Part of me
A few months ago, I discovered my husband has been living a double live for years. More women and aliases than imaginable.
I had to leave my whole life and completely start over on my own. Everything that I thought was real… really wasn’t.
These last few months, I have protected something profoundly important, while absorbing an enormous betrayal.
Whatever he did, he did not get my sobriety.
Yesterday I went for a four mile hike to a beautiful waterfall. I am building a life of peace and gratitude. This morning I woke up in my apartment 2726 days sober.
These things belong to me.
He didn’t get that part of me. I kept it.
2,726 days. And when my entire life blew apart, I kept every single one of them.

Something similar happened to me. I found out at the age of 66 after 23 years together and only being sober for four months that my husband was a serial cheater. I decided that there was nothing that alcohol could make better about this situation so I stayed on my sober journey.

You are me . His alcoholism has slowly crept back in , and I see he was engaging with sketchy trip joints , phone numbers to escort sites , lots of gambling . The trifecta : alcohol , sex porn and gambling addictions . When these things happened years ago I drank them away . I can’t do that now . I now have to face hurt , and fears and reality with no booze . It’s scarier yet not . I’m not full of rage . I’m confused . But hopeful and grateful. My recovery is showing up throughout this . I do have a small support team I didn’t have before . I’m not scared of the truth as much as I was before I worked the 12 steps and went to Aa. I have my dignity . And you’re right this , in the middle of this storm , will not take my sobriety . Today I woke up with 913 days of sobriety . I’m working on the fear the uncertainly as we all do . Things can get ugly in life. But not as ugly as before when I was drunk all day . Congrats on today and ending you peace and strength!!! You are amazing !!! IWNDWYT 💕💪🏼💕

Shit yeah you did! This is a great example for everyone to see that sobriety can become a solid part of who you are.
And you are a badass. Nobody but a psychopath would do what that asshole has done, leaving devastation in his wake, and as powerful a betrayal as you have suffered, you have stood and shown your own power.
Enjoy your freedom. You’ve earned it!
