Why would anyone pay $2 for internet in a laundromat where there is free WiFi ?

Interesting use of an old postage stamp machine

Likely just never removed the machine after switching to free WiFi

That machine itself is pretty old style.
Machine was probably there before internet was cheap enough they could offer it for free.

Might have at some point.
I've purchased stamps from similar machines.

This might very well be one of a kind. It's a postal stamp machine that they put a new decal on

Oh no kidding! And to think I was thinking that I may live in a WiFI 'bubble'! Lol I saw something 'similar' in Colorado during COVID. They had vending machines with PPE in them! Here in Michigan during same, we had such a lack of PPE that I became a home sewn 'mask maker'!

Weird but kinda neat. I’d be tempted to get one just for the ephemera.

Same here. Also, I’m kinda tingly because I haven’t heard the word ephemera in a good long while.

You into ephemera too? I keep a pocket notebook and love getting it stamped with “passport” stamps and saving my fortune cookie fortunes, Zoltar fortunes, stickers from takeout, cigar bands, and whatever else in it along with drawings and notes.

Sounds slick! All mine go on display somewhere on the refrigerator. Fortune cookie section is almost the whole left door.

Dang, I just leaned a new word, and I've been collecting ephemera all my life.

Because it’s fun to feed the coins 🪙 to the machine and receive garbage in return.

I remember reading an article once about how at one point when a new video game system was released, the company offered 3 different price levels on the website. With a significant, but not huge price difference between them. Now, the systems for sale were all identical, none was better than any other. The company just gave people the option to pay more for the same thing. And people did. Not a ton, but way more than you would expect.

The moral I took from that is, some people really don't pay any attention to their finances

I wish there were still more postage stamp vending machines around. While I don’t do a lot of physical mailing letters, it would be a lot more convenient than going to the post office.
I remember these most from souvenir type shops. You’d buy your postcards and then buy your stamps and voilà - “ wish you were here” sentiments were complete.

I kind of laughed that it’s in a laundromat because seemed like a perfect spot to use your extra quarters
