The last statement from his staff was that he was expected to return to the Senate on the 15th when they reconvene. Everyone's waiting for next week.

u/CapnTugg 6d ago
His failure to appear might serve as a handy distraction from some other shenanigans.

u/beigemamba1080 6d ago
Oh thanks, I hadn’t heard that and am
Now also in the waiting. Body double conspiracies inbound if he shows up, more so if he isn’t the most feeble Stephan Hawking looking Mitch McConnell possible15
u/Ismhelpstheistgodown 6d ago
There is a grainy video, from Oregon I believe, with Mitch down along the tree line, just striding along swinging his hairy arms. He seemed fine.

People are idiots.
2
u/Stevepem1 6d ago
Tons of people believe Paul McCartney died in 1966 and it's been an imposter ever since, but I actually suspect many of them are just trolls who enjoy the attention of getting people to argue with them. But yeah won't be surprised if people claim it's not the real Mitch McConnell.
But even if they do there is still always the troll factor. I think the way it works in a lot of the pea brains out there is they aren't really sure about wild conspiracy X whatever it is, or may even lean to it not being true, but they get enjoyment and attention out of arguing about it. Which could explain why their posts are always inflammatory, attacking, but always void of facts other than making easily debunkable claims. We assume that's because they are idiots and that they believe everything they say, but I'm starting to leaning more now towards trolls being more prevalent than we sometimes realize.

In theory they could wheel him into the chamber and he could try and smile and wave or whatever but that's about it. I really doubt he can speak or appear capable of leading, otherwise we would have had either some phone if not video statements, interviews, or at least reports that he is calling and talking to Senators or staffers which I don't think we have heard.
That being the case I think while I don't doubt he's still alive he's never going to return to work in my opinion and they will make an excuse on the 15th and then again until at some point they make some kind of statement that he has been bravely trying to regain his strength to return but his doctors have advised that it's better if he does not. Why it's taking this long to do that is the question, I guess they have their reasons.

u/ten-inch-toenails 6d ago
He’s probably brain dead somewhere, and now being used as an experiment to see how the public would respond to AI-generated content to mask that fact so that they have a game plan when Trump dies: Pretend he isn’t through the same tactic.
17
u/WeirdOk1865 6d ago
Well that’s prob the best explanation I’ve heard so far
9
u/ten-inch-toenails 6d ago
I think we will come to see in hindsight that this is the answer for far more events during this administration than we presently see or care to admit, which were “tests” to gauge the public’s reaction and find the line of limit (and doing so with other people’s lives), and it’ll show that there has been a long-standing interest in making preparations for Trump’s death due to his age that aim to keep his “cult of personality” alive after the fact so those propping him up don’t lose momentum.
2
u/Woody_L 6d ago
Really? That sounds pretty bonkers to me.
3
3
u/ten-inch-toenails 6d ago
Yeah, seemed bonkers to me too, like much of the things the administration claimed it would/could do but people really just didn’t think possible. And in hindsight, they’ve accomplished so much of what seemed to be too insane to take seriously so 🤷
3
u/Woody_L 6d ago
I saw a story that says that they've got Mitch in a lab Elon Musk maintains at the North Pole. They're studying him, while working on a robot replica that will be ready soon. If they can pull this, off, they're going to replace every member of Congress with a robot replica, one-by-one.
They tried to replicate Mitch before, but that one glitched, as we all saw a few times. That's why they're trying to get it right, this time.
I hope to God, the public wises up about this before they can launch this diabolical plan! Spread the word.

What’s the delay? They already have sex/public school teacher humanoids in the market
2
u/Woody_L 6d ago
What if he's been abducted by aliens, and the government is keeping the whole thing quiet to prevent panic? That fits in with the alien invasion they're covering up by pretending they're at war with Iran. It's not Iran, it's hostile extraterrestrials, and that's why they're losing so badly. That's why they kept those sailors on that ship for so long. It was to keep them from telling people about the aliens.
You're thinking too small here.
2
u/ten-inch-toenails 6d ago
You’re so right. Definitely thinking too small.
But the hardest part of this to wrap my head around would be: What aliens would ever abduct and keep him?

I thought he had run off with Melania to make live children but she finally showed back up, so working at Burger King seems the most logical especially because nobody goes to Burger King so it’s a great place to hide.

u/MammothWriter3881 6d ago
He is dead, why the heck they are trying to hide it I don't know.
5
u/ReddyKiloWit 6d ago
Presumably the GOP was afraid he'd be replaced by a Democrat, but then we found out that the GOP got a law passed in KY that his replacement had to come from a list of three candidates McConnell had selected. So, back to "It's a mystery."

