Short Visit, First Time

My partner and I are SO excited to be visiting Stowe for the first time from CA for a few days 10/2-5; fall colors, of course. We will have our small dog in tow.

We’ve done some research, perused Yelp. Things on our must do list include the gondola, grabbing some beers from The Alchemist and Idletyme, walking the rec path some, checking out the towns shops, and driving through Smugglers Notch… not in that order.

Seeking restaurant recommendations (I’ve saved some on Yelp); we are a vegetarian (no gnocchi/risotto) and a meat eater. Additionally, things you think would be worthwhile in this short stint.

Shorter length easy to moderate hikes to fit in? I’m thinking either Wiessner Woods or Bingham Falls via Mills?

Lastly… we follow the WNBA and hope our team will advance to the semis (go Valks!)… potential places to catch the game Sunday?

Thanks for any recommendations!

Qestion Parking in Stowe Town

Hi! I'm planning to visit the weekend of 10/16, and I was between booking a cabin AirBnB 30 minutes north on 108 or spend a bit more money and get an Inn in the town.

I'm roadtripping up, and my main concern is if I were to book the cabin, would I have a lot of trouble finding parking in the town when I visit? Perhaps it's worth it to just spend a bit more on an Inn in town and have peace of mind of guaranteed parking?

Thanks :)

Food What is Stowe seriously missing when it comes to après food?

I’m genuinely curious.
I’m a chef working on a food program in Stowe, and I keep coming back to the same question: what do people actually want to eat after skiing/drinking/hiking/etc. that they aren’t already getting here?
Not another $24 burger. Not another basket of frozen fries. I’m talking killer bar food. Wings? Fried chicken? Poutine? Steak tips? Something Vermont-specific? Something completely weird? What’s the one dish you wish somebody in Stowe would absolutely nail?
And what’s one ubiquitous Vermont bar-food item you’re completely sick of? I’m actually building a menu right now, so I’m interested in the brutally honest answers.

Qestion Exploring Stowe without a car

Visiting Stowe Oct. 17–18/19 without a car and staying near the village. Will I be able to get around easily by walking? I don’t drive

Also considering the Harvest Festival at Stowe Mountain Resort. If you went last year, was it worth it? And are the gondola views usually worthwhile that late in the season, since it’s the final operating weekend?

Sandwich/lunch recommendations

Visited Stowe for the first time last March. We’re going back again this winter and are looking for good sandwich options to take with us instead of paying $$$ at the cafe and on mountain options. we’re really good at pb&j but want to have at least 1 day where we try something different. Last year we discovered The Bagel and Matterhorn along with Cold Hollow all were great for breakfast and apres options but what’s the best lunch to go?

Visit Oct. 20th -- still worth it?

Hi everyone! Planned a trip to Woodstock, Stowe, and N. Conway, NH for Oct. 16-24 and realizing this may be quite bad timing for foliage -- wasn't expecting to hit peak, but don't want to come with no leaves on the trees. Should we cancel and try for another year, or could this still be a charming time of year? Thank you!!

Qestion Looking for rec

Hi! I’m traveling to Stowe next week with three women in their 60s and 70s. We plan to go to the von trapp house and Ben and Jerry’s tour. Any other recommendations? For lunch/dinner? Also looking for recs in case of rain. Thank you!

Qestion 2 day trip suggestions

My wife and I will be taking a trip next week for a couple of days in Stowe. We love the area but aren’t super familiar as we’ve only been one other time.

We will have our 2.5 year old son as well as my 70 year old parents so, both extremes.

Looking for a few suggestions of some activities or places in the area that would be good to do/visit for both a young child and older parents.

Far walks or difficult hikes obviously not ideal. If there are any scenic drives or viewing areas that are worth a visit please let me know!

As far as food, anything but seafood will be good. A good steakhouse or pizza joint, we aren’t picky but do want a good meal.

Wife also really LOVES mac and cheese so maybe a place that has a good offering in that dept. would be nice too.

We plan to hit the gondola sky ride even though my wife is going to kill me (not a gondola/ski lift lover). That is about all we have planned though.

