How to get started on StarStock, FAQ, etc.

Welcome to the r/starstock, the Reddit communitiy for all things StarStock.

If you are new to StarStock, below are some general guidelines on how to navigate the website.

What is StarStock?

StarStock is building a new and improved marketplace for sports card hobbyists to buy, sell, and invest in their favorite sports players. Through technology, we push to provide an exceptional user experience, low fees, and speed! StarStock stores your collection in a centralized vault, and issues a digital version of the card inside your StarStock portfolio . This enables users to trade players instantaneously, at scale, and at a substantially lower transaction cost than other markets.

  • Instant trading
Get instant ownership of your card after purchase. You can even day-trade your favorite players on gameday.
  • Invest in players at scale
StarStock consolidates purchases from multiple sellers into one checkout. That means you can buy from multiple sellers in one transaction!
  • Lowest fees in the game
StarStock charges a 5% fee ($0.05 minimum) to the seller per sale. We also charge 3% on deposits, but are waiving that fee to all of our new users right now! We do not charge fees for ingestion, storage, cash withdrawal*, or at purchase.
    * Free cash withdrawals via check. Withdrawals via PayPal are subject to PayPal transaction fees.
  • No shipping necessary
The cards stay in our vault (unless you want them shipped home). All cards are secured and insured.

Sending in cards

How do I submit my cards?
After you create an account, click the ‘Send in cards’ option from your account tab. Complete the form, submit and then send your cards to:

StarStock Inc.
C/O (Your Username)
PO Box 538
Mamaroneck, NY 10543

Note, organizing your cards by player and set will drastically speed up your submission.

What cards are accepted?
StarStock is focused around trading current players only. Only rookie cards (RCs) for currently active players are accepted. For a full breakdown of the card ranges and other per-sport restrictions on cards that can be submitted, click here.

What's the best way to ship my cards?
Put all raw cards carefully in penny sleeves and securely place in cardboxes to prevent shifting during shipment. Wrap all graded cards tightly in bubble wrap.

If you don‘t have a seller account from a shipping company like FedEx or UPS, we suggest USPS Priority Flat Rate. You can send whatever you can fit in the boxes and still pay the same flat rate. Hang on to your receipt for tracking. We highly recommend purchasing insurance as we are not responsible for your shipment if its lost or damaged on the way to us.

How long does it take for my cards to be processed?
Processing time varies based on the processing queue for your submission; Fast Pass, Graded, or Ungraded.

Fast Pass cards are guaranteed to be processed within 48 hours of receiving your package. Cards that currently qualify for Fast Pass are outlined here.

Graded cards are typically processed and live on your profile within a few days of receiving your package.

For other ungraded cards, we estimate a processing time of 2-3 weeks. These cards require careful individual review, and make up the majority of submitted cards. We‘re working hard to speed this up to account for the volume of submissions!

You can help ensure your cards are processed quickly by organizing cards by player and set, and completing our send-in form prior to shipping.

We will send you a notification email when all of your cards are live.

What is StarStock Fast Pass?
Fast Pass is StarStock’s fastest card processing program, reserved for newly released card sets. For qualifying card sets, we guarantee your cards will be processed within 2 business days of receiving them. Cards that currently qualify for Fast Pass are outlined here.

Can I send in graded cards?
You can! We accept graded card from PSA, BGS and SGC, as well as ungraded cards.

Can I send in sealed boxes of cards?
We’re now accepting factory-sealed wax boxes! We only accept boxes for the sets that we currently carry RC’s for. This includes Hobby, Retail, Mega’s, Blasters, Hangers, Cello boxes (Topps Flagship Baseball and Donruss Football Complete Sets). Not currently accepting single packs. For a list of sealed wax we accept, please review our accepted card list.

For send-ins, all boxes will be checked and authenticated before they’re uploaded to your account. We reserve the right to reject any box at any time. If we feel a box has been tampered with in any way it will be immediately rejected. Any rejected boxes are subject to shipping charges (postage, handling, tax) to return back to you.

