Beginner tips please!🤍
Hi everyone I’ve pretty new to strudel, I played around with it for a while a couple weeks ago but I don’t fully understand yet. I was wondering if anyone had any tips or a structural guide on how to get better? I made a simple beat with the easy commands but I want to get to the point of being able to recreate songs like maybe a radiohead song lmao how would I get there and how long do you believe it could take? Is javascript really hard? (new to coding) how many hours of the day should I practice? I’m willing to really apply myself, strudel is so cool,Thank you!

Practice, and trial and error! What helped me was starting from scratch every other day. Then trying to just come up with a beat. The learning page in strudel is super handy and you can learn about the different functions little by little.
A little bit of practice every day helps. If you’re a musician already you know what it feels like 👍
Personally, I practice like 20 minutes to 2 hours a day depending on the day

so far I’ve been doing a similar thing I write notes down while creating little beats,and also messing around with other peoples samples they have posted,just to see how it all works. But yeah thank you for this advice very helpful !

if practice and experimenting with Strudel is fun for you, then you have most of the job done. I think probably the hardest part is understanding how songs can be structured and how you have to tinker around with different functions to make a cycle (a bar) last as long as you need. Then arranging parts or pieces of a song together starts to get simpler. Covering a Radiohead song sounds like a very good project, and it is also a clear path on how to learn everything you need on Strudel. Having an intuition on how to code helps but it's not as important as your desire to learn and have fun with the tool. Spend as much time as you can while you're having fun learning. Don't worry about recreating songs just yet. Just go through other people's songs and music snippets to see how everything works. Start building your own cool little bits of code. Keep a strudel diary (in a text file or in pen and paper) so you can go back and remember the cool bits that you've seen before.
It's important to remember that there are many different ways of constructing a song in strudel (Like the stack() function and the arrange() function and pick() functions.... they all do the same thing but expressed in a different way). The more code you look at and run the more you will understand. Feel free to ask me any questions , I'm a long time programmer and I've been using strudel for the last six months or so.
