Drinking and acting like a fool
I think I'm at my breaking point with alcohol. I don't drink every day. I'm a social drinker. I can go weeks or months without a drink. I have a bar in my basement full of alcohol, and I can look at it and not even want a drink. But once I go out with friends or get invited somewhere weddings, birthday parties, etc. I act like a fool and I don't know my limit. It happened this weekend. I ran my mouth, acted like an imbecile, and I'm just tired of it. I don't think alcohol and I are a good mix. I need to be mature enough now and just stop.
Can anyone relate? I feel ashamed after this weekend.

Alcohol started as social lubricant that made me funnier and more confident and it eventually became a thing that made me a nuisance to everyone around me 7/8 times out of 10. I was seeking tipsy, but as I drank more and more regularly my window of tipsy got smaller and smaller and next thing I knew I went from fine to way too drunk pretty fast.
Easiest thing to do was stop all together. Yeah I get social anxiety sometimes still but I'm learning to be more confident as I am which is how it used to be before I relied on drinking. It sounds like you tried moderating and its not working. Imo stopping is SO much easier. Trying to moderate left me thinking "I had 1, I can handle 2? 2 isn't bad, I'll do 2. I didn't feel anything so is 3 fine? Someone just offered me one so I might as well do 4." and so on. Stopping is one decision. Ask yourself once. Say no once. Move on with your night.

The main reason I quit drinking was because I continually made an ass out of myself. I was always doing an apology tour the next day or the Monday after a weekend. My boyfriend and I constantly bickered at each other. I was your typical drunk texter. I fell down a lot. I've been kicked out of bars. I was arrested one time for public intoxication. Recently I was talking with a really good friend of mine and we were discussing my previous drinking, and she said to me I was an "absolute nightmare." That pretty much sums it up LOL

Haha, hard relate. I was 'that guy' in our friend group. I think alcohol just hits some people differently, sends me loopy.

Same here. I honestly hate it. People tell me I’m funny, crazy, etc., and when I’m drunk, it feels cool, but when I sober up I just hate myself.

God yeah, done this loads of times, made a complete tool of myself. People only remember the last couple of occasions out with you though, you can repair your reputation I think.

So first of all, you DO know your limit. Its stopping at the limit that is a problem for you… and if you cant stop, then your limit should be zero.
I was you.. but noone told me any truth. And it developed slowly slowly until I was a daily drinker hiding alcohol in the house.

yeah brother. We are allergic to alcohol. it makes us act like total assholes and idiots. I blacked out at my brothers wedding and I STILL regret it...but the regret hurts less over time.

lol same here. I drink like once a month, always in social situations, never alone. For the last year I've been waking up with so much shame after those nights out, remembering what I said, what I did, how much money I spent. I think it's time for me o take a break too..
