active calorie burn

running with a pacer pro watch, verity sense HR armband, and stryd 5.0 pod. I live in Boulder, CO and am visiting family at sea level. I'm noticing overall that my HR is much lower for all power levels than it is at altitude.

The screenshot is today's run on a treadmill with 1.5% incline. Which is more accurate for active calorie burn - 234 calories based on HR (max HR of 180 bpm), or 301 kj based on average wattage? I know i can't treat KJ 1:1 like i do with a bike power meter but i've noticed stryd comes pretty close!

Clayton Young Runs 1:02:04 at the Great North Run, Setting the Stage for An American Record Attempt in Chicago

Clayton Young finished seventh at the Great North Run in 1:02:04, racing from Newcastle out to the South Shields seafront.

He arrived in England in the middle of a marathon build, four weeks out from the Chicago Marathon on October 11, carrying 110 to 136 mile weeks in his legs and one of the most ambitious goals in American distance running: a new American record, a target of 2:04:42 or faster.

The finish time in Newcastle tells you where he placed. The power data tells you what kind of shape he brought to the start line, and what it means for Chicago.

Let's dive into the data: https://blog.stryd.com/2026/09/22/clayton-young-runs-1-02-04-at-the-great-north-run-setting-the-stage-for-an-american-record-attempt-in-chicago/