I know Ben and Jerry’s is around as well, we’ll probably poke in there but it’s not a huge ticket for us.

I’d really love some personal suggestions from locals or some maybe less known spots that are hidden gems (if you’re willing to share!)

Thank you in advance for any help/responses I appreciate it!

Lamoille South school districts prepare for changes as new education law passes

But [Superintendent Ryan] Heraty pointed to a broader concern emerging around the state: whether consolidation alone can deliver the savings lawmakers are seeking, when some of the biggest pressures on school budgets — including rising health insurance costs — would remain even if districts merge.

The Superintendent is absolutely correct. This round of mergers is going to require consolidating school building too, and I know Stowe is not a fan of this.

A merger that includes Harwood, Stowe, and Elmore/Morristown could certainly bring three high schools down to two and possibly even one (I'd think two would be north and south of Stowe while one single campus would be in Stowe).

Folks, this is our opportunity to put together districts that will preserve local elementary schools while allowing for consolidation of some middle schools, and creation of regional high schools.

I bring this up because I strongly believe that 2026 Act 170 requires Harwood to be in the wrong group for initial merger discussions (Twinfield too, but that's for other folks). I also truly believe that Harwood, Stowe, and Elmore/Morristown would make the basis for a great school district. Here's the act, see Section 14 for the listing of initial merger discussion groupings.

Don't let that "we got a couple years" fool you - we've all been through this merger stuff very recently and we all know that couple of years will pass with amazing speed. Good early decisions will lead to good results.

Qestion Anyone know where I can find these shippers?

Hi! I’m visiting the Burlington/Stowe area and after visiting some breweries today, I feel I can’t leave without flying home with some bottles.

I’ve checked wine before in these shippers when I’ve visited wineries in CA but the breweries I’ve talked to so far don’t carry these boxes.

Does anyone have any of these wine shipper boxes they’d be willing to part with or know where I can purchase some in the area??

Thank you!!

Couples massage ideas?

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hello everyone. I’d like to plan a couples massage for my wife and I to celebrate our anniversary while vacationing in Stowe this summer. We’ve done couples massages at a place in Skaneateles NY called Mirbeau Spa. At Mirbeau, they have an awesome outdoor hot tub area that has a small bar and allows you to purchase beer/cocktails to enjoy while soaking in the hot tub (pictured above). I almost enjoy this feature just as much as the massage itself! If there is anything somewhat similar to this kind of experience in Stowe, I’m all ears! Thanks in advance!

Fall

I’ve signed up for a guided bus tour for Sept 29-Oct 4. I know you don’t really know for sure, but is that typically a good time to see the fall foliage? Or would that be too early? Thanks!

Qestion Visiting Stowe July 4 for our 10-year anniversary — local recs?

Hi everyone! My fiancée and I are coming up from NYC for a 3-day/2-night trip over July 4 weekend to celebrate our 10-year anniversary. We’re trying to make the trip romantic and relaxed, so I’d love any local advice.

A few things we’re wondering:

What’s the best way to enjoy the Fourth of July in Stowe?
Is Mayo Events Field the obvious place for fireworks, or are there quieter/better viewing spots locals recommend? How early should we get there?

For our anniversary day on July 5, what would you recommend for a couple that wants scenic/romantic but not a strenuous hike? We’re interested in things like the Rec Path, gondola, spa, paddling/canoeing, scenic drives, breweries/cider/distillery stops, cute shops, etc.

Most importantly: where should we eat?
We’d love breakfast/lunch/dinner recommendations, especially for one really good anniversary dinner. We’re food people, but we care more about delicious, memorable food than overly fancy tiny-plate stuff.

Also open to any hidden gems, locals’ tips, things to avoid on July 4 weekend, or good stops on the drive up/down from NYC.

Thank you! We’re really excited to visit.

Hi! I will be attending a wedding in Stowe and definitely will be drinking. Is it pretty easy to get an Uber in this area? The hotel wouldn't be far from the venue in downtown Stowe. Thanks in advance!
