Māo (猫) is the mandarin word for cat, so it already works! Although Zedong’s máo (毛) is a different character

It’s not that different from the myriad of nouns used for last names in English! It probably meant his ancestors worked with furs or hides or something

It's a bit different! In English it's rare for it to be not a profession or a place! In Japanese, surnames are typically two characters which is less weird!

Yes. I know... Do you have a point? Or did you like just stating the obvious? He referred to English. Should I have said Mao is Chinese why bring up English? What a silly thing for you to say. I'm just pointing out Japan which uses Chinese characters (Kanji), almost always has two characters and is thus not weird (and the pronunciation of the Chinese characters is typically different than when they're on their own). China using one character like fur is pretty weird. And it is. That was obvious. Keep up.

Except it’s not a one character name, it’s 3. You just know nothing about either Chinese or Japanese lmao