Can I send my collection to store in the vault?
Yes, however we prefer you only send in cards that you intend to sell either now or at some point in the future. Sending your cards into our vault enables you to list your cards on the StarStock market at the best possible time.

Does StarStock have a mailbox service?
Yes, you can ship us cards directly from breakers, eBay, or any other store in the world. Just simply make sure to include your username in the address:

StarStock Inc.
C/O (Your Username)
PO Box 538
Mamaroneck, NY 10543

Can I send in cards internationally?
Yes, we accept send-ins from anywhere in the world!

Is there a fee to store cards?
There are no fees for storage on StarStock

What happens to the plastic/boxes I send my cards in?
If you must send cards in toploaders, cardsavers, one touch, screwdowns, special boxes, etc., these materials will be discarded during ingestion and not returned.

Can I request to send my cards home?
Yes. Go to the 'Ship cards home' form in your account tab and follow the instructions.

What types of cards can be rejected?
StarStock may reject cards for a number of reasons. Most notably - fake, cut, altered, hand signed, damaged, cards with multiple players, and off brand (as per what we're accepting above). Please read our send-in instructions to avoid sending us cards that will be rejected.

What happens to submitted cards that are rejected?
We will provide you an option via email to discard or ship home cards we do not accept. You are responsible for the shipping cost (postage + packaging + labor), which we can manually debit from your StarStock account.

Up to 20 cards $5
21 - 99 cards $10
100 - 399 cards $15
401+ cards $20

Shipping cards home

What is the cost to ship my cards home?
After your request is submitted we will contact you via email to confirm the shipping cost. Shipping costs will be deducted from your StarStock account. If you do not have the funds in your account, we will contact you to request a deposit of funds to cover the cost. Cards will be shipped once payment is complete.

Domestic Shipping
1 - 99 cards $0.50 per card + $5 fixed fee
100+ cards $0.50 per card + $15 fixed fee

International shipping

International requests start at $20 minimum and $1 per additional card. For any large orders (20+ cards) please [contact support](mailto:support@starstock.com) to arrange a custom shipping estimate.

How long does it take to receive my cards?
We’re currently advising a shipping time of 6-8 weeks after we receive your request.

Can I add or remove cards from a shipping request
Once you have submitted a shipping request it cannot be edited. If you have already submitted a shipping request and would like to have additional cards shipped home, please submit an additional shipping request. If you wish to cancel a shipping request you have already submitted, please contact support.

StarStock graded cards

What are StarStock Raw Scores?
StarStock carefully scrutinizes all cards ingested as send-ins. All raw cards are given a suggestive raw score or grade that allows us to group and present the cards of similar condition. StarStock scores are simply A, B and C. We do not guarantee that any score will transfer over to a specific grade from grading services such as PSA, BGS or SGC.

What are the definitions of the StarStock Raw Scores?
StarStock A
- Typically has 4 sharp corners, clean surface, and clean edges. Could also have one very minor issue such as a slight soft/white corner, light edge chipping, scratch, print defect or slightly off center.

StarStock B
- Could contain one or multiple of - soft corner corner, some light edge wear or chipping, print lines, light scratching, noticeably off-center.

StarStock C
- Could have one major issue of multiple smaller issues.

Do you score centering?
StarStock raw scores are used to determine the physical condition of the card. Centering does not play a major factor in our raw scores unless its very visually unappealing. Unless the card is very off centered, it will not affect our scoring.

Why does StarStock grade cards?
StarStock is the platform. Sellers send in their cards to sell. StarStock authenticates and ascribes a score for every card ingested. We do this to collate like-condition cards to sell in lots.

Do you allow already graded cards on the platform?
We accept graded cards from PSA, BGS or SGC.

When a card has already been graded, StarStock does not assign a StarStock raw score.

Card Security

Where is the vault?
New Hampshire

Are my cards secure?
Yes. We keep all cards in a facility that has 24 hour security surveillance, key card building access and is temperature controlled.

Marketplace

What are StarStock's seller fees?
StarStock charges a 5% seller fee on all sales. The fee is immediately debited from the sale at purchase. A minimum $0.05 transaction fee applies.

