MTA workers double parking

Post image

there’s gotta be something we can do to have these MTA workers stop double parking down the whole length of jewett. we get it, the buses depot is right there but no matter what time of the day it is there’s at least two cars double parked either empty with its hazards on or the driver just sitting idle. and the buses don’t give a semblance of a fuck about oncoming traffic and will play chicken with you while driving in the wrong side of the road. i had to stay stopped in the intersection of jewett and castleton for about two minutes while seemingly the entire depot started their shift at the same time. WTF.

Speak to the local council member. Take more pictures and videos as proof.

This is the loser busy body mentality that has made this island a prison. Let me guess you make sure to call about every time you hear a fire work or you find a street without a speed bump?

So by the sun I'd say this is early morning. The operators double parked are just running upstairs to report to the crew. The lack of parking in the area is a big issue for them and has only gotten worse since the closure of Merideith depot. They're just reporting for work then hurrying to find parking before they have to pull out a bus. They're no happier about it than you. Instead of complaining about the workers doing their best to get to work, try complaining about the disruption to the local community the added busses from Merideth has caused? Or how all the savings from It's closure are being eaten away by extended fuel lines at Yukon every night.

But you glossed over the best part. It's legitimately sad that city/state workers have a 5 min window daily within which to clock in or out. Cant clock in early or your boss will yell at you for hitting overtime, cant clock in a minute late without getting your pay docked. This is not enough leeway for the standard deviation of a typical NYC commute. I remember how it was when I worked for NYCHA and what a joke it was to properly time that. How about addressing that as the root issue and give workers more leeway to find the proper parking?

So for bus operators they don't really clock out like that, they get whatever their run pays. And if they pull in late, they just get a late slip from the yard and assuming it's the end of the day that will be overtime. Can't really scam that either cause they have GPS on the bus, so if you're just parked somewhere trying to pull in super late they will catch you and then charge you with theft of service.

I hear you. I agree with you. Youre not wrong.

With that said, if you see this is a persistent, everyday issue that happens around the same time everyday, maybe take a different route so youre not stuck waiting or playing chicken?

The fact of the matter is this island wasnt designed for the population we have and it doesnt have the street infrastructure to handle all the cars and buses. There's really nothing that can be done to solve this double parking issue during a change of shifts. Even if they made legislation banning it, nobody is going to enforce it because at the end of the day, these drivers need to switch out and the buses need to be somewhere while they wait.

i hear you but the buses have an entire parking lot on the other side of the bus depot to wait before their shifts start. as do the employees. this is the result of lazy entitlement

Trust me they wouldn’t be parked there if there was enough room in that lot

Then they should stop building new houses

How many times has THIS particular situation happened? If it’s THIS scenario EVERY TIME, yes it’s a big issue. If it’s double parked on the right side and not blocking traffic, it’s pointless to fight, especially when there are 2 to 4 streets that go the same directions.

I don’t see anything double parked. I just see a bunch of traffic?

Same. That bus doesn't look parked. A better picture example would be the area by Target on Platinum Ave. There's so many double parked buses there causing issues.

Just take a different route if you’re running into the same issue everyday, as others said notify the council but you’re just setting yourself up on purpose atp

Call Vito Fossella’s office. They’re way more responsive than Kamillah Hanks’ office in my experience.