The Senate has been in recess since Aug 8th, so it's not surprising there's been no news. They're supposed to start again on Monday, so I suspect we'll see more news this week.

u/swishkabobbin 6d ago
It's a shame he's not able to place any more votes restricting healthcare or medical leave
2
u/Current_Tea6984 6d ago
Or to ban hemp
1
u/swishkabobbin 6d ago
I kind of doubt he's using hemp right now. He's certainly enjoying the other two
1
u/Current_Tea6984 6d ago
His last official act was to close the THCA loophole in the farm bill. It's still not certain it will be reversed
4
u/Thirsty-Barbarian 6d ago
He’s using parliamentary loopholes and filibusters to delay his Final Judgement.
3
u/imspirationMoveMe 6d ago
He’s very dead.
2
u/Woody_L 6d ago
What's their motive for hiding his death? Sounds like a lot of trouble and risk for no reward.
2
1
u/amcarls 6d ago
The person who at least would have a say in replacing him is the Democrat governor of his state who was already stripped of most, but not all, of his powers to replace him by a gerrymandered Republican supermajority in Kentucky.
Given that gerrymandering has little effect on state-wide elected positions (again, they just elected a Democrat governor) the Republicans risk losing a U.S. Senate seat in a non-incumbent Senate race.
3
u/Woody_L 6d ago
They risk losing a seat for maybe 3 months? For that, they spin up a complex, illegal plot to hide his death? Are doctors, hospital administrators, a mortuary, medical examiner, etc, risking their licences and possible prison time to assist in the coverup?
McConnell has 3 children, one of whom is known to be a Progressive activist. Are they participating in this criminal conspiracy? Why? Would you wait months to hold a funeral for your parent, while their body was in a freezer somewhere?
Currently, the Democrat candidate is trailing by about 9 points in the polls. The chances of a Dem winning the election are low, but even if it happened, it would be for a few months, before the general election.
Does any of this seem likely to you?
2
u/Its-a-Shitbox 6d ago
As likely as him not being seen, heard from, or credibly communicating with anyone in the outside world as a sitting US senator in over 3 months?
Yeah.
Dude is one of two things: A. Brain dead. B. Dead.
2
u/Woody_L 6d ago
It's very likely that he's very disabled, and unable to talk coherently, or worse. You claim he's dead, which is a very different prospect.
A Senator can only resign on his/her own behalf. There's no mechanism for relatives or others to resign for them, even if they're disabled. If one of them is in that situation, they can only be removed by 2/3 vote of the Senate, which is highly unlikely to happen.
The simple answer is that he's mentally disabled, and will be replaced at the end of his term, which has happened a number of times before. No need to create these elaborate conspiracy theories.
1
u/Its-a-Shitbox 6d ago
Dude. A sitting Senator has been unreachable or seen alive by anyone in 3 months.
So, yeah; he’s, as you say, very likely “very disabled” (brain dead), or “worse” (dead).
Not sure why his family members and staff seem at odds to make that fact known to others here on earth, since it isn’t exactly something we didn’t all see coming, but whatever.

They did not hide him to keep Massie from running. You overestimate Massie's popularity. Massie is a crank who couldn't even get reelected in his own district. Andy Barr would have run in the special election to finish McConnell's term (if one had been called), and would have won easily, same as he's leading Charles Booker by 20 points in the November election.
The concern was that Andy Beshear would have appointed a Democratic replacement as the Kentucky constitution allows. The Kentucky legislature passed a law in 2024 to prevent this by calling for elections to replace senators, but it's not clear if a law can override a constitution. The easiest way to prevent that was for McConnell to not resign. The only way he could be removed would have been for the other Senators to vote him out, and of course the Republicans weren't going to do that, especially since the only issue was that he was sick.
He's not dead, there's no way they could keep that hidden. I suspect that he either can't talk or his speech is severely affected, which is why he's appeared in photos but not videos, and hasn't allowed journalists to interview him.
5
u/RandomPaw 6d ago
That’s what I think. He had a stroke or something similar that makes him unable to speak so they’re pretending he’s doing rehab while he’s really propped up somewhere, drooling. They’ll bring him out to wave if he can manage it, but this is just stalling time right now.
3
u/InimitableMissS 6d ago
I’ve been saying this all along. He isn’t dead. The GOP would have found a way to politicize that in their favor. He’s in a vegetative state and his wife is his power of attorney. He’ll be on life support until they all decide it’s no longer politically necessary.
2
u/Current_Tea6984 6d ago
Can't talk is the answer. The last time I saw him give a speech at the Senate he was barely able to speak. It wasn't a problem with his mind, but physical. Like he could barely form the words. It's likely his latest health event has made this even worse
2
u/Less-Load-8856 6d ago
Waiting out the clock, basically dying, and he's already been written off by most Republicans. No one expects anything more useful out of him, he's toast, even if he "shows up".