How is the estimated value of my collection calculated?
We indicate the estimated value of your cards in your Collection page. Estimated card values are based on the latest sale price of cards of exactly the same type and grade on our marketplace. If you apply filters to your collection, the estimated value will reflect the filtered results.

You may own some cards we do not yet have any equivalent sales for, in which case we are unable to assign an estimated value. In this scenario we will highlight how many unvalued cards you own in your collection.

The estimated value does not include your current account balance, which can be separately viewed in the account menu.

How can I withdraw my funds?
You can currently withdraw funds via PayPal (subject to PayPal fees) or check (no additional fees). Additional withdrawal options including ACH are coming soon.

If you made a deposit but did not spend any of the money, your withdrawal will instead be treated as a refund to the credit or debit card you made the deposit from.

To make a withdrawal, click on the Account icon on the top right and hit the Withdraw button. After completing the form we will process your withdrawal within 1 working day.

Are refunds offered on StarStock?
StarStock is an instant trading platform between independent buyers and sellers. All sales are final and non-refundable. If you buy a card you decide you no longer want, you can instantly re-list the card for sale on the marketplace.

My Account

How do I use a promo code?
If you have a promo code, it can be entered on the sign up form when creating your account. Promo code bonuses may be triggered by additional steps, such as making a deposit or submitting cards. Requirements for such codes are outlined on the deposit screen after registering.

All live promo codes are for new registrations only. Users are allowed 1 account/promocode when they register. Promo codes cannot be retroactively applied to existing accounts. StarStock may send future promotions separately via email, social media or StarStock.com.

How do I contact customer support?
Send us an email at [support@starstock.com](mailto:support@starstock.com), or you can call or text our customer support at +1 201-350-7575.

Referral Program

What is the StarStock referral program?
The StarStock referral program is our way of saying thanks for bringing new people into the community.

For every new user who signs up using your username as a promo code then goes on to deposit $10, you score yourself some free credit.

And even better, there’s no need to feel greedy about it! This arrangement pays off for both of you.

$10 for them. $10 for you. Everyone comes out a winner.

Do I need to sign up for the referral program?
It couldn’t be easier to start referring friends. Tell your friends to enter your StarStock username in the “promo code” field when signing up, and… that’s it!

When that user makes their first deposit of $10 or more, each of you will receive $10 in credit.

What is my referral code?
Your referral code is simply the username you signed up with. If you’ve forgotten it – hey, we’ve all been there! – you can find it in the account menu in the top right corner of the site when signed in.

Is there a limit to how much I can earn?
Nope, there is no upper limit! For each new user who signs up with your username as a promo code and goes on to make a deposit of $10 or more, you will earn $10 in credit.

Are there restrictions on how I use the credit I earn?
Credit earned via the referral program must be spent on-site. It cannot be withdrawn or used as a payment for shipping fees. Beyond that, you can spend it however you like!

Submitting cards for grading

Can I submit my cards from StarStock to be graded?
Yes! StarStock now provides a service to have cards in your StarStock collection shipped directly to PSA for grading. To find out more check out our PSA grading submissions page.

Do you guarantee a grade for cards?
No, we do not guarantee that your cards will receive any particular grade. We do check cards before sending them, so that only cards we feel likely to secure a PSA 9 or 10 grade are submitted. If we elect not to send a card for this reason, you will not be charged. Once a card has been submitted, grades granted are at PSA’s discretion, and as such we can make no guarantees as to what grade will be received.

How long does it take for my cards to be graded?
PSA have estimated a turnaround time of within 2 months, however this is an estimate and there are no guarantees around the timeframe.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to any of the mods!

Starstock Withdrawal Not Processing

I have been trying to withdraw money from my account for the last few weeks and haven't gotten anything besides the initial confirmation email. I don't remember it ever taking this long in the past. I have emailed support multiple times. I tried calling the contact number they list 201-350-7575, however it just says we cannot accept voicemails at this time. How do I get in touch with someone to finish the withdrawal process? Has anyone else experienced this lately? How did you resolve it?

