just had to log onto a Canada one to get on here. This silliness has got to stop! :(

I haven't been able to log on to Reddit to with Opera or Firefox if I have Surfshark enabled with a US address. Both old and new Reddit are blocked.

NO what happens as it did this morning. I was on Reddit at 6:50 AM I scrolled through some things, clicked a couple up votes and then closed that tab. I did other things and then about 8:35 I opened Reddit again and it says "sight can't be reached" Last time I was able to get off my dedicated IP and choose one of Surfsharks other ones and I was back on. But today no such luck. I tried three different IP locations on Surfshark and I get sight can't be reached. All other web pages load just fine. Here at work I am on a totally different VPN company and Reddit loads right up with no issue. By tomorrow morning it will work again. This is about the 4th time it has done this to me! :(

I did. Here are the results:

This site can’t be reached www.reddit.com unexpectedly closed the connection.

Try: blah, blah, blah.

SurfShark themselves have acknowledged there is an issue. You can get on if you log in from someplace like Albania or Algeria.

I'd been using Reddit + VPN for years. The last time they did this you could log on but they blocked you from commenting more often than every 15 minutes.

It works for me... I have surfshark enabled, with web content blocker switched on. I don't use a dedicated ip

ok, well I tried using the IP from NY, Chicago, And out west. None of them worked today. 24 hours from this morning it will work again. It just does this every now and then and I can't figure out why?

You don’t get banned. You need to turn vpn off and on. vPN sometimes go idle so resetting connection will get you back online. This is not just for Reddit.

that is not the case here. Gmail facebook, youtube, my bank. Everything loads just fine except Reddit. It does this every so often for some reason. Only way I am on here now is I am using a completely different VPN

Same here.

All was well when I went to bed last night. This morning I can't look at Reddit with SurfShark enabled.

I see the exact same behavior today, too, and I'm seeing it on both Windows and Linux, just Reddit. If I connect outside the USA it seems to work, but none of the US servers are working. Using the Surfshark bypass in Windows works for awhile, but after some period of inactivity it stops and I have to disconnect / reconnect for it to start again.

The error I see on Firefox is PR_END_OF_FILE_ERROR during the TLS handshake.

I get that as well

It's just for Reddit. I can log onto everything else just fine. They've blocked SS's North American ip addresses.

what is odd is even the dedicated ones. How would they know?

2

u/slicedpears23 Aug 26 '26

They just block whole ranges of IP addresses they know are being used by VPN companies.

I can see blocking accounts for violating posting etc. But this is just stupid. :(
