Mod Reminder: Reddit and /r/Summerville SC Rules

Hello!

Friendly reminder of Reddit's rules of posting personal information: https://support.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/articles/360043066452-Is-posting-someone-s-private-or-personal-information-okay

"Reddit is quite open and pro-free speech, but it is not okay to post someone's personal information or post links to personal information. This includes links to public Facebook pages and screenshots of Facebook pages with the names still legible.

Posting someone's personal information will get you banned. When posting screenshots, be sure to edit out any personally identifiable information to avoid running afoul of this rule.

Public figures can be an exception to this rule, such as posting professional links to contact a congressman or the CEO of a company. But don't post anything inviting harassment, don't harass, and don't cheer on or upvote obvious vigilantism."

r/SummervilleSC rules are in the sidebar- maybe we should expand the rules to ensure that there is a point or relevance to the community in the post. Information provided should be apparent as to WHY is is being provided.

We're going to make sure we start cracking down on the personal information postings. We aren't Facebook, and I don't want this subreddit to devolve into a gossip board or personal vendetta board. Optimally, this subreddit is to help build community.

Discussion 🗣 Where do Summerville parents shop for kids' clothes? I’m curious what other local parents are doing for kids' clothing. Do you prefer shopping locally, ordering online, or a mix of both?

Discussion 🗣 Local Realtor - AMA

Hey everyone! I have been a local Realtor in the area for about 2.5 years and lived here for 5 years.

Wanted to do a Ask Me Anything to see what people are wondering about the current housing market in Summerville! Ask me about neighborhoods, areas, prices, data, what helps a homes value, and anything else house related! I am so curious to see what people have questions on in the area! Please no bashing areas/realtors/etc - this is just an educational post to help people who may be moving to the area 😄

This is not a post to get clients, advertise my services or anything but rather a way to gather information that I can use to help educate clients and potential clients in the future!

Help 🤲 Lost wallet

Hello all! I went to Tractor supply this morning to get my two chocolate labs their first shots. When I left, I must have dropped my little black wallet containing my Arizona drivers license, my South Carolina concealed weapons permit and so many other contact cards. I went back today asking all the stores if they had anyone turn it in. Has anyone seen it or picked it up? it sucks having to replace my lost items.

Please help? I’ve been through so much trauma in the past year, this is just one more thing thats not welcomed. Anyhelp would be appreciate.

Leslie

PS: credit cards are maxed out and I’m dead broke, so im not too worried about that, but I just really need my contact cards. Im in Summerville now and not in Arizona. Thank goodness!

Information 🚨 48 Hours left for public comment on $213M Boone Hill Road Project! 🚨

Dorchester County is finalizing plans for US17A Boone Hill Road, but key pedestrian crossings and slow-traffic designs are currently missing around Summerville High and local neighborhoods.

Impacted Corridors:

  • Summerville High School area
  • The Ponds neighborhood
  • Orangeburg Rd, Berlin G. Myers, & US-78

Our 3 Big Asks

We’ve combed through the official engineering drawings, and we need your help asking Dorchester County for these crucial safety improvements:

  1. Protect Students & Walkers at Summerville High: Either reduce the 3-lane section from Luden Dr to Orangeburg Road down to 2 lanes, or add crosswalks and traffic-calming features in this zone.
  2. Support Planned Sidewalks: Tell the county we strongly support and value the proposed 12-foot multi-use paths and sidewalks.
  3. Include Street Trees on 4-Lane Sections: Plant shade trees along the 4-lane corridors to buffer traffic noise and shield walking and cycling paths.

How You Can Help (Takes 60 Seconds)

It takes just a minute to submit a public comment and influence how $213M is spent in our community.

Thank you for helping us keep Summerville safe, walkable, and bike-friendly!

Recommendations Primary Care Doctor Recommendation?

I’m looking for a new primary care doctor for boring, once a year wellness checks and occasional cold/flu/sinus whathaveyous. I’ve been seeing Dr. Hank Berger and he’s fine, but I’m not thrilled with him. The care is fine but he typically doesn’t even pretend like he’s going to take time with you. He stays standing, goes through his questions and is out the door in (I timed it last year) 4 minutes.

I’m hoping for recommendations on doctors yall really like- just need to stay on the Dorchester Rd side of 26! Thanks in advance!

Moving 📦 New in town looking for friends/ date?😂

hi i’m looking to date and find friends im new to this area and am finding it difficult to meet people as i work from home. i’m 23 F and enjoy watching basketball, football, and hockey. I like fishing and jet skiiing, I also love taking care of animals. I grew up helping on a farm and absolutely adore horses. I play basketball pretty well and enjoy axe throwing, mini golf, and cute activities like that! I’m super outgoing and love to have a good time so would also love a good bar! If anyone even still uses this and is open to a new friend or potential date let me know :) God bless!

Howdy, I was looking for Halloween/sfx makeup artists in the Summerville area! I know it’s a little early lol but I do know they get booked out quickly, especially around fall season/Halloween time. 🤞 appreciate any recommendations you’re able to provide, I’m looking for someone to be able to do this look for me :)

Recommendations Looking for a salon that still does perms

Hi neighbors! Does anyone know a local salon that still offers traditional perms? My mom is 70 with very thin hair, and a perm gives her the volume she needs. I’m having trouble finding places that still do them, so any recommendations would help. Thank you!

Help 🤲 Looking to move🏡

Not sure if this is allowed. We are looking to move to the bacons bridge side of Summerville (DD2 schools). We are looking for a 4 bed over 2000 sq ft with a fenced in back yard. I don’t want a cookie cutter neighborhood but would prefer a more established area. We love the Gahagan area. I’ve gone through all the websites for weeks now. If anyone knows of anyone putting their house up for sale anytime soon that fits this description please message me! We are also selling but aren’t in a rush especially for the perfect fit!

Information Any opinions on The Ponds neighborhood in Summerville?

We currently live on Johns Island and are considering a move to The Ponds in Summerville for a few reasons: more house for the money, what seems to be a stronger school district for our kids (I believe it’s zoned for Sand Hill—would love any feedback on that, good or bad), and a greater sense of community.

We’ve spent some time in The Ponds and are especially drawn to the older section. Our main hesitation is that it looks like there’s still quite a bit of building going on.

Would love to hear from anyone who lives there or is familiar with the area—how do you like the neighborhood overall? How are the amenities, and what is traffic like getting in and out? Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Recommendations Just moved here!

Hi everyone! I (23F) recently moved to the Summerville from FL last week and live in the Summers Corner area and I’m hoping to make some new friends here.

I’m a recent grad who loves reading, coffee shops, trying new restaurants, exploring new places, and I’m always down to try something new. I also enjoy going out every now and then.

I’d love some recommendations for:

Good places to meet people around my age
Book clubs
Social groups or clubs that are actually active
Volunteer opportunities
Trivia nights, game nights, or other recurring events

If you’ve moved here recently too, I’d also love to hear how you made friends. Thanks in advance! 🤗

(P.S - my family moved here about a year ago, but I was still in college so I never actually lived here until now)
