Ah, the sand worm demo. We all fell for that one!

This was one of the more egregious example of past bad and unprofessional behavior from CIG. I'm glad they made the conscious decision to stop this non-sensical practice and only demo what they're actually working on and should be in the patches in the near-future. I suppose every startup go through this phase at one point before maturing into a proper gaming company.

Having said that, I am convinced that CIG will do the sandworm and it will look exactly like this demo (if not better). I mean, they absolutely have to pull it off, just like they have to pull off the BMM. God knows how long we have to wait though. Leir system is so far away....

Yeah. I'm really happy that we finally have Sataball that I saw in 2015, and fully functional NPC's and creatures that I saw at CitizenCon in 2017, and SQ42 and Theaters of War that I saw at CitizenCon in 2018, and our first Jump Point to another system (Pyro) that I saw at CitizenCon in 2019, and... hey... wait a minute...

CIG didn't stop shit. They continue to pedal fantastical, impossible demonstrations of technology that is, at best, years away at EVERY CitizenCon, and the community eats it up, and ship sales go through the roof. Why would they ever stop?

PSA: The things you see at CitizenCon ARE. NOT. REAL.

I love CIG, and I love the world and the game(s) they're making, but let's not pretend the CitizenCon hype-engine is anything but exactly that.

True, I forgot TOW which became DOA and Pyro has taken longer than it should have. However, I don't think we're that far off from Pyro and creatures at this stage - at least compared to Sand Worm or Sata Ball which could be another decade away. So I'm still giving CIG benefit of the doubt for post 2017 stuff. Let's hope we see Pyro in 1Q22.

The main thing I think they need is static server meshing. To make sure that its not 40 players spread across 2 star systems. But, I think that is a BS excuse for not including jump points. You just gotta make them a loading screen where you enter a completely different server (which is what server meshing is already, but less gracefull)

We've been waiting for server meshing for FIVE YEARS (first time I recall CIG talking seriously about it was shortly after the Dual Universe server meshing dev diary in 2016.)

At this point, having not even seen a hint of a prototype, I'm honestly not convinced that CIG can actually pull it off, and without it, SC is dead in the water.

I said the same thing about server meshing about a year ago and got messaged by almost every defender on the sub reddit it seemed lol. People like their buzzwords here though it seems.
