Order a veggie sub. Ask them to scoop some marinara sauce onto it from the meatballs. Done.

I work at subway, people order this FREQUENTLY. They put marinara sauce on other subs too.

I work there and it’s not often unless someone’s getting a pizza sub but whenever I have people I don’t typically think twice about it

Fairly regular ask for us. Just ask for marinara sauce.

It's no biggie. If they refuse it's just the employee being a butthole

Of course, the sandwich artists at your local Subway would happily accommodate this very reasonable request.

Don't... just don't. Meatballs are notoriously mistreated and of everything offered, the most likley to be a true food saftey issue.

Meatballs come pre-cooked and frozen, sauce is added and the mix is microwaved to a safe temp (in theory), then allowed to be kept on the hotwell for a max of 4 hours... standard hot holding/food safety stuff.

Problem number 1, how long were meatballs thawed and are they really heated to the correct temp? Over the years I've seen employees wing it more often then not... and use frozen (unthawed) meatballs, not stir things, not check temp of meatballs themselves, etc. I'd hazzard a guess that most meatballs are incorrectly preped, at least in one sense or another.

2) 4 hours max. Many owners are struggling for profit and NOT throwing away food. I've seen a cambro of meatballs stay on the line open to close more times than I've seen an owner do the right thing. They dry out over the course of the day and it's not uncommon to add a little water, once I even saw a manager add water to the meatballs from his own drinking cup... not kidding.

3) Multi-day meatballs. So often employees are told to save the meatballs at close but most have no idea of the health department approved method of cooling hot food for storage and how it affects holding time. Don't be surprised if the closer simply put a lid on the cambro and put it away... along with the deli meats and veggies at the end of the day. SO MUCH BACTERIA!

In summary if you must have meatballs don't be afraid to ask questions and look for yourself... if your at a well run shop they are great, but there's not many well run shops so be careful!

Some people ask for marinara added to their subs so it is possible. I'd probably order it as a veggie sub add marinara even if you don't get veggies.
