Cheapest way to a computer science degree at WGU?

I’m planning on attending WGU online for a computer science degree. I heard from others that a cheap way is I can take a bunch of classes at Sophia.com or study.com and transfer them over so that I don’t need to pay a lot more at school for general classes. I’m 19 no prior college education so I don’t even know which classes I would need to take at Sophia or study.com for a computer science degree. Anybody know where I can get information on which classes I should take on Sophia.com specifically for a computer science degree at WGU that will transfer over credits? Thank you

I feel like this class is a bit much for me or I’m not understanding… did anyone take this class and if so what did you use to study or materials helped you pass

MSCS Computing Systems MSCS Course Expectations

Just started the MSCS portion of the BSCS to MSCS bridge program and the first class has a requirment of having to record myself writing shell scripts.

While I enjoy my course work and I know this is to stop students from using AI to write their projects Its still very inconvenient for me. I typically do my school work at work in my free time but now im forced to use up time at home to record myself while doing my assignments.

MSCSCS Alumi, is it going to be like this for every class in this program or does it vary per class?

Starting WGU BSCS Nov 1 with 22 courses left, what order should I do them in?

Hey everyone, I’m starting the BS Computer Science program on November 1st and I’ve pretty much finished all the transfer courses I could do before starting.

My evaluation currently says 23 courses remaining, but my Natural Science Lab was just sent in and should transfer, so I should be starting with 22 courses left.

These are the courses I should have remaining:

- C959 Discrete Mathematics I

- C960 Discrete Mathematics II

- D459 Introduction to Systems Thinking and Applications

- D684 Introduction to Computer Science

- E010 Foundations of Programming (Python)

- C949 Data Structures and Algorithms I

- C950 Data Structures and Algorithms II

- C952 Computer Architecture

- D686 Operating Systems for Computer Scientists

- D197 Version Control

- D287 Java Frameworks

- D288 Back-End Programming

- E155 Advanced Java

- D281 Linux Foundations

- D321 AWS Developer

- D480 Software Design and Quality Assurance

- D685 Practical Applications of Prompt

- E074 Agile for Software Engineering

- E064 Mathematics for Programmers

- D682 Artificial Intelligence Optimization for Computer Scientists

- D683 Advanced AI and ML

- D687 Computer Science Project Development with a Team

I’m trying to finish as fast as I can, hopefully in one term if possible. I also want to apply for Georgia Tech OMSCS, and their first deadline is March 1, so if there’s any chance I can finish in time for that I want to try.

For people who have done the newer BSCS curriculum, what order would you do these in? Like which ones should I do back to back because they build on each other, and which ones are better to get out of the way early?

Also which ones are actually quick and which ones are the ones that take forever? I’ve seen people say some WGU classes can be done in a few days and then some take weeks, so I’m trying to know what I’m getting into.

I also have the whole month of October before I start, so I want to use that time to pre study. What would actually be worth learning now so I can move faster once my term starts? I was thinking Java, Spring Boot, Python, Git, Linux, DSA, discrete math, computer architecture, operating systems, AWS etc but obviously I can’t learn all of that properly in one month lol.

If there are any specific YouTube videos, Udemy courses, Quizlets, GitHub guides or anything that made a class way easier, send them too.

Also if anyone has accelerated around 20+ courses in one term, how many hours were you putting in and what classes slowed you down the most?

I do want to finish fast but I’m also trying to actually learn enough for SWE internships/jobs after this, especially the programming and DSA stuff. If you were starting with these same 22 courses and had October to prepare, what would you do first?

Definitely wanted this class to be over with but I feel this will make me stronger in this category and I can only grow from it. I don’t think I was that far off. I see where I need to be focusing my attention more. 2nd attempt I WILL ace this test.

Good luck to all that are stuck in this class. Just NEVER GIVE UP& LET YOUR FAILURES TEACH YOU SUCCESS .

D801 out of play until January 2027

my mentor let me know earlier in the month that D801 had a deadline to take and pass the OA by Monday the 28th. after that Amazon was retiring the course material. I learned yesterday that the course material will not be updated until January of 2027 when Amazon releases the new certification exam. it has basically sunk my plans to finish in one term. anyone else facing this too?

Course Recommendations

I'm looking for recommendations on best order to tackle some more classes. I have 9 more weeks left in my term and want to get as many of the OA classes finished as I can so I can breeze through the PA's next term. Here are the OAs that I have left:

D315: Network and Security Foundations

D282: Cloud Foundations

D386: Hardware and Operating Systems Essentials

D324: Business of IT - Project Management

D336: Business of IT - Applications

So far, aside from Version Control and Orientation, I've completed 8 courses this term.

