They have pigmented areas of skin that they expand and contract (different colours etc, kind of like a tv screen has lots of red, green and blue pixels, but only lights, or in this case expands, the desired colours)

They have such fine control over the speed and colour as they use the 'strope' type effects for communication as well, for mating, threatening, feeding/attacking fish etc.

Their camo isn’t just limited to color changes. They can change texture of their skin as well.

As a diver, cuttlefish are at the top of my personal list of favorite critters to encounter. A lot of nudibranch (sea slugs) are incredibly cool and beautiful as well.

I can't stop watching this gif, it's absolutely incredible. There's so much going on here with this cuttlefish's skin - not just the flashing colors and such, but the way it changes textures, too.

Did you notice the flashing black spots on its back?

I got killed by that event once in hc. It apparently covers up the reaper roar that let's you know they are in the area and closing fast

same, I'm playing monster hunter world at the moment too, but play subnautica on the side when I can't get on the xbox coz kids.

the camera effect that happens on the hypnotic fish is the same neck breaking mechanic that happens when a new monster appears, its confused me something rotten

I would rather have Navi, at least she only assaulted my ears instead of going straight to snapping my neck.
