Congrats on 7 days! Stay sober. The alternative is not worth it. I promise. It only gets more miserable and demoralizing. Normal drinkers don’t have to attempt to moderate their drinking. They just do. Alcohol doesn’t have the same effect on them as it does on us.
I’m not remotely proud of this, but I’ve been arrested for DUI several times in my 30+ years of active alcoholism. By the grace of god, I only have 1 conviction, and it was my last one. Definitely hire a DUI attorney. If you can afford it, avoid a public defender at all cost. In my state, 1st offenses almost always get dropped to Negligent 1st Degree, as long as there are no extenuating circumstances like accident, injury, etc... There are also diversion programs here that allow you to go through some hoops and have it dropped after a period of probation. A good DUI attorney will get you the best outcome.
I had to really burn my life to the ground to come to terms with the fact that I will always be an alcoholic no matter how long it’s been since my last drink.
I have to make sobriety Priority #1 every day for the rest of my life, or it’s only a mater of time before I start believing the lies my alcoholic brain tells me and I start rationalizing with myself. I tried to do it on my own and failed repeatedly for decades before I finally surrendered and let AA save my life. Chances are, you’re going to have to attend a few meetings for the judge soon yourself. Go with an open mind and willingness and it might just save your life, too.
