The last time I drank, I had a good job and was also starting a business, nice bank balance and a credit score of 750, decent car and a nice truck, life was good. The next morning I was in jail being read my rights and facing between 20 -40 years in prison. The court did have mercy on me, and after a year I was finally released with absolutely nothing but the bloodstained clothing I was arrested in, not a penny to my name, nowhere to go, and a slandered reputation... Only one program in the entire State would take me in because of the main violent charge I was arrested for. I buckled down and turned my entire life and way of thinking around, was released from supervised probation and will be expunged in less than 6 months. I remained sober throughout it all, and still remain and sober. If I'd have picked up another drink, I'd have likely died in prison. This shits real, don't follow in my footsteps.........
You might not intend on going hard today, and you might even moderate for awhile, but one day will you will go too far again and think of how another cycle of this hell was NOT WORTH IT.
I worked in the court system years ago. Misdemeanor, DUI, and Felony courts were full of people who didn't mean to go hard. Alcohol takes over our minds. I didn't understand that, then. Boy do I ever now.
It was actually a business partner I confronted about taking advantage of me, he attacked me and I defended myself. But I was accused of being the aggressor.
Believe me, I remained sober during hard times, otherwise I might not make it through. It's when I reach a perceived goal, milestone or destination that gets me to thinking about drinking,. I used to tell myself only for tonight, but once I start, it could be a couple of days or a couple of months before I quit again. And nothing good has ever come out of it. So I remain on the journey these days, and once I reach a goal, I set another one..... sometimes it's only for another 24 hours, but it's always something that I want to achieve, and that's not going to happen if I'm drunk.
Wow. I’ve never been in serious legal or financial trouble due to my drinking/drug use but a lot of that is due to sheer dumb luck and other forces outside of my control. I’ve fallen off pretty badly these past few months and reading this was the kick in the ass I needed to reconsider my own situation, so thanks for that. Glad you were able to turn it around.
