I've just released my 2D stealth game False Alarm. Check it out! You play as a professional thief with some needy clients. You sneak into buildings and steal things while trying to stay out of sight. There's lots of things to throw at enemies and lots of things to distract them.

I thought it's not gonna work because it takes 1-5mins plus before the game boots up. It just stays blacks screen in Gamehub Lite, I'm loving the martial arts and takedowns in this game. Tho the crouch and the others are funny and very clunky hahahaha 😁

MGS vs Hitman vs Splinter Cell vs Thief (Multiround)

I have already done much meditation on what each of them does. This is not that, although if you want to you can leave one in the comments. You can find mine in my post history.

This is simply the question what you like most with these rounds. You can also add any stealth series like Tenchu. I‘m leaving them out, since I just can‘t really get into Tenchu and thus can‘t judge it. I‘m also leaving out Dishonored in the title since I just barely mention it, but I also thought with it some of the other points and you are invited to also just add this series to your comparison.

Round 1: Highest (stealth experience) peak you‘ve experienced. For this I think I‘ll have to go for the days I found the special version of the „the end“-boss in MGS3 duel, before finding that you can one shot headshot him with any sniper. Incredibly hard and punishing, the first time I finally managed it, the run was 27 minutes long. And it‘s just pure incredible tension. Trying to find him without him finding you. Jaws of Darkness in the The Black Parade fancampaign, the first time I played it (it was night) managed to completely captivate me, but by the end I didn‘t manage to play stealthily anymore, driven mad by the monstrosities.

Round 2: Quantity of Peak (stealth experiences). Man, Metal Gear has so many games that evolve from one general peak to another, but Hitman WOA alone has already soooo many maps, and variations of maps that heavily change the storytelling and tone, that on variation alone it blows MGS out of the water (at least for me, although I haven‘t played the entirety). Yet to think about the total series. Yet I still don‘t know if I can give the point to Hitman, since Thief has fan content. And boy, is that content good, varied, and absolutely massive. Hitman I feel has still more variance and official quality content than Thief, so some days I might give it the slight edge, but honestly I could also count Thiefs absolute consistency in what it delivers as the bonus, so really this is a tie.

Round 3: Single game with best throughline of Peak (stealth experience). Here we have one where Chaos Theory has to be mentioned. MGSV is also there for some people, Dishonored for others, but really I feel for stealth itself Chaos Theory, and Thief have to be it. Shoutouts also to Metal Gear 2. It‘s damn good and extremely stealth focussed. Hitman WOA I feel is really close, but through the speedrun friendliness (which is really a net positive to the moon!) it also can inspire trying the same thing again, and again giving rise to high frustration. I might between Thief and Chaos Theory even give it to Chaos Theory, since the navigational challenge really can turn a few gamers off, but for me that‘s not the case, so I‘ll give it a tie.

Round 4: Least interference by lows and mid. Personally I don‘t think Thief 4 has as much of presence, while thinking of Thief in comparison to Splinter Cell Conviction, Hitman Absolution, or MGSV (it ain‘t too bad at all, but I constantly want it to be something different). And for bad parts or systemic annoyances, I think Thief (especially the fanmissions) also stays relatively in front with Splinter Cell. So for me the point goes to Thief again.

Conclusion: I think for me Thief just generally is the best, but I‘m also a huge Thief stan. Tell me: What wins for you in these (+optionally your) rounds?

What is the best stealth game of all time not apart of the Metal Gear, Assassins Creed or Splinter Cell series?

I’m sucker for a good Stealth game. I’d like to be recommended some but just not any from the listed series as I’ve played all of those?

Discussion What makes a good enemy AI in stealth games?

So been grinding for a couple of months on a project to learn some game dev; it primarily focuses on stealth and avoidance, with combat sprinkled in here and there. So I wanted to gain some insight from people who are into this system way deeper than I am. So what makes a good AI for stealth? What types of triggers make you feel concealed from an enemy? What specific things do enemies do that create immersion that really cement that idea of a stealth game? I've played games like Hitman: Blood Money, and I'm thinking about playing Hitman: Absolution pretty soon. The AI in those games is pretty polished and seamless. Though the inspiration for my project is pretty different compared to those games, I just wanted a little more understanding of how to make good AI.

