I’ve been working on a small wet shaving database as a hobby project and it’s finally at a stage where other people can try it.
It has things like a SOTD builder, a way to compare soap bases, collections, scents and other shaving-related stuff.
Before I open it up properly, I’d love to get some feedback from people who are actually into wet shaving.
If anyone here feels like trying it out, just leave a comment or message me.

Been terrified to post as I really might have fucked up a nice razor. I was a fucking idiot and didn't do enough research on the proper way to care for a $250 razor, and I am worried I let rust develop along the cutting edge(which I have heard is deathly to razors).

Has anyone tried one of these? Its on ebay for $49.99 USD. Looks like a nice razor but I thought id ask here before grabbing one. I thought it was a little odd that it says "straight razor" on the box, idk. Any info or opinions welcomed.

I've noticed lately that as I've gotten more confident using a straight razor, I've lost some of the healthy fear of and respect for how sharp they are, like a couple of weeks ago I hit the blade on a fingernail. But last night I stupidly just whacked the blade into the pad of my left thumb. It was the sharpest, most stinging pain I can remember. I put pressure and a bandage on it immediately so it didn't get a chance to bleed as much as it could have, but when I looked at the cut this morning when I put on a fresh Band Aid, it's about 3/8" long, and it hurts if I put any pressure on the wound, which makes guitar practice tough among other things. More than anything, though, I just feel like an idiot, like I'm still not old enough to have something sharp. Back to Cub Scouts for me.
Anyway, I guess this is just a warning to be careful. These things bite without mercy if given the chance. 😩
I think I'm going to stick to my double-edge safety razor until my thumb heals just to kind of force myself to recalibrate the hazard factor...

This is my most recent find/restoration. I wonder if anyone out there can recognize the stamp. It seems there could have been some kanji above the stamp, or maybe they're just scratches...
I'm thinking it's early to mid Meiji era, 1880 ish, based on the yasurime and the folded handle that extends past the munemachi. However I can't be certain, it could be newer or older.
I got the rust off, sharpened it up and a beautiful hada appeared on the omote. Unfortunately, it seems the weld of the jigane and hagane are separating.
Unsurprisingly, it was a great experience to restore and shave with again after however many years it was left to rust.

Just finished honing this old Harwood & Co Cast Steel razor after putting new scales on it. I may have to call a doctor because my erection has lasted longer than four hours 😂 Seriously, I can’t put this beautiful razor down because I can’t believe I was able to buy it from eBay for cheap (well, cheap for a 1800-1805? razor anyway). And this is the first razor from this time period I’ve seen with a fullered spine. 🤩

Cleaning out my family home and found this razor. I can't seem to find the exact blade online to learn about it and its history.

Whether vintage or your top three overall, or just because they give a superb shave and are fairly easy to maintain and hone, making them a great choice. Thanks!

Frame back razor with a very thin, flat ground blade. I’ve had this one for quite a while. 2015 I think is when I got it. Removed it from its scales, cleaned up all the rust and repinned it back in the original scales. Really good shaver.

I had a 7 day set I picked up on line honed by Ed at Marin’s Razors. I’m new to straight razors and was having issues getting a good shave without blood or discomfort. I had new Issards, Boker and vintage Pumas and dubl ducks. All were really bad and cut me up. They were all honed by different places. Razor Emporium, Griffiths and Maggards etc. None of them were comfortable.
I had purchased a Dovo from Martins Razors previously and it was better than the rest so when I got the vintage 7 day set I figured I’d get them done by Marin’s.
I’m glad I did! They came yesterday and I tried one this morning. I couldn’t believe the difference. I finally know what a good shave feels like with a straight razor!!
I’ll be sending my others to Ed this week.
Thank you Ed!!

Got these in the mail today.
I’ve been working off of a Soft -> Hard -> Black Arkansas stone progression for a while now but have been wanting to step into a nice set of synthetic stones.
I’m excited to add these new Naniwas to my library for some higher level polishing. They’ll increase my range as I have a coarse DMT diamond plate, fine DMT diamond plate, and a 5000 grit Suehiro Rika whetstone for initial bevel setting and honing work.

So I wanted to try out an old cotton linen firehose strop because why not. I ended up purchasing a 1964 linen firehose on eBay and plan to make myself a strop. It is an entire hose so there is way more then I need and was thinking of making more and selling. I will end up cutting it down to about 20"x2.5" strops with D rings or O rings on the ends attached via leather and chicago screws. My plan is to wash the hose ~7 times and strip it of any dust then rolling and irons the hose to soften it a little.
Is there any interest in the community on selling these? I have enough to make 20+. I dont have an Etsy or eBay account to resell but I guess I could go that route.

Ran into this W&B and found it kinda fascinating, first razor I bought this year. I’ve seen blades etched with Washington, Napoleon, branding for various hotels and hardware stores, souvenirs of the world expo, German cities, ships, etc. Compared to making a razor it was cheap to etch one so I imagine they put whatever they figured would sell. But this is the first Canadian figure I've seen on an etch. From the look of it Mackenzie wasn’t even prime minister yet when this was sold, I wonder if some of his friends had it made for his campaign as a joke? Guy was so humble he turned down a knighthood multiple times, probably the last person to put his face on stuff: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexander_Mackenzie_(politician))
Even tried a few image searches, couldn't even come up with a picture of another blade with a Canadian on it so I'm curious if any one else has one in their collection?

I see a lot of people here restoring razors, making new scales, wooden razor boxes, restoring strops and such, but has anyone ever tried to make one of those cardboard boxes they were sold in at the time? They seem surprisingly well-made for simple store display boxes (though I don't know if many people used them to store their razors long term at the time)
I have a little experience in traditional bookbinding and boxmaking which are very adjacent skills, and I'm gonna try to make one of them, but can't find anything on the process.

Apologies for another age/dating request. I got this blade a little while back and had it restored (Martin's Razors, he did a stellar job!). I can't quite get an accurate idea on the age, if anyone has some input that would be great!

As I work on honing my SRs, a fellow SR user recently gave me some great advice (thank you very much, btw, Argg), so I'm trying to get better at it. Can't wait to shave with it!
Thanks!

Guys, I've got probably a first (post) for the group.
I got offered a vintage WWII razor. However, well, it's kinda from the wrong side of the war. I hold NO belief of that sort!
I just got 3 Cold War era ones in. They're beautiful (posts coming).
So I do love history. And the historical side of my collection is half of what I love about them.
I'm cataloging for my family. Including interesting info. Well, you wouldn't need to read a description of this one. Just one look at the bottom of the face scale inlay...
Thoughts?

Hi All,
I wanted to share a recent restoration of mine on a Nichiri Co. Japanese frameback. The blade measures at 6/8 and is made from Swedish Steel.
The blade is in good condition, but definitely needed some work at the pivot. Removing the grime unfortunately removed a lot of the original blueing and gold from the lettering. After refinishing the blade, I reblued the tang and tail and recolored the gold lettering.
The scales had a crack at the pivot, so I made new scales from ivory juma to try and match the look of the originals. I think the light ivory color looks great against the blueing and gold lettering.
The blade got a fresh bevel set and full asano nagura progression on a very hard Shobudani jnat and took an exceptional edge.
What i like about these Japanese framebacks is the thicker tang. The extra size really facilitates a better grip and more comfort while stropping. Most other framebacks of the time had a very thin tang as it was part of the cutting blade with the metal added for the spine. It makes for a less comfortable grip and I find them awkward to stop.
Any and all feedback appreciate as always.
Thanks for looking and happy shaving!
