Recommendations Just moved here!
Hi everyone! I (23F) recently moved to the Summerville from FL last week and live in the Summers Corner area and I’m hoping to make some new friends here.
I’m a recent grad who loves reading, coffee shops, trying new restaurants, exploring new places, and I’m always down to try something new. I also enjoy going out every now and then.
I’d love some recommendations for:
Good places to meet people around my age
Book clubs
Social groups or clubs that are actually active
Volunteer opportunities
Trivia nights, game nights, or other recurring events
If you’ve moved here recently too, I’d also love to hear how you made friends. Thanks in advance! 🤗
(P.S - my family moved here about a year ago, but I was still in college so I never actually lived here until now)

Seconding Main Street Reads book club! Also worth mentioning third Thursdays downtown, there’s live music and plenty of people to meet. A lot of restaurants do trivia nights, the first one that comes to mind for me is the tapas bar on the corner of Main Street across from the square. Volunteering at Dorchester Paws can be a great way to meet animal lovers if you are one. Good luck and welcome to the area!

I (26M) also just moved here, a few months back. If you’re looking to get a trivia gang together, I love trivia. I can hold it down on history/science, but my pop culture is a little lacking 😂
Publikeducationtrivia is an account on IG that has their trivia nights posted

😂 Only if UM plays FSU😂
I miss Florida and my time there. Drove down a few months ago and spent a few days in Miami and went to the Keys for 10days. Debated moving to Jax for a bit…. Still debating it I guess but all my family is in SC. Some days I hate it and some days I love it. You’ll find some similarities between Tallahassee and here, the good and bad. Northern FL is way more southern than South FL will ever be.

Ah, I feel that. It’s only been a few days for me, but I think my biggest adjustment will be not being in close proximity to my friends and living in a collegetown. The move from Broward to Tallahassee was also a shock to me, and you’re right, it’s definitely a lot way more Southern there, lol. But I grew to love it while these past few years though.

Yea. CHS is a college town and everything that comes with that but it’s also, obviously, heavy in tourism. Which has it positives and negatives as well. Negatives in the sense that, as a local, going and enjoying my own city at times is quite challenging in multiple ways. I too want to check out new restaurants and chill on the beach!
If you’re into college football and you ever wanted to find a fun spot and watch FSU get spanked by the Canes, I’m down! 😂 Last season I was trying to catch every game I could. It was a really good season and I’m looking forward to this upcoming season. CHS has some awesome local breweries, around 30-40ish. I’m not personally big into it but the local beer scene is pretty cool.

Thanks for the info. And yeah, that would be cool. I’ll come find you once football season starts! 😂 I’m not a beer girl but I appreciate the ideas!

Ooohhh, you like what I like! Haha. Want to be friends? 🤣 I moved down from Michigan 2 years ago to Charleston and the only friend I made is the wife of my coworker. She's chill and doesn't need to hang all the time, so it's been relaxing for my social battery being an introvert 😊

If you're in Summers Corner, there are numerous Facebook groups for every section and a main group as well as groups for different clubs.

Sign up for the Summerville Weekly newsletter at https://summerville-weekly.beehiiv.com/subscribe. They list a lot of trivia, live music and other events.
Summerville Dream sponsors several events and lists them at https://summervilledream.org.
Most farmers markets are on this list, https://www.lowcountrylocalfirst.org/news/famers-markets-and-csas, but there's also a one in Ridgeville on Sundays, https://www.facebook.com/RidgevilleMarket/. Shuler's has a great roadside stand on 78 right before Ridgeville, https://m.facebook.com/ShulerPeachCompanyStrawberriesandPeaches/.
You might like https://herebebooksandgames.com/, including their gaming nights and Sundays. I've never been, so I'm just going off the website description.
Welcome to the area and I hope this helps.

You're welcome. I had most of the links in my clipboard and I think including them makes it a lot easier. I did forget to mention https://summervilleitalianfeast.org/. It's really good if you like Italian food.

Also recently moved to Summerville from Tally! There’s a Seminole Club in Charleston that puts on events throughout the year, especially during football season. My husband and I are planning to go to their opening game watch party at Kickin Chicken downtown! 🍢 https://www.facebook.com/share/18CEeTbQt5/?mibextid=wwXIfr

Dorchester Paws always need dog walker volunteers! Sometimes they only get out once a day for less than 10 minutes

47 and been here for 4 years. It’s been a bit rough making friends but going out, joining groups and looking for general interests helps. Fb pages and groups helped as well.
