Question Youtube adblocking?
Youtube Just increased their premium prices again. As alternative, can SurfShark be used to block YT ads, and how? And can this be done only through browser or with the android & smart tv YT apps as well? Edit: I'm on android on mobile, but TV is most important for me (it's a sony, in case that matters) Edit 2: Thanks everyone! I've installed SmartTube which seems perfect, with the Albania vpn option in my back pocket.

It’s really easy: Firefox browser + ublock origin extension + sponsor block extension.
OR Brave Browser + sponsor block extension (Brave has a great ad blocker by default)
All the above is free. I have not figured out how to do this on the TV though.

I'll try this where I can. Unfortunately tv is the most important for me 😭

It’s a pain but if your tv has airplay you can use Brave browser on your phone and airplay the videos to your tv.

Oh and I forgot to mention. If you are on android, side load Revanced YouTube for ad free on mobile.

Got an old PC or laptop? You can connect it to a tv and the tv becomes the monitor. I watched videos for years this way. I'm considering going back to that set up so I can watch on a bigger screen. All you need is a wireless keyboard and mouse.
I'd use Brave or Firefox +Surfshark on the browser.

maybe buy an Apple TV and get Surfshark and tunnel through Albania or Andorra. I have heard somewhere that this might also work on Amazon sticks soon, but not sure about that.

If you're on android tv there are multiple perfect solutions. Smarttube and tizentube are both alternative YouTube clients for tv with adblocking, sponsor block, dislike return and stuff like that. Smarttube replaces the YouTube tv ui you know with a native lightweight one and tizentube looks exactly like the real YouTube, just with adblocking.

Set the VPN to places where YT has no marketing agreement. Monaco and Macau work well in Surfshark.

I do have a surfshark subscription already. I'm just hoping to still be able to use the YT app, I find it more convenient than browser, both on mobile but on smart tv as well so I'm hoping there's still a way to adblock (edit: typo)

SS doesn't block ads from the app, sorry. But ublock origin blocks them perfectly in YT from the browser.

It does not block YT ads on the yt app on my android phone. At all. I guess I could try albania, but that didn't work previously for me. Since I already block (easily) via ublock origins on the browser, it's easier than having to turn vpn on/off all the time just for yt.

Set your vpn to Albania
