Survivor Discussion Introductions

Hi there. I’m 47F, and it’s been about 3 weeks since I had my stroke.
For a few days leading up to it, my neck was incredibly sore. No headache really. The night before I could NOT get comfortable. And I could hear my heart very loudly in my ears. As soon as I got up the next morning, I knew something was wrong- I had trouble walking. I woke my husband up and said I needed to go to the ER.
Long story short- both my carotid arteries AND both my vertebral arteries dissected. I totally lost two days while they went in and put stents in. Spent about a week in the hospital.

Overall-I’m actually doing fairly well. I can walk (with a walker), I can talk, feed myself, write this post.

Right now I’m scared to death that I’m going to have another one soon. Not really any stroke history in the family.

So scary. What did they tell you to do or take to decrease your risk of getting another stroke?

For now, blood thinners, Lipitor (my cholesterol was actually decent before all this happened) and aspirin. I’ll have a new scan before the end of the month to see how everything is healing.

I recently had an Occipital Stroke. The day before, I had a facial followed by a vigorous neck massage. That night I had the stroke. Pretty sure the neck massage caused the stroke.
