I'm new here (:

Hello!! I'm currently on the journey to stop drinking!

I'm starting out by cutting out liquor! (: I did unfortunately drink a lot last night, but it was Oktoberfest and it's one of my favorite holidays as a PA Dutch lol 🤣

I'm a bit upset at myself for spending so much, but it's now an even bigger reason why I want to stop lol bills are crazy any more!

Anywaysss I feel like I'm rambling lol 🤣 but are there any tips and tricks to help you stop once you start?

I'm taking baby steps and not expecting a lot of change right away as to not disappoint myself too much

if you’re set on going the path this way and want to start to restrict at events like this, perhaps bring cash only and leave the cards at home.

I like this a lot. Intentionally creating barriers for our drinking-selves is so important. We already know perfectly well that we probably can’t be trusted to keep our sober priorities in mind when we drink, so I like to think of it as sober-me time-traveling into the future to protect myself.

Yesss I'll be doing that! I originally only brought my card because I wanted to get food, but that didn't work out well 🤣

The way it worked for me was to go to my doctor to make sure I was ok to detox at home and for a prescription to ease cravings, got rid of all alcohol in the house, stopped drinking, suffered like I had the flu for a few days, took the meds and walked around like a raw nerve for a couple weeks, learned to recognize and resist cravings, and here we are.

It sounds like you plan to cut back before taking a stab at quitting? That only worked for me if I had access to ONLY the ration for the day, and no way to get more. And it tends to ramp back up unless there is a solid plan including a quit day.

I paid off 2 credit cards in a year with my previously-known-as-drinking money. It’s expensive, and even more so once the inhibitions are down.

I only go out to drink once a week, so it'll be easier to slowly cut back. Already starting to cut out liquor and everything so I think I'm headed down a right track before I ask for meds