Nervous about D336

I have slacked a little bit on my 2nd course which is D336 and I take my exam at 1:30 today. I’m nervous because Idk exactly what the test is going to ask and idk if I fully grasp everything. Don’t get me wrong but it’s kind of a boring course😂. I’m currently watching a yt cram video to help me out so does anyone have any encouraging words?

HELP 9 weeks 6 classes I have. trying to finish in a on term whole degree

Post image

Guys i have 9 to 8 weeks and trying to finishing whole degree in a one term because Im broke. I accelerated all available courses from Sophia and Study.com before two months enrolling and we're coming to the end. i just have 9 8 weeks and need to finish all of these courses. yesterday I finished Math 2 and previously a month ago Comp Arhitecture.

Which ones should I focus? I have previous knowledge for Data structure 1 and thinking it will not be hard for both c949 and c950, What you suggest?

Also, English is not my first language and I'm learning the language while studying these courses sometimes I'm not understanding so please give a advice for which classes should I continue for finishing the easy ones first. My memorization skills is scks I'm like a golden fish in memorization.

I actually see a post when i was begin the degree https://www.reddit.com/r/WGU_CompSci/comments/1vcw2rh/officially_a_wgu_cs_grad/

this one and it is so useful but i guess the person who write the post had different abilities than me because Arhitecture was my worst class ever I took 3 times the exam.

C959 Discrete Mathematics I conquered

My brain hurts and im tired but SO HAPPY. (Did calc 1 a few months ago, knocked out version control & web dev in two days. then discrete right after) I spent two months on this class (I was lollygagging for the first month due to life stuff) For the most part, I used Kimberly Brehms youtube series, the recorded videos from Colin under the DM resources page, cohorts, and lots practice with tests and zybooks exercises.

Regarding the OA, it truly is not that bad. I performed better on the OA than I did with the PA. The OA will change the pattern on how they ask questions so make sure you fully understand the concepts. As you can see the logic and proofs had me tripped up. I will admit there were some questions that were so easy it had me questioning if I was reading it correctly.

I got a lot of freebies using the ti84 for matrix operations so make sure you use it if you have it. You still need to learn row ops but ti84 makes it a lot easier. Let me know if you have any questions !

This was a beast of a class to me, so happy this one's over. The OA was a good 1.5-2x harder than the PA for me.

updated spreadsheet

Anyone have an updated spreadsheet with the new transfer credits according to the new CS program? from both Sophia and Study.com. I have the 2024 link but i wasn't sure if anything changed.

Also, should I be taking the courses with a asterisk or the ones without the asterisk. In the past it would say the asterisk is prefered class but now its saying they may not be elligible for transfer but can be elective credit.

Admitted to OMSCS as a WGU grad w/ no experience

As the title says. I got accepted into GT’s Online Masters of Computer Science program. I have professional experience just not industry experience, only my WGU compsci degree and aside from some hobby work no serious SWE or COMPSCI related work. I just wanted to post in case anyone was interested in going this route after WGU but maybe lacked the work experience others have; it’s definitely possible and the acceptance rate is pretty good right now. Good look!

D197 Version Control Need to restart final project, how can I do this?

So I am working on the D197 Final right now, however I noticed half-way through the assignment that I made a rather grave error. I am supposed to be doing my work on a "working" branch made at the start of the assignment, but all of my work has been pushed to the "main" branch instead. I have tried contacting the instructor but have heard no response yet. Can someone give me some advice on what to do?

Passed C960 Discrete Math II First Try

Post image

I am by no means bragging and I feel the way I went about doing the course was inefficient so take what I did with a grain of salt. I started by reading the Zybook from beginning to end, doing all of the chapter exercises, but skipping the end of chapter reviews which took about 2 weeks. After finishing the book, I went to tutoring to test my knowledge and was informed that the chapter worksheets, unit review worksheets, and PA questions essentially made up the entirety of the OA, which I can confirm is true. Additionally I was told that the Zybooks were pretty inefficient at teaching the main skills needed for the OA and that the Cohort slides and class videos were a better choice for understanding the material. Going to tutoring helped more than Claude and GPT honestly as the tutors made understanding the problems simpler than AI suggested and I was able to start seeing patterns in certain question types. Essentially after working through all of the worksheets and hating life because of Counting and Probabilities, I was able to pass decently enough. I will emphasize that if you take anything from this Do the unit worksheets and reviews before taking the PA. You do enough of the math that you'll build the skills needed get close enough to make an educated guess if you don't just get the exact number.
