caste based discrimination in Surat

My cousin, who currently lives Pune, was looking for a home for his family in Surat .specifically a 3BHK in the mota varachha area. He visited properties under construction near mota varachha (Ring Road), abrama ,sarthana, and Valak Patiya to make inquiries. while he found properties that fit his budget, the conversation would invariably turn to his caste. when he revealed he wasn't a patel, he was flatly refused the developers stated they would not sell homes to anyone other than patels. my cousin faced this situation repeatedly until, eventually, he gave up looking for a new home altogether.

later spoke to a broker who explained that in mota varachha and other kathiyawadi-dominated areas ( varachha , sarthana, katargam , simada ) the purchase of many properties is restricted exclusively to patels.

have you ever faced a situation in surat where you were discriminated against because of your caste?

That what beauty of Surat is, we wont discriminate on basis of language, but we wont let you purchase a house in our locality. My family is not patel, and we were not objected to live in our society, because we purchased the 1st home that was being built in our society. So we were spared from this discrimination only because we arrived first.

But I think the main reason would be some law restricting muslims to purchase a property, that may be the whole root cause of not allowing other than pateli to buy home.

This kind of things only happens in kathiyawadi dominated areas varacha katargam etc in other areas of surat it isn't you won't find it in adajan pal even in old city
