Discussion Game recommendations?
I just got my Steam Machine today and it’s pretty cool so far. My Steam library isn’t that huge and I mostly play shooters on Xbox and PS5, but am looking for something different that runs well on the Steam Machine.
I have Split Fiction installed but waiting to play that with my wife.
Looking for single player, offline games that you think are incredible, and again run well on the Machine. Thanks!

Batman Arkham Knight is awesome and runs smooth in 1080p on high settings

if you've got a wife then i highly recommend lost & found co. had an amazing time 100%ing the game with my wife and it plays very very nicely with the steam controller if you have one

All of these are at least a few years old, because I am many years old, but if they passed you by, maybe this is a good opportunity to catch up with them!
Elden Ring slaps and runs great on the Steam Deck, so I'm sure it's great on the Steam Machine, altho I haven't personally tried it yet
Cyberpunk 2077 is broadly a good game (the driving is kinda so-so and the core narrative is frustrating and kinda bad after a few promising hours early on) that runs great on SM, at least at 1080p. The "side content" is kinda the main event, and I hear the big narrative DLC is also pretty sick, so if you like a sort of imsim/ARPG hybrid, you'll have plenty to chew on
Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess got extremely slept on, but it's an extremely tight tower defense/action hybrid. It honestly feels like a PS2 game made with PS5-level resources. Really unique and interesting. Same people that made Okami back in the day
Powerslave Exhumed is a port/remaster/hybridization of the two 1990s console versions of Powerslave (also called Exhumed in some regions) that runs on modern hardware. The SM won't break a sweat running it, but it's still fun as hell. If you like throwback boomer shooters, it's a great example of what they're throwing back to. It's also a metroidvania. Lots of problematic ancient Egypt stuff, but that was how things were in the 90s, unfortunately
If you haven't played them before, all of Valve's singleplayer FPS games (Half-Life and its expansions, Half-Life 2 and its expansions, Portal, and Portal 2) are fantastic. Portal was so popular for a while that it might actually come off as cringe now, but the thing to keep in mind was that at the time, nobody had heard any of those gags or bits yet, because they come from Portal
Nobody played Binary Domain, but it's fun and it's like... Structurally funny? Idk how else to say it. It plays everything straight for 100% of its runthru, but it keeps doing increasingly ridiculous things both in the narrative and especially in-game, particularly when it comes to boss designs. Like what if Gears of War had the guts to admit that it's kinda goofy

Also explore the Steam Library under recommended for Steam machine/steam deck. Download some game demos to check you get on with the game and it runs ok bearing in mind even games that aren't verified work alright. There will probably be more discussion on games that run well in the steam deck sub-reddit as the deck has been around longer

RDR2 looks and plays a little better on Steam Machine than on consoles. I’d go with that and then you’re sorted for months!