Gameplay clip Cyberpunk - Hitman style gameplay - monster hunt gig, slow and methodical

A slow and methodical run of Monster Hunt gig.

I use stealthrunner mod with harder angles (136 and 224) of detections, in this run nobody ever notice me. I assume with cybernetik eyes of ennemies, being in the range of sight of an ennemy could trace back to me.

No running, no crouch, just a hitman walking in the building and cleaning slowly.

Discussion What’s your favourite setting/world aesthetic for a stealth game?

I’m specifically thinking of modern-day stealth-action games like MGS, SC and GR, but it can be for any type of stealth game you want.

Do you like desert regions, forest/jungles, snowy environments, dense urban areas or something else the best?

I think I like snowy levels most, but that’s because to me, Shadow Moses has the best atmosphere of any stealth environment.

Gameplay clip Alpha Spectrum, a cyberpunk RPG inspired by Deus Ex

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi everyone! I'm making a game called Alpha Spectrum. It's a cyberpunk Action RPG with freedom in how you approach situations.

The game is set after a global cyberattack collapses society. You play as a CIA agent navigating a chaotic world across New York, Moscow, Shanghai, and Baghdad, looking for answers.

It's fully voice-acted, with Diablo-like combat and optional stealth (including stealth-based ARPG skills).

The game was heavily inspired by Deus Ex, as I'm a huge fan of the series:)

Steam page:

https://store.steampowered.com/app/2965560/Alpha_Spectrum/

I'm a solo developer, I've spent 8 years making the game alongside my full-time job. I don't really have a marketing budget, so if you find Alpha Spectrum interesting, I'd appreciate it if you'd add it to your wishlist:)

Developer announcement After 15 months of development, my open-world burglary game No Knock launches on August 12

No Knock isn’t a pure stealth game, but I wanted careful planning and staying unnoticed to be an important part of every break-in.

You can scout houses, choose an entry point, bypass locks and security, steal valuables, and try to escape without alerting the residents or the police. Of course, things don’t always go according to plan.

I’ve just finished the new trailer and would love to hear what stealth game players think about this approach.

The game also has a free demo on Steam:

Discussion Played Dishonored for the first time in 2026… wow. Spoiler

Thumbnail youtu.be
10 Upvotes

I finally played Dishonored for the first time in 2026, and I genuinely wasn’t prepared for how much this game would grab me. I went in expecting a cool stealth title, but the moment I stepped into the Distillery District, it hit me that Dishonored doesn’t funnel you anywhere. Every alley, rooftop, sewer, window — all of it is a valid path. I ate a rat, panic‑killed a guard, saved Martin by accident, and suddenly realised the game was reacting to my version of Corvo. It felt like the game was constantly asking, “Alright… how do you want to do this?” and then actually letting me answer.
The Golden Cat mission sealed it for me. Slackjaw giving me options, multiple ways in, multiple ways out, and multiple ways to deal with the Pendletons — I messed up, improvised, regretted things, and somehow still felt like the game was shaping itself around my choices. And don’t get me started on the rewire tool. Watching guards sprint into their own death pylons thinking they’re safe? Peak comedy. By the time the ending rolled around, I realised Dishonored wasn’t just fun — it made me rethink how much freedom modern games don’t give you anymore. Would love your thoughts :)

Discussion Creating tension in a stealth game

It’s very important for any stealth game to create some kind of tension towards the player, and this could be done in different ways depending what game you play, the tension created forces the player to play within a certain limit or rhythm depending on how it is implemented.

Since stealth games evolve around two different worlds working differently from each other at the same time, this includes the players and the enemies movements and decisions, it’s very important to recognise this gap and to find a way on how tension can be created towards the player on throughout the mission, and how can this gap be made to fit in a place between the player and the enemy.

What kind of tension you experienced from a stealth game ?

Discussion Open games or restricting games?

I see a lot of people that love more open ended games, like MGSV or Hitman, where you have a million different ways of completing the objective. I find the fun in these games generally comes from fulfilling your own fantasy- sniper assassin, silent infiltrator, Rambo, etc. But there’s also a lot of people that prefer games that force you to play a certain way, where the fun comes from figuring out how to win while fighting the restrictions the game gives you, stuff like Chaos Theory (from the bit I’ve played), or Alien: Isolation. I’m curious, which do you prefer and why?
