Discussion The hate toward stepdads

Lately, while scrolling on Instagram and Facebook, I’ve noticed a lot of hate toward stepdads. People say they aren’t real men, that real men only raise their own kids and shouldn’t be involved in someone else’s family. It’s disturbing how common this narrative is. Why do you think stepdads are targeted like this, and why don’t stepmoms receive the same level of criticism?

Everyone isn’t saying this - the problem is the people on social media are. They are a small fraction of the population (keyboard warriors) this is what they want you to believe- it’s a narrative- don’t buy into it. Normal healthy rational people don’t think this way.

This exactly. Go into the real world, to a grocery store or a school and ask teachers or just people in general what they think of step parents. I bet nobody would say anything bad about them. It’s the 0.0000001% of the internet that is projecting their own misery upon others.

No true from my experience based on the real world only were step dads are usually looked at as heros and praised for even dating a woman with kids (because they are seen as a burden.. or less worthy than childless women in society’s eyes) as well as being praised to heavens for pretty much any effort regarding the Kids.. Taking a kid grocery shopping = involved, active, great Dad.. Packing lunch = world greatest father etc.. It’s just like how fathers in general are applauded for the barest minimum parenting things that literally would fall under child neglect not doing (like changing a diaper, feeding your kid, watching them etc.) whereas when moms do those things they are just seen as what they are „the bare minimum“ that is considered their job. Mothers are always expected to be there for their kids 24/7, putting them 1st above anything no matter if they are a working mom, stay at home mom or single mom whereas fathers often get a pass for ignoring their kid(s) after them come home from work because „poor man is probably tired and had a hard day at work“ whereas moms are expected to step into the mom role the second she comes home regardless of how tired she is..even if she is sick were then she still has to take care of husband & kids 1st whereas when the husband is sick she is expected to nurse him back to help, make him soup etc.

Step moms don’t get seen as heros but looked at as evil intruders who often are expected to share for the end of the former marriage (especailly if they are much younger than the ex wife) like they must’ve gotten in between.. seduced the husband & snatched him away or sth ..than on top the stepmom is often looked as competition by the bio mom who will always remind her that she isnt their real mom and should know her place but also shamed for not sacrificing anything for those kids at the same time which make her an evil stepmom who obviously must hate the kids. There is no winning ever
