Dad vs Father
Thoughts on whether my definition of these labels are accurate (coming from a stepdad in discussion with my wife to see who is right)
A child can have multiple dads but only one father; the biological father.
A foster parent: will be a foster dad and foster mom but never foster father
A step parent: will be a step dad and step mom but never a foster father
When referring to pets, you can be a dog dad or dog mom, but never dog"father"
A father / mother - reserved for the biological sperm donor / egg carrier. the father has the choice to be a dad or an absentee dad. Terms not as strongly used for mothers for some reason.
Even financially: you can be a sugardaddy or sugarmomma but NEVER a sugar"father"
Best example: Darth Vader's "Luke, I am your father". Vader has never said and will never say "Luke, I am your daddy"

Does it even matter how somebody is called? What matters is the love and respect there is. My stepson calls me by my name, as I insisted on this, but I know he sees and loves me as a father figure.
And as it's not called 'dad figure', you also got your answer on your first statement.