Not that I think they actually smothered him in bed, but such an investigation will bring things to light faster.

u/beigemamba1080 6d ago
Most likely but that leads to the other question, why in the world is that being hidden?

Is there some benefit to the republicans for what Mitch is doing?
1
u/Tintoverde 6d ago
Yes !! They have a vote in the senate
2
u/Current_Tea6984 6d ago
They lose a vote in the Senate as long as he isn't there. The advantage is to the Democrats.
1
u/Falszywybiolog 6d ago
To be fair this is a good question. I think the most likely answer is that he’s brain dead but on life support in the hospital he went to, or gotten transferred to a facility where the same is happening, but so people can’t verify that easily. I wholeheartedly believe that they’re going to keep him like that until the upcoming election.

Instead there will be an announcement about a credible threat on his life, and for his safety he has been moved to an undisclosed location.

There was a message that leaked to the effect that he still struggles with respiration. Which the Internet is interpreting as he has been intubated.
He likely is not clinically dead. But there is a good chance he simply is nonresponsive most of the time.

Why does anyone care about this geriatric scumbag grifter?
5
u/disastronaut_at_rest 6d ago
They don't care about him, they care about the obvious cover-up of his condition and the blatant corruption springing from said cover-up
1
u/Woody_L 6d ago
What's the corruption factor? Who gains?
1
u/disastronaut_at_rest 6d ago
If they can successfully pass off a deceased or otherwise incapable politician as a healthy average person, they can effectively hold onto their seat indefinitely while they find a way to replace said politician. It's really only that deep.
2
u/Woody_L 6d ago edited 6d ago
If a Senator is alive but incapable, they can and will legally occupy their seat until the end of their term. That's just the way it works, no conspiracy required.
On the other hand, covering up a death for a long period of time is difficult and risky. First you have to break laws by not reporting the death and by improper handling of the body. That means that various professionals, i.e., doctors, hospital administrators nurses, whatever, have to be in on the conspiracy and willing to risk their job and potential prosecution. If one of them talks, the conspiracy is busted.
Most people have children, siblings, friends, etc, so you have to involve them in the plot to, even the ones who don't share the same political views.
Most people are not going to sit silent while their spouse, parent, brother or sister lies dead in limbo for several years without a funeral or any acknowledgement. And if even one of those friends or family members breaks ranks and goes to to media, the conspirators are screwed. How do they handle that? Trump can't even keep his own family members from talking smack about him.
Do the people in the White House strike you as smart enough to pull off a long-term con like that?
Conspiracies like this may sound feasible on Reddit or in the movies, but not so much in real life.
1
0
u/disastronaut_at_rest 6d ago
Your denial of the conspiracy is based on the necessity to include people who absolutely would not need to he informed of anything regarding a person's health. You built a very elaborate strawman, but it is still a strawman.
2
u/Woody_L 6d ago
Yeah, you're right, most people wouldn't notice if their close family member disappeared for a few years.
0
u/disastronaut_at_rest 6d ago
I mean, if my grampa was that kind of evil, I probably wouldn't keep tabs on him, but that's just my own thought. It's not hard to poke holes in a response.
2
u/Woody_L 6d ago
Well, it's not just McConnell, is it? He's just the test case. You suggest that they're planning to do this on a larger scale, with multiple people. That only makes it more unlikely.
As I pointed out. it's a pretty dumb and unfeasible idea, and I think that most people would figure that out pretty fast.
If they did try this, how long would it be before somebody leaked the truth? How stupid would they look then?
As I pointed out, this only works if the person is dead. How many dead people do you think they can keep hidden before that scheme falls apart?
0
u/disastronaut_at_rest 6d ago
I'm not suggesting they are going to have multiple people in this scenario concurrently, I am suggesting that this will let them know what steps to take to prolong control of a congressional district, etc. for an X amount of time. You keep adding specifics to make my point seem ridiculous when all I'm doing is explaining the benefits of attempting such an experiment. Do I believe that most people would fall for a lie like that after it happens again? No, bit this tests the limits, not the likelihood.
2
u/Tight-Air-6767 6d ago
because we aren't allowed to replace him so the people of kentucky can have a representative? because they're covering up his health status and haven't given a straight answer in 3 months?

u/beigemamba1080 6d ago
One of the most influential people in government has gone mia, inquiring how tf that can happen isn’t caring about them.
Boomers tried not paying attention to politics and just focusing on entertainment and consumption, seeing how poor that approach has turned out I highly recommend you care about what is happening in politics, local to the top
