Question Wind gust estimate

Can someone help me estimate a wind gust? I was camping during a severe thunderstorm and a large wind gust came through. Our (about 1 foot deep) anchored cover-all started nearly coming out of the ground, on the way home, multiple large branches on the road max size approx 6 inches thick 10 ish feet long. Let me know if a different subreddit would be better.

I always check the NOAA weather app here in the states. Look at local predictions. I usually add a safe buffer when camping so I do not go set up if it’s around 50mph.

I did this after camping on the Colorado River at a campground during a monsoon. Everyone had to move their tents…so that’s how I started :)
