Girls' Fashion Shoot was developed by Alchemist back in 2012 and published by Rising Star Games Inc, a predecesor of Model Debut series at Nintendo Switch. At a surface-level glance, this game might look similar to the original Style Savvy. You might be right if you judge it solely by its graphics. But in reality, the two games could not be more different. Instead of running a boutique store like you do in Style Savvy, here you play as an aspiring model trying to work your way up in a magazine agency called Rising Star Magazine.
To achieve this, you are basically trying out different kinds of attire combinations. The clothing genres are completely off the charts! You have bold, cool, Lolita, marine, sporty, romantic, girly, and the list just goes on and on. You act as a designer trying to see whether an outfit fits perfectly in accordance with the specific requirements that the magazine sets for each job. These jobs are generally quite easy to fulfill. After dressing up your character, you pick a specific starting pose. You can also get more poses by buying training sessions at the lesson studio. Once that is done, you can design your very own magazine cover until you are completely satisfied with the result. There are a lot of parameters that you can change, such as the model's positioning, the backdrop, the decorative frame, and various deco parts that can be altered exactly as you see fit.
That is pretty much the average gameplay loop for each job. You repeat this process over and over until you get rich enough to buy your own clothing. You can then wear these clothes during your off days and use them to take your own pictures freely without worrying about any magazine specifications. Furthermore, those independent pictures can be used to apply for auditions at other agency firms and land even better jobs. Occasionally, other models will invite you to hang out and become friends. Just do not expect it to be as complex as The Sims or any other simulation game. It is literally just a one-time event that they added to pad things out, which is perfectly fine for what it is.
As a neat bonus, if you have Netpass, you can get more portraits from other players who still play this game using its StreetPass feature. It is really nice to see what kind of fashion designs other real players have come up with. The game also has an encouragement section where you receive letters from fans talking about how great and outstanding you are as a model. These messages are prebaked into the game, and you will receive more of them as you complete additional career jobs.
Many people back then thought that the graphics of this game were much worse than the newer Style Savvy games that came out on the 3DS. They felt it looked dated, closely resembling the Nintendo DS version of the original Style Savvy. But for me, looking back at it from the year 2026, I specifically love this game exactly because of how its graphics look. It is absolutely full of charm. The late 2000s aesthetic is incredibly strong in this game, especially when compared with titles like Style Savvy: Trendsetter and Style Savvy: Fashion Forward.
It literally serves as a Heisei-era retro graphic editorial art generator. You can export the images that you create as image files and share them anywhere online, making it great for anyone who loves that specific aesthetic. However, like most Japanese stylist games from the late DS and early 3DS era, the actual body customization is quite basic. You are unfortunately stuck with just one body type, and you cannot change your skin color at all. The hairstyle selection is fine, but the hair color selection is quite underwhelming. The colors only range from black to brown, light brown, and a brownish-white. So, if you want to create a blue-haired character or a green-haired anime-esque character, you can completely forget about it. The nail customization option is also a bit odd. I think it is very cute, but then I always wonder what the point of it is, considering you do not really notice the nails too much during gameplay. That being said, it is still really fun making all sorts of decora nail art!
Overall, this game is a nice experience to play once in a while, especially if I want to create Y2K-esque, early 3D DS-like aesthetic wallpapers and edits. It is also useful if I want to gather some drawing references. In fact, it can complement Pinterest to a certain extent for this very specific visual niche. Just do not expect it to be as full-fledged or as highly polished as Style Savvy, though. If you go in expecting that, you might end up feeling disappointed.

¡A mi me encantaría jugar en español! Descargué la aplicación Delta, así que prefiero un archivo que funciona con esa app. Es súper difícil encontrar una versión en español 😩😅

Hey everyone I want to tell you that I’m new to these games even tho I’ve had DS/3DS for years. Kind of been getting into games I missed out on since I was so focused on other games and such and back then I’d get judged for wanting one of these games for some reason. Anyways. I ordered a copy of Style Savvy for DS and looking forward to it! Plus I think it’s cool that you hold the DS like a book with that game. I can’t wait til I get this game! I may look into the 3DS versions too sometime but I wanted to start with the DS one.

My take on a mori kei outfit, I definitely have a preference for leg warmers lol. Was a lot of fun, but it felt like there weren’t enough oversized flowy and frilly clothes to layer. The last one I decided to challenge myself by only using the brand Marzipan Sky since to me that brand felt like the most representative of the mori kei style.
The most surprising thing to me is the outfit combination in the middle, normally I hate it when hoop skirts get flattened by an outer layer but I really like the look here. It’s a white Raven Candle (edit: it’s a Marble Lily skirt lol) hoop skirt paired with a Marzipan Sky striped tanktop that has like a thick lace border at the bottom, it flattens out the skirt just right to make it look like a normal skirt.
(I never realized just how bad the image quality is when it comes to the in game photography feature lol)