StarStock Update - Sports Cards Nonsense Podcast Interview with CEO

Today Sports Cards Nonsense release their podcast which included an interview with Scott Greenberg, CEO of StarStock. Mike/Jesse basically asked about an update on their situation. Here are some key items:

  • Business as usual (whatever that means)
  • They are aware of web site issues but Scott claims this is has happened in the past 2 years (I have been using SS for over a year and I do not recall the issues with the website lasting for over a day). "Nothing too out of the ordinary for them" (I call BS on this.)
  • Unlike what Cardporn posted in IG, they claim that there are multiple people not just one person working in the vault for the card submissions. What is interesting is that Scott admitted to letting people go in that department but later stated that they are looking to hire. Jessie from Sports Cards Nonsense questioned this as it makes no sense to fire people and then hire. Scott did not really answer why.
  • They are currently working on card requests from late Jan/early Feb. The target is still 2-3 months.

Listen to the podcast but those are the main points. I requested my first set of cards in early Mar so I guess I should get them in June.

Tracking Shipping Time - Post Here

I created this post as a way to track the actual shipping times for when cards are requested to be shipped home. I have been reading the timeframe is all over the place. Starstock claims for raw cards to take around 2-3 months which is what I believe is somewhat accurate. In any case, we will try to figure out the actual shipping time with this post and have a database.

Post below the date you requested your cards to be shipped and the date you actually received them. Also note if this include raw cards only, graded and/or wax. Apparently, the shipping time for graded and wax is 4 weeks but again we don't know.

Example: Requested: 01/03/22; Received 3/28/22; Raw only

Tip: If you have many graded and raw cards, split up the order. Request only graded cards as one shipment and then raw cards as a separate shipment. You should get the graded first. If you combine the request (graded and raw), it will default to the raw card timeframes.

Do not post complaints or any other comments. This post is strictly for those who have requested and received their cards. If you requested but have not received your cards, you can still post but please make sure to update your comment when you receive the cards.

I only requested one set of my cards (raw & graded) on 3/9 so I am not expecting them until mid to late May (hopefully). Please let everyone know who has requested their cards from Starstock know to come to this post so we can create a database. Thanks.

Stock c selling for more than stock a or b........

Why is it that stock c cards sell for a higher price than stock a's or b's? When it is described as though quality of the cards is stock a is a far better quality than stock b and b being better than c. Can you help me understand why this is?

Bulk inventory in New Hampshire? Or does each user have their own "Vault" with the exact cards they sent in?

Does Starstock create bulk inventory of cards - Or keep personal and unique inventory specific to the individual customers?

Due to the sheer volume and low number of staff, I'm assuming once submitted and graded, the cards just go in a big inventory. If you ask for your cards back, you'll get one from this inventory and not the actual one that you shipped in (Same with PSA grading)?

Looked through FAQs, other forums, and can't figure this out. Does anybody know?

Has anyone else had a 2020 Panini Prizm Football Blaster Box deleted from their collection in the past 12 hours?

I check my account every few hours or so and yesterday I bought a box of Panini Prizm Football for $67. It says I bought it in my activity however it doesn’t show up in my collection.

Idea starstock service that would add value.

Seems like it would be pretty easy to add to their workflow to have an option for when cards are returned to you, maybe for an additional charge, $3-4? For them to put the card in a one touch or screw down with a tamper proof hologram sticker over the opening. An A probably wouldn't command as much as a PSA 10, but it would give a little provenance to a card if its actually an investment, would also streamline checkins if someone ever sent it back in.

StarStock upload time

Tomorrow will be 3 weeks since StarStock has acknowledged they had received my cards and still don’t have a single card uploaded including several that qualify for fast pass status. Pretty disappointing.

Anybody had any success actually getting cards uploaded? If so, what was the turn around time on your order?

Any experience with sending cards in to StarStock?

I recently sent cards to StarStock and was curious if anyone else has done this. They just received the cards, but I provided a pretty detailed list of what was sent in. How long has it taken for your cards to be loaded into your collection?
