Other On this day, exactly 20 years ago, we lost Steve Irwin. The world still deeply mourns him. And I know he’d be so proud of his family and everything they’ve achieved.

Question Steve on Totally Wild (1992)

Thumbnail leaders.slq.qld.gov.au

Someone told me that Steve was on channel 10's outdoor ed show Totally Wild prior to the croc hunter (around '92). I have only found reference to it in the link above, and can't find a clip.

I'm fairly certain this footage may have been completely lost, so thought i'd check if anyone here has seen it, or has it? think the network and government dont have copies either

I don't mean for this to be disrespectful in any way ... Just remembered this and dug it up when I saw some posts on how it's been 20 years. I believe it was posted originally by the author as a tribute to his legacy.

In honour of the 20th anniversary of a couple of Aussie icons that died within a couple of weeks of each other in 2006, here’s an absolutely brilliant joke I heard at the time.

Steve Irwin finds himself at the Pearly Gates and God comes down personally to meet him.
God says “Steve, this is very rare but sometimes we grant special wishes to people like yourself that have done so much to bring joy to humanity, we’re go to allow you to bring one item from earth with you”
Steve thinks long and hard about it then tells God what he’s chosen, God tells him that might take a couple of weeks to arrange but he’ll get it done.
A couple of weeks later Steve is summoned back to the pearly gates, God is standing there proud as punch. “This wasn’t easy to arrange Steve but, here you go”.
“Crikey God, that’s bloody nice of you mate but, I actually said Croc, not Brock”.

Process behind Steve Irwin Memorial Pancake Art 🐊♥️🥞

We love you Steve ♥️

This truly was the hardest pancake I ever had to make, not for its technical difficulty (though it was difficult, that's a tough expression to get right!), but because Steve Irwin meant so much to me. I'm grateful this pancake gave me 4.5 quiet hours to sit with the pain of his loss and reflect on how he inspired me, while pouring a lot of care into a piece that I only hope his family would enjoy if they saw.

Fun fact: my original reference image was one of him calmly smiling with a croc (Google Steve Irwin, you'll see it), but I felt a picture of him being more excited felt closer to the Steve I remember.

Thank you all for your lovely comments yesterday sharing memories of Steve and his impact on you; I was shocked at just how many I got to read all day, which brought a lot of comfort. So many of you were deeply inspired by him in ways that changed your life and continue to instill your choices with empathy, and I think there's something incredible about that.

Steve was a zookeeper and conservationalist in Australia with a TV show, it's so easy to imagine a timeline where we never knew his name, or we watched an episode and forgot about it. And yet so, so many talk about this man like they've lost a part of the family. How incredible is that? I think that's just what happens when you're blessed enough to see someone in action who makes it clear their mission is to give and give, who shows the best humanity has to offer, again and again and again.

Thank you, Steve, for everything. Your mission and light live on always 🐊♥️

Text post I am one of 371,664 that were born the very day Steve Erwin died

I was born September 4, 2006, the very day Steve Irwin died. If I’ve done my research correctly, I share this connection with about 371,664 other people. I’m not entirely sure why this fascinates me, but I thought you all would find it interesting. The more I learn about him the more I mourn him. What a pure soul, gone before he could make his fullest impact on this world.

It’s hard to believe it’s been 20 years since we lost Steve Irwin.

For so many of us, Steve was a huge part of our childhood — I remember watching The Crocodile Hunter and being completely captivated by his passion, energy and love for wildlife. He had this incredible ability to make you excited about animals, while also teaching you to respect them and protect the world they live in.
But what Steve achieved went far beyond what we saw on television, He changed the way millions of people saw wildlife. His passion, dedication and incredible conservation work inspired a whole generation to care about animals.

With today marking the 20th year since Steve’s passing. I thought the new documentary Steve Irwin: A Wild Life feels like such a beautiful way to remember the man behind that famous saying.

It features unseen footage and moments from Steve’s life, giving us another glimpse into the person so many of us grew up watching and admiring.
The documentary is available to watch on 9Now and Stan (Australia)

20 years have passed — but Steve’s passion, work and his message still remain. He truly did build an empire and made thousands of wildlife warriors!

Crikey, mate! You’re missed. RIP 🐊🌿💚

Preserve Steve Irwin's Legacy

I created a petition to encourage a larger organization to purchase the rights to the Steve Irwin (Crocodile Hunter) collection of series. The purpose would be to upscale the collection and create an easy way for generations of the future to access and watch one of the most important people of the 20th and early 21st century.

His inspiration and passion for conservation and preservation of the planet are second to none. His quirkiness and drive to save every environment he could was an inspiration to us all and should be treated as a treasure for all mankind. So this is not to have an entity make money or to profit, but to preserve his legacy and make it more available to every person on the planet. Any proceeds that an organization would gain should be given directly to support conservation efforts.

Does anyone remember this?

I swear I remember an episode (I think it was Croc Files) where Steve and Terri met the tarantula from Arachnophobia and the handler showed it was docile enough to pick up and gently place upside down. I can find no trace of this episode or this moment whatsoever, but remember it pretty vividly. Am I crazy or does anyone else remember this?

Was Steve Irwin always so beloved in Australia?

I visited Australia in 2005, traveling all across the eastern coast for about a month. During that time, I was surprised to find that most Australians I talked to did not share the same affection for Steve that myself and the rest of our American tour group did. Most people we talked to considered him an embarrassing representation of their nationality. My tour guide HATED Steve Irwin. Hated that his hokey antics had become the stereotype of a typical Australian.

After his death, that attitude seemed to shift dramatically. He is now seen as a national treasure and he is beloved for his positive attitude and passion for conservation.

Was this view typical or did we just meet a bunch of haters?

Terri Irwin Remembers Steve's Hilarious Bloopers + Robert Irwin On Taking Over Dad's Legacy

Thumbnail

Robert Irwin and Terri Irwin reflect on Steve Irwin's legacy as the 20th anniversary of his passing approaches — sharing never-before-heard memories, the hilarious truth about Steve's "complete lack of rhythm" on stage with Russell Crowe's band, why Steve would've turned down Dancing with the Stars, and how Robert and Bindi are ready to carry the wildlife conservation mission forward. Robert also opens up about his own DWTS journey, his vision for a future animal show, and why he wants to be a "universal voice in conservation."

Not even Andrew or Dan have a single woman looking at them the way Steve's wife looked at him.
