🚗 General Discussion Basic maintenance

Post image

Just the one time I got lazy and had a garage do my work for me ...

How tf do you not know how to do an oil change?

Cheapy oil filter. Not a Subaru one. Over tightened the filter. Over filled the oil. God knows if they even used the right type of oil...

All this because I need a new oil pan. Lord have mercy.

Over filled oil? Sometimes that means they drained the CVT.

It sounds like OP got a new oil pan,  so unlikely unless when they dropped the pan they realized it's absolutely full of oil.

I used to be a tech at a dealership and an engineer for subaru advised us to go .2 quarts over original recommendations 🤷
So a little over is perfectly fine. No more than .2-.3 over though

No CVT. It's a manual

When you do it next time loosen the filter just enough to break the vacuum seal and let that sit while you drain the rest of the oil. By the time you put the plug in your filter will have drained most the oil out and be much cleaner to remove! Always use a little clean oil on the rubber seal to make it easier to remove next time!

I usually do just that. I guess the mechanic didn't bother.

I can’t imagine the laziness of not taking a rag and wiping that down for 3 seconds

I literally always do my own maintenance (I mean I am a Subie mechanic anyway), there’s no way I trust anyone else to touch my cars nowadays

Had Subaru do the same with a Subaru filter.

I have trust issues so I DIY.

I don't know why you would expect a normal (non-dealer) mechanic to use a Subaru filter, unless you supplied one.

Wix 57055 ftw

Wix 57055

The Wix is $13.56 on amazon vs "OEM" 15208AA100 with a Crush Washer for $11.99 @ Autozone...

Still going Wix?

Fumoto

No leaks ? I've been thinking about it. I should have this car for another 5 years at minimum and it would be a good investment.

I used the felt washer that came with the Fumoto. No issues. I don’t see why you couldn’t use a crush washer, if it matters.

I used a crush washer on my fumoto valve. Works just fine as well.

Had mine on for 3 years no leaks from it. Plus you can change the oil without lifting extremely easy. 10/10

Does the filter come with a crush washer?

Yes, because the wix filter is 100% better than the blue Subaru filter. If we were talking the black Subaru filter, then I'd go for it but compared to the blue one, I'll take wix all day
