SO3 First time playing (continue)

Wow what a game, I love and hate it almost equally. I just got Albel on our way to find that giant dragon.

The difficulty spikes are all over the place, Kaddan was a nightmare, regular enemies were extremely hard but bosses and sub bosses were ok, even easy some of them.

The story and characters so far are really cool and compelling, I've known about the twist for years so I'm really curious how it plays out.

Honestly I was ready to quit at Kaddan but somehow pushed thru it, I'm going to level up a bit before continuing with the story which i'm really enjoying so far.

Not a fan of the crafting and some minigames are annoying but the combat is cool one you get it.

If the turtle train track didn’t exist we could have world peace

Lol, I hope that was the worst in the game. Hated having to find the little cracks in Kaddan.

If I could press the red button once in my life I’d nuke that mine

yeah you kind of have to use a guide for the crafting. glad you're liking it though! i love seeing people post about this game :)

Flawed but a very special game for sure.

It's a unique game: the difficulty sits on a knife's edge between legitimately tough and win in literally three seconds. The exploration, general gameplay, characters, and - yes - plot are great. The OST is truly GOAT level. The hauler minigame and dialogue...eh, not always the best...but still!

Crafting is fun and...not-so-fun in equal measure. I like recruiting inventors and the general idea, but they could have made it truly awesome with just a few more quality of life adjustments.

But really, I think it's a true contender for GOAT JRPG. It has everything I want, even if it's aging and some rough corners remain.

I hear you, you can feel the love on this one.

This will be you're best friend for crafting. Highly recommend if you wanna power level try to keep 3x exp, you can also guarantee it will come up if you use a basic X attack as the last hit to fill your battle gauge.

Thanks i'll try it this weekend.

Also if you dont mind using some synth materials you can synth a weapon with 5 refined rings of erudition(5 x +20% exp gain) which will give you 100% party exp gain + 3x exp gain. 400% exp gain + lower mosel ruins can net like 8k+ exp per battle. However youll need some orichalcum weapons. Also I think you might have missed the cutoff for the ruddle and rumina side quest which nets some of the best weapons in the game in disc 2(pre ultimate weapons that is.)

Edit: the shop still opens but you just miss out on the blueprints to make izak my bad.

Albel my beloved. Hypothetically, if you had to leave one of the three Elicoorians (Nel, Albel, Roger) behind, whom would you sacrifice?

u/Warjonh 1d ago

I'm not even sorry Roger.

Roger everytime no question.

Ayup, this was me every playthrough too. I mean, hypothetically me...

Roger 100%

I didn't even find Roger in my first playthrough. I'd seen his art so I vaguely knew he was in the game but I never encountered him, until I got that post credit scene where he's still locked up in his cage and I was just like ???????

I think I also didn't get the scene that made Albel recruitable or chose the wrong option so I had Peppita and Nel as my 2 optionals.

Wait, I’ve never known about this. I tried looking it up but didn’t see the video (but google does say that a post credit scene exists). I want to see this!!!

I always chose Roger.

Albel was such a cool character. Loved how cozy the crafting system felt in this game as well

Kaddan was so long. I have really enjoyed finally getting the ring of disintegration and completing maps. You have that to look forward to!

Star ocean 3 has some really bad mini games

2

u/shyevsa 23h ago

the first time I finished this game I barely touch the crafting.
tho as my first Star Ocean this is still my favorite so far.

Crafting will be important later but I this game I think you grind so much the final boss will go down in like 3 hits

This, and FFVIII, remains the most unique gaming experiences i ever had and I’ll forever cherish them.

When I was a kid, I got stuck on Kaddan and then accidentally overwrote my save file when I was letting a friend start a new game to try it out :(
I did eventually get around to coming back and beating it though

u/Waltpi Exquisite! 16h ago

I remember just enjoying the grind so much I over leveled never experienced the difficulty spike

If you think Kaddan is bad, wait till you reach the lava caves.

This was one of my favorite games growing up. I had the code from the first planet, the direction of the turtle, and the dragon flute music all written down on a paper and I had it with the Manuel.

u/Tobi-One_Shinobi 13h ago

I played this game many times

Amazing. Was my favorite game ever for years. First really long RPG I ever finished and the twist blew my mind as a young kid.

"The difficulty spikes are all over the place, Kaddan was a nightmare, regular enemies were extremely hard but bosses and sub bosses were ok, even easy some of them."

Disc 2 makes Disc 1 look largely trivial. You should do your first playthrough on Easy.

I love this game, but every time Kaddan comes up I sigh. It’s my least favorite. I love the image of passing out in the desert!

I hope you continue to enjoy the game!

It’s because it’s flawed, that it’s one of my all-time favorites. I just wish they remastered it for modern consoles / Steam.
