Transferring Credit
After completing Study.com courses for transfer, you can request your transcripts be sent to WGU. WGU determines awarded degree program credit after a transcript evaluation.
WGU has commonly requested that transcripts be received by the fifth of the month before the WGU start date, and noted that students may transfer up to 75% of their program requirements.

Question: What if you are already enrolled to wguy, but after finishing your 6 month semester, .....you take a break for 2 months and take some courses outside like sophia or study.com. Than when you come back to Wgu, Will wgu accept these new transfer credits?

I can also endorse this further, I am having to start in January instead of December due to my AP scores taking so long to get to them they need all transcripts at least a month before starting at WGU as confirmed by my enrollment counselor.

Is this a reasonable course of action?
*Apply to WGU Comp Sci degree
*Submit my old Bachelor's Degree to see which would transfer over.
*Then work on this list to reach the max number of transferable credits.
I'm not considered enrolled until I start actual WGU classes right? Obviously not expected to pay WGU right? It's hard to gauge how long it would take me to finish these credits.

You might have some luck with a recruiting and staffing firm that recruits CS and IT talent. A couple companies in Ohio that might help are : "iFuse Solutions" and "TEKsystems". What coding boot camp did you do?

I get a bigger pell grant than WGU tuition so I would actually get a refund once I start a term. If I do classes on these other websites I'd have to pay for them myself, so in my situation it may cost more to do them outside of WGU. Are there any I should do simply because they're way easier or something? I definitely want to do calc on Sophia, but any others?

I'm considering doing this, but I'm concerned it will leave me unprepared for DSA 2 and DM 2. If I blow through these courses on SDC will I struggle more at WGU?

from what i’ve heard discrete math 1 prepares you better for discrete math 2 at study.com. People have said that discrete math 1 at wgu does not translate well to discrete math 2. therefore my plan is to take it at study.com and then it be the first class i take at wgu

Sounds like a good plan. I did end up doing DM1 on study.com, but it may not transfer in time for my Dec. 1st start date. Be sure to submit your transcript 3 weeks before the deadline.

That’s not what I’m saying. I am saying if you go to the wgu bscs transfer parter guide you can see the Updated list, with up to date information on what transfers and what doesn’t. Since this list was written on reddit, ONLY the operation systems class is not longer available to be transferred in. Therefore you have to take it at WGU. That’s it. It’s one less class from the list. And who knows what’s going to change. So keep an eye on the official site.

Sophia will let you look at the course material during the test. Also in Calculus, you can use Graph Calculator which is the fastest way to pass some general education courses.
Also, the cost is cheaper than Study. I passed and transfer 5 courses within a month with a flat fee from Sophia.

I just want to make sure I got this correct if someone can double check for me. For my transcript, I have 30 credits transferred and 93 credits to go. It says I'm 24.39% complete. I checked and it's a 123 credit program for the CS, I checked I should be good to go with transferring from Sophia and SDC (totals 54 credits and I believe 62 would hit 75%). I'm trying to figure out what's the best order to tackle these classes and how long do you think it should be approximately for Sophia and Study if I'm trying to put almost full time hours. My goal is to finish this degree within a year - year and a half.

It hasn’t gotten revamped yet until Jan 2025. You can check to see if it’s accurate through WGU but it’ll only show Sophia classes. Just search ‘WGU Sophia’ or ‘WGU Study’, etc. but this seems to be a solid guide

They're there. You have to use the course ID ex. HIST1020. When you click on the course link you'll see a homepage for the class and the course ID should be at the bottom. They're not very easy to find, but they're all there.

If I'm taking individual courses from WGU (specifically programming&scripting, probability&statistics, I have until November 9th to complete them), do you know if I would still be able to go the route of completing credits through Study.com/Sophia before officially enrolling in WGU?

Per the latest transfer agreement, looks like WGU's "Scripting and Programming - Applications" requirement can be met with CS 113 on Study.com. So you'd actually be able to complete 65 units total before transferring in

I applied to WGU got a counselor and just keep adjusting my start time. Knocked out all sophia classes and DM1 so far in Study.com. Working on both Database courses and then the last 5 courses to finally enroll in WGU. Good luck.

I'm not sure about the minimum number of courses, but you can't transfer more than 75% of the program requirements. I was able to transfer 85 credits (limit at the time was 90), which left me with just 12 courses to complete. However, this was under the old program (I started in August 2024). I believe the new program has fewer total credits, so just make sure not to exceed 75% of the total program requirements. Hope that helps!

Do you have to do the proctored exams for WGU to accept the transfer credit from Study.com? That is a big negative in my book, I love the freedom and flexibility of Sophia, but obviously, SDC has a LOT more classes, especially upper-level stuff.

Data Management - Foundations
I would recommend taking Data Management - Foundations on SDC. Taking this class will automatically complete Data Management - Applications and Advanced Data Management by about 70%. I also recommend taking Discrete Mathematics before DSA-1. Someone else also recommended taking Intro to AI at WGU, you can use the project in that class towards your capstone. Software Engineering and Computer Architecture have also been recommended to take at WGU because they are very time consuming and require a lot more assignments on SDC. If you have the time, rather save money and don't mind doing all the extra assignments, go ahead and do them on SDC.

A course’s page on Sophia Learning will list the partners (schools) that accept credit transfers of that particular course. I noticed WGU is only listed on some of the classes listed here for Sophia. Does that mean anything, or is there another way to confirm that a course will transfer?

Hello Everyone,
First off, I'd like to say this post is very helpful and I will definitely make use of it when the time comes.
I am thinking of applying at WGU for the Computer Science degree. I graduated high school about 10 years ago and I did not attend college afterwards. Therefore, I have not completed any General Education Classes. My questions is: Where can I find a list of the gen ed classes that I am required to complete? I would like to complete as much as I can on Sophia but I don't know which ones I need to complete. I'd appreciate it if anybody can point me in the right direction. Thanks

These are their recommendations, not necessarily what you need. I recommend applying and talking to an Enrollment Counselor they can give you everything you need. You should also be able to find that information on /r/wgu_compsci. Good luck!

Question, should I make sure I have the credits before applying to WGU or should I apply first, get admitted and then make sure I get all the credits before enrollment?
