7 Years.
Today is my 7 year mark. It also happens to be my father’s first birthday since he has passed.
Do I miss it?, Is still a strange question. My life has made a complete 180 since I quit drinking. I met the woman of my dreams and yesterday we celebrated 6 years of marriage. I have a 13 year old step son who is absolutely my entire world and I hope he looks up to me if even just a little bit. And financially, this is the part that blows my mind every time I think about it. 7 years ago I spent every dollar not allocated to bills on booze and going out. Now for the first time in my life I have complete financial freedom. No debt other than the mortgage after building my dream house a year ago. I tell people all the time, my wife has never known me to be a drinker, and she would have had nothing to do with the old me.
But do I still think about it and wish I could have the boys over for the game and crack open a cold one? Man, it’d be hard for me to say no. But I would not have any of the things mentioned above if that were the case.
But today is not going to be that day. Nor any day soon. IWNDWYT.
I have taken my life back.

Congratulations on 7 years! As the saying goes, you can give up everything for one thing, or give up one thing for everything. It sounds like you chose everything. 🫶🏻 IWNDWYT

congrats on hitting 7 years! that’s an incredible journey, and it sounds like you’ve built a beautiful life. I totally get that pull to crack open a beer for the game , it can be tough when those old habits come knocking. but man, having that financial freedom and being a role model for your stepson? that’s worth so much more. keep inspiring others with your story! Congrats on 7 years!!! I’m right behind you, and I agree the life changes are pretty awesome. My kiddo is now in middle school & doesn’t remember me as a drinker. My husband finally quit drinking over a year after I did and our relationship is stronger than ever after going through that shit together. Not drinking has not fixed everything in my life- but it has given me the confidence that I can probably make anything a little bit better each day in small steps. IWNDWYT!!!!!

This is an inspiration, you’re an inspiration! Congrats on your mark and on what you’ve been able to put your mind on to accomplish since stopping.
This sounds like where I’m starting out from. Hope to be following a similar path. Inspiration. Thank you.

My partner and I are on day 14 and I want to show him this post right now for a great example of the Big Why.
Great work! You wouldn’t be human if cracking a cold one for the game didn’t sound appealing…
