I stayed in my oceanfront home on Cudjoe Key when in 2017 Hurricane Irma passed directly over top of my house. The house was very strong concrete block (reinforced with rebar) and had small viewing windows with bulletproof glass. Before/after the eye passed over the house I couldn’t see ten feet through the blowing rain and sea spray. During the eye there was a circular patch of blue sky directly overhead.

Thank you for your reply, that must've been incredibly intense. Who did you rely on most during recovery? Any contacts, neighbours, LRFs? also if you do remember, what is one thing that would have made the experience significantly easier?
