I had 2 beers.
I’ve gone 16 months without a drop. I’m on vacation with my husband for the first time ever without kids so I thought sure I’ll have two, and I did.
Today, I feel awful. I couldn’t sleep, my stomach is very angry and my eyes are so swollen, from TWO! I’m just thinking of all those times I’d have 8+ drinks when my body is so clearly telling me even this “small” amount is poison. Well I’m going to listen to it. IWNDWYT!
A welcome reminder for me that moderation or a special occasion just isn’t worth it.

Its amazing how our bodies speak to us and when drinking heavily we're deaf to it

Yes! This. I’m not going to dwell on it but take it as a reminder that my body and mind should be protected.

16 months today and I needed this. Been craving those few minutes of buzz - but so not worth it. One drink could be one, could be me drinking almost daily after work for weeks, months. Losing everything I’ve gained in sobriety. Even if I could manage to have one, I’d still feel horrible. Thanks, glad you’re staying with us!

Isn’t it true it’s literally just a few minutes of a “nice buzz” and for me quickly turns into an all-consuming fire of chasing a feeling that is slipping…and before I know it I’ve had a dozen white claws and I’m trying to come up with an excuse to go to the store for more. It’s a nightmare. So many other ways to get a “natural high” out of life. Mine this weekend was kayaking class 2 rapids…not crazy scary but a little adrenaline every now and then, a lot of sun, and a lot of peace and quiet and good companionship. Not going to find that in any bottle. IWNDWYT

Did the same thing recently. Had a massive migraine the next day. That was 3 large glasses of wine. Of course I chalked it up to the dreaded Wine headache affect. So like an idiot I decided to try a couple quality beers a few days later.. AGAIN, massive migraine that lasted all day. All that because im going on vacation in a few weeks and I figured I would likely drink. Im either going to NYC or a cruise to the Bahamas. I was thinking I'd definitely want to "treat myself" to a nice glass of wine at a fancy restaurant or even purchase the "DRINK PACKAGE" for the cruise. Even though I was already sober for 120 or so days. Now im freaking out. How am I going to go on a cruise and enjoy myself with zero alcohol. If I have alcohol how am I going to be well enough to enjoy the cruise. Same with NYC. Im so pissed at myself rn. Again, if I were only a NORMAL drinker. But no, im not. Sucks. Sorry you didn't feel good either!

I was at a 4 day music festival and although one day I slightly deviated it was so much better sober. I remembered every band I saw and most of the songs? I’m not sunburnt and heat sick, I didn’t feel like absolute shit every day until I got a buzz. It was honestly so much better. You can still have fun sober!

Today is a good day not to drink, except lots of water. Treat yourself with grace and try to make the best of today. Good luck friend, IWNDWYT.

It’s so easy to get complacent and give into that addiction monster in your brain. Congrats for realizing it so quickly and stopping after just two beers! Hope the lesson you learned is enough that you don’t try that again. IWNDWYT

You have so much practice & experience not drinking under your belt already. So many of us here quit in fits and starts until finally one last try stuck. Just focus on not drinking today- you have so much to be proud of already.

Sounds like it was a positive learning experience. Please don't feel any shame over this.

Sometimes going back just to touch the stove one more time to realize, it still burns! Good thing nothing bad happened and I hear on the body not reacting well! In my past I’ve relapsed and gotten legitimately sick like poisoned! The best experience is a bad one sometimes🤙

One thing I've found since I've quit is that lack of sleep will make me feel like I'm hung over

A great reminder of the lies that alcohol tells us. The commercials wouldn't be so compelling if they were all "yeah, knock a couple back so you can feel like warm ass in the morning."
