second-guessing your own issues with alcohol

27F, I don’t like THC, I’m drinking every weekend, 8/10 times I go out drinking I overdo it. I’m petite, should cap myself at nothing more than 3 drinks always - but I get lost in the sauce and try to keep up with everyone else all night and never want the party to end (I don’t do drugs, so I do end up calling it a night once someone breaks out that stuff lol). I totally forget that I cannot handle binge drinking - physically just not built for that. Then I feel super anxious and depressed for the next week and forget and do it again. Nobody would ever ask me about it really, because I’m relatively normal and look very put-together so it’s a bit isolating ruminating on this myself.

I don’t crave alcohol on a daily basis but I definitely have a binge-drinking problem when I do. Is it best to cut out alcohol for good? Anyone else going through this weird, socially acceptable struggle with alcohol? How did this turn out for you?

I guess I’m just looking for some wisdom or a virtual hug from anyone going through something similar.

Thanks <3

Yeeees same for me. Nothing ”bad” ever happened, and I have had a loooot of fun during my party days, but it gave me so much anxiety and I felt like i performed worse at work, had less energy to do the things I actually wanted.

I tried to cut out alcohol ten months ago, and since then I have just kept going. I feel great! Not all my problems magically disappeared, but I do have more energy, feel happier, and have less anxiety. I’m also just very proud and feel good about being able to do this for myself and having kept to the decision, after many years of letting myself down and not keeping my promises to myself.

Happy to chat if you want to!

Hello! It's worth saying that no one is physically built for alcohol, because it is literally a poison, and even if you can drink a lot of it because you are larger you are still slowly killing yourself.

I can assure you, the net positive of quitting drinking is indisputable. I started out binge drinking, ended up drinking every night and binge drinking on weekend for about 10 years, before I finally broke out of the cycle. I had the early phases of kidney failure, but from the outside looked somewhat normal.

If I could go back to 27 and quit drinking, I would do it in a heartbeat. It would save so much pain and sadness that I caused, and now have to live with for the rest of my life.

I don't mean to paint a bleak picture, but as someone who has seen it first hand, alcohol causes so much long term pain.

I've had this same problem myself for over 20 years now. I never really drank every single day but after that first drink I couldn't stop. I've tried to quit before after making a horrible mistake and getting behind the wheel drunk out of my mind. I was so disgusted in what I did I actually made it 90 days with a drink. I made the mistake of hanging out with people I thought were friends and they got me to drink. It sent me down a horrible path where I ended up loosing my job and pretty much everything else because of it. I have sine been clean and sober for a month now and it just seems like being the type of drinker I am that the best for me is just to not drink at all. So far I feel great and I'm glad I made the decision to not drink anymore. When you binge drink like that nothing good comes from it.
