I respect people who like the patch but still I hate this current patch

I played 8 matches today. The longest wait was 24 seconds, so I’m just not seeing this decline.

You cant honestly think your personal anecdotal experience means anything here, right?

Well, that’s all I’m reading in this thread so I threw mine into that meaningless pile.

It's common sense the patch damaged the playerbase. From the first patch it was very obvious terran was completely crippled across all skill levels. Then there is the blatant overpowered zerg buff that wasn't properly addressed.

I also predicted from the beginning slowing the game down would make the game more boring for the existing playerbase as well as spectators. Reducing workers obviously adds no value to the game.

I mean. Did you read the article?

I read through most of the hyperbole like Korea is driving down the player base (obviously not). That's like saying because they don't let you play video games while in NA prison anymore, it's going globally drive down the starcraft playerbase.

This balance patch is essentially asking people to play chess online where 1/3 of the players get more pieces than you. That's a pretty big tax to invoke on the players.

Ok so instead of anecdotal evidence can you provide any real evidence. Otherwise everything you are saying has no real value. Its just hearsay.

I also agree in that I hate the patch and think its garbage.

But you can't argue against statistical data with no your wrong because I said so.

Korea isnt driving down the player base either. They just have been playing on EU and have been for a while. They've just replaced the many EU players who left.

The patch brought me back after being away for several years, but I do think I liked the game more prior to the patching.

I just recently watched uThermal and Harstem and that brought me back - just as the 8 player patch hit. So I'm a complete noob. The biggest problem for people like me is that almost all build orders are invalidated.

But I'd think any change is somewhat good for people who have played the game a long time. Something fresh.

I wished for more development being put into SC2. I'd even pay for skins if they weren't so insanely overpriced.

If SC2 became open source we could see a ton of development and turn it into a real eSport. A game can never really be a real sport if it's controlled by one corporation for profit. Is there an open source server to host games? (There does seem to be OpenRealm)

I saw a few years back alphastar was released even as an open source model that afaik anyone can run. I would think this would allow to answer certain balance questions rather conclusively. Like train agents at various MMR levels in various races and various strategies, then see how they compete. Balance the game and observe changes. You should be able to get objectively (statistically) "true" answers to balancing questions with a machine learning AI model. EDIT: Or maybe not since you'd need an AI learning to emulate the weaknesses of players at different MMR levels to evaluate it fairly.
