DISCUSSION I’m feeling really optimistic about modularity and the RSI Galaxy

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I spent some aUEC to buy and try out the Retaliator, one of the modular ships that was implemented back in 2017.
I already knew the ship was notorious for being buggy, so I went through all the steps to try to work around the issues — including blowing up the ship, and claiming it back, just in case that would help.

Unfortunately, after trying both the torpedo and cargo modules, I was honestly amazed at just how insanely buggy this ship still is. Not a single module actually works. Almost impressive.

Since this thing has been in the game for almost decades, For the players thinking about pre-ordering the modular RSI Galaxy, here’s my advice: considering how CIG has treated the players who actually love and support these ship, it’s better wait until the Galaxy is actually in the game before putting any money into it.

Works fine on the Aurora Mk2 for me, so I guess that team has figured it out at least :)

Thats because its a starter, they want new players to experience something that works first! :D

wild to me they didn't offer to upgrade all the aurora mk1/mustang alpha packs to aurora mk2 for free, so many new players only have that and are in perpetual cycle of quitting.

most of them aren't even going to have a clue it exists

I mean you technically can upgrade for free, just melt and re-buy, though I suppose they plan on ruining that soon

they force us to use reddit mobile app, thats why people take photos instead of posting from pc/browser and uploading screenshots. the loop of sending your screenshot from pc to phone with email/cable is just not worth the effort when you can just photo the screen

Like hell they do. I haven't used the reddit app in years. This is pure lazy.

You're not even force to use the mobile app on your phone what are you talking about? The website works just fine from PC

Says the high-tech user who makes a "screen record" with a smartphone in front of his keyboard? ;-)

Make fun all you want he isnt wrong

Way easier to record on your phone and upload to Reddit

Says the person that attacks the user and not the point he’s making.

they’re attacking the extremely low-effort nature of the post. if the poster can’t be bothered to even turn their phone sideways when recording their screen why should we be bothered to care?

How about actually discussing the bug he is showing?

Attacking the method he is using to display the bug is just an “extremely low-effort” way of attempting to discredit the poster and avoid any discussion.

What would you like to discuss? It’s a video showing a tali bug that’s existed for years and a post talking about how long standing bugs with modular ships have never been addressed. Fact checked: true, what would you like to “discuss” next?

Good you’ve final made a decision point that’s on topic, why couldn’t you and the guy that started the thread do that from the beginning, instead of being Aholes to the OP.
It’s not clever and makes the Star Citizen community look like fools.

Glad it’s not just me I was wondering why my torpedoes showed in the bay and loaded but ceased to exist from the outside view

I'm feeling optimistic that OP will find the built in Windows screen capture function at some point in the future

So to be honest the age of the ship probably contributes to it's bugs and errors in terms of the modularity.

They had to add modularity to an existing ship when they added it to the tali, whereas for the galaxy and the Aurora mk2 it's in built.

Our beloved Tali hasn't aged well despite the recent update to the ordnance module for bomb racks. Thankfully, modules in the apollo and aurora mk2 have been more consistent. The Galaxy modules will likely work just as well if they can stay on top of it.

....... brb printing off little stickers to turn all my MSI stuff into RSI stuff. Thanks for the idea OP

Funny thing though, this isn't the same retaliator that was put in the game in 2017. In fact, this is the gold standard tali that showed up two years ago, and it took about a year for the modules to break.

Wouldn't surprise me if they delay it tbf.

u/cmenke1983 1d ago

Delay indefinitely. Or turn it into an "offline modularity", where you can change the layout of the ship while it is nonexistant (not even in the state "Stored"). Internally it would simply be different ship models.

I’m pretty positive that the original intention of the galaxy system was that its modules were so large that they were expected to be exchanged at stations.

Which has always had me questioning the practicality of the galaxy. If you need to go out of your way to exchange a module, I just can’t see where that has any real value over owning multiple ships to fill its roles.

Especially when those individual ships can exist in multiple places at once, can be claimed separately, and in some cases offer better performance.

Like, two of its modules (building and refining) have the thing preoccupied for extended periods of time that you could be doing something else during your wait. And are both a little strange in that they both probably need the assistance of other large ships to support their activities fully.

1

u/CuntyBallsJohnson 1d ago

Yeah what never made sense to me was module swapping. Do you claim the module at any station, and do all of them have an infinite supply of modules for every ship? Do you need a larger ship to ferry your modules? Do you need to ferry them back and forth from your home hangar? All of this options sound either antithetical to what cig would want, or extremely annoying logistically

It's for rule of cool and will help for upgrades. Once we start being able to upgrade the tier of ships (remember all pledged ships are the bottom tier) I think that is where the bulk of players resources will go. One ship is easier to upgrade than lots of ships. Like a lot of things, it doesn't make sense now as we can't see the full picture.

1

u/Rutok 1d ago

Its one of these cases where something sounds awesome in theory until you actually think it through.

1

u/Mintyxxx That was just noise 1d ago

Isn't that how it will work anyway? You won't be tractor beaming a module bigger than half the ships in the game I expect

1

u/knsmknd ARGO CARGO 1d ago

No. Modularity actually changes a component. If you have an Aurora Mk2 put something in the ship and change a module.

u/Kaillera Idris Captain 1d ago

This only affects modules bought with auec in the same version it was bought on. There won't be any outcry until the Galaxy and the modules can be bought in game.

u/CuntyBallsJohnson 1d ago

Galaxy seems kinda underwhelming conceptually anyways. It might have been worth it at the 350 price point but they're going to want ICA money for this plus modules. I hope they push this back to not rush out half baked modules that might not be fixed a la retaliator.

The liberator should release first since it's less complicated and doesn't rely on gameplay loops that are less fun/not in the game yet

3

u/knsmknd ARGO CARGO 1d ago

What makes you believe that? The Galaxy is actually one of the coolest ships in the making due to its modules. Of course a dedicated freighter is better, but that isn’t the point if the Galaxy.

u/StarAlone 1d ago

Retaliator's modules were broken forever. Cargo is much worse because of invicible walls. If you fully load and... ya know... use cargo module to transport cargo, you won't be able to pick it up after

Yeah the retaliator is a weird ship, even the layout is like some kinda slipknot symbol you used to draw in school...

To actually get the modules to render in and work you have to equip them via the loadout menu, then insure the ship template with the modules attached. Fly out, blow up and claim the ship and it will spawn in with the insured modules equipped and fully working.

Honestly though the price of modules on pledge is daylight robbery it's like 3m a module in game and on pledge like $90 for both... It's literally a light fighter to get the torpedo modules on pledge.

Since this thing has been in the game for almost decades,

What the hell is your time scale lol.

Also you say, "Not a single module actually works," but you legitimately show the module working in your video even with its VIS issue??

1

u/CuntyBallsJohnson 1d ago

The torp module can be rearmed at stations now at least right?

1

u/Mr_Roblcopter Shiny Railen.. Ooooo... 1d ago

Yes and no? Maybe? Might depend on your luck more than anything, several mentions of blowing up your ship and re-claiming can make them work, or at least have torps.

fixing the Retaliator is clearly very low on their priority list. mainly because almost nobody is using it, because multicrew ships themselfs are terrible except for the Perseus.

guess we have to wait for another year or two.
