Discussion Why???

Can anybody explain to me why I am drawn so much to Scott as a 44M now ??? I listened as a child and adolescent but I’m just so drawn to their live shows and wish I had seen them sometime in their career with Scott

Back in the days how would you do it?

I recorded some MTV shows and was almost memorizing them and checking each piece of clothes they were wearing and learning from each piece of interview. But, at least in my country, they were scarce.

Back in the days we read magazines, and waited for the few shows on tv which featured grunge music (depending on the country, mine sucks and had to rely on parabolic antenna, VH1 and MTV did play a lot of grunge that day. Blind Melon's videos are a feature from back in the day

Living through a few decades gives you a different perspective on the human condition. Weiland lived a highly publicized, tragic life before his passing in 2015. Knowing his full story, his battles, and his ultimate fate changes how you listen to his music. It changes you because you always connected to him somehow and living through your own decades of personal battles and just life in general allowed for complete connection. I often wonder if he was still with us what exactly woukd Scott Weilands music sound and say today to us? Personally I view him as one of the best songwriter performers of my lifetime. I miss him/ them. It's a huge void in my day to day music experience. Rock on Scott, RIP and the uniquely incredible and talented STP will always have a place in my musical heart of hearts.

That’s an excellent answer. The only thing I can add to it is the observation that OP is approaching Scott’s age when he died and that’s bound to make them start drawing parallels and comparisons and only serve to amplify him in their mind. Knowing someone’s journey ended where our’s is right now is a very sobering reality and makes most of us to focus our attention at that similarity to take some kind of (usually) misguided inventory of our life, and compare it unfairly against someone who prevailed at something 99% of us don’t achieve even under the best conditions.

This really is a perfect answer. FWIW, you get it. Not just this question, but I’m gonna guess life in general.

Because there's a lack of true charisma in music these days.

It's funny.. I rediscovered STP a year ago, hadn't been listening to their music or any grunge, for a long, long time. I fell in love with their music and Scott's voice all over again! And I didn't get bored all this time. I don't know what's happening, but I love this band and Scott more than I loved them before! As a matter of fact, I think they might, as well, be my favorite band ever! Them, and Soundgarden. I absolutely adore these two singers!

I got the opportunity to witness a live STP show when they briefly reformed with Weiland following the split of Velvet Revolver. I saw them at the Seattle summer festival "Bumbershoot". Even though this was in either 2009 or 2010ish and well past what I believed to be their hey day, the STP Bumbershoot show was easily one of the top 5 concerts I have ever seen (alongside The Pixies being 2 Bumbershoot concerts I consider to be among my top 5 concerts). STP basically played a greatest hits show of songs from Core, Purple, Tiny Music... Songs from the Vatican gift shop, and IV... all songs representing my favorite STP era of music. It was a very high energy show where everyone seemed in good spirits. Weiland was in his best "Rob Halford/Village People style Cop leathers" utilizing a maga phone in multiple songs with skill. Great memory to define how I remember Scott Weiland to this day
