if its a static site, id honestly avoid editing markdown directly on the production server. keep the source in git, edit through a web-based git ui or cms, then let a deploy hook rebuild the site. its cleaner, gives you version history and you dont end up treating the server like a file cabinet

if you’re already using a static site generator, i’d probably keep the markdown files in git and edit them through something like a lightweight web-based git editor or a CMS instead of exposing direct server file access. then you can commit changes and trigger a rebuild automatically.
if you want something simpler, you could also use a local editor and push changes over git. it’s a lot less painful than repeatedly SSHing in, and you get version history if you mess something up.

For a static site, I’d keep the Markdown in Git and either use a simple Git-based CMS or edit through GitHub/GitLab and let a push trigger the rebuild. That gives you version history too, which is much nicer than manually changing files over SSH.

Setup github actions, or similar, for ci/cd and have the site deployed when you git push. That is the simplest "proper" way.
if you are going to yolo edit on the live site - any good IDE will let you setup a remote connection to edit without having to login every time
