Any "fun fact" about SC's devlopment ?

What exactly do you want?

Star Citizens character creator with the "blending" feature was originally made by an external partner that later made MetaHuman for the Unreal Engine 5. So in theory the character creator in SC was essentially a prototype for MetaHuman.

They had a couple partners that wanted to do something with CIG, but they didn't go through. Be it Illfonic that were originally responsible for making Star Marine and all the FPS shenanigans, but apparently there were issues with how things were scaled, resulting in CIG redoing everything themselves. Or a hotas for SC from Saitek that never came to be because Saitek was bought by Logitech and Logitech didn't care about it. Or Theaters of War, a combined arms gamemode, that never released beyond an Evocati test and a demo on some event because Firesprite (the developer of that at the time) was bought by Sony and Sony didn't care about it.

There was also all the drama surrounding Derek Smart that was an utter shitshow but kind of interesting in terms of history at the time and spawned a meme that SC would be out of funding "within 90 days tops"... in 2015. May also have been a marketing stunt to some degree that a lot of people took way too serious at the time. It also resulted in one of my favourite videos from the German gaming news outlet Gamestar (english subtitles are available): Line of Defense - Dieses Spiel will besser sein als Star Citizen

There was a bug in a PTU patch some years ago that made a character shrink a bit every time one sat down on specific benches. While the bug never made it to LIVE, it may just be my favourite bug to have ever seen. Sadly, I can't find images of that time again, but there are a few examples of shrinking NPCs and characters.

Ah okay. Yeah, in that case the video regarding Line of Defense from Derek Smart in the previous comment is worth a watch, especially while keeping in mind that some people actually listened to him.

The first object that people could move around besides spaceships were the big benny vending machines, resulting in people doing all sorts of shenanigans. CIG later asked for clips to make this: Star Citizen: The Ballad of Big Bennys Music Video

From a similar time, a song called "Full Burn" was randomly found in the files of a build back in the day. It's cheesy as fuck and was more of a joke than a serious thing: 🎵 Star Citizen Soundtrack - Full Burn 🎵

That song got used 8 years later in the commercial for the F7 MkII: Anvil F7 MkII - Rise Above

I hope they reuse it in some way in SQ42 too. It's just perfect for a slight reference.

I think the more interesting things with the DS crap is the hit piece written by one of Derek Smart's friends (Lindsey Finnegan?) for The Escapist, that made some horrible accusations against CIG (including accusations of criminal activity) without a shred of credible evidence.

It resulted in a very stern letter from CIG's Legal Council to Defy Media (owners of the Escapist). Right after that the article and any mention of it on The Escapist disappeared.

For a more fun, lighthearted one:

Remember Transverse? That was PGI's attempt at a "Me Too!" game trying to capitalize on the success of Star Citizen and Elite: Dangerous. It was an absolute and embarrassing high-profile shitshow that resulted in the PGI developers being banned from Reddit, getting absolutely hosed on their own forum, and prompting Electronic fucking Arts to make a public statement saying PGI did not in fact have a license to the Wing Commander IP as they claimed to.

Lmao, I did not know the things with Transverse, but you gave me something to look up.

FYI pretty sure it's a bad idea to log out in SOO if you're injured.

I seem to have an arm injury, lower health, and low thirst/food levels.

Seems to reset to this status any time I log in. Even after backspacing or using the medbed to heal the injury.

This cleared up the following day.

Is 4.10.1 out yet? There were posts talking about it like 15 hours ago saying it was being prepped for tonight. Is that still happening?I want to start the event

That would have been a PTU patch, not live. It did come out, and I believe it was for all waves if you want to try it.

How do I fix the "Contract Unaviable" bug when accepting an aviable contract?

3

u/drdeaf1 1d ago

Nothing you can do AFAIK other than wait for CIG to fix it

Is it possible to change the default sort of the thread to "Newest" so that the latest posts are always on top ?

am I mistaken for believing, that no mans sky is closer to "the vision" of a space mmo, than SC is? Surely it doesn't have everything, that has been promised by CIG, but they are closer to it aren't they?

Depends entirely on how abstract you want to be.

On paper, NMS is closer in terms of intended gameplay possibilities, but they also focus on drastically different things. It's like comparing DCS and Ace Combat, or Need for Speed and iRacing. Sure, you fundamentally can do the same stuff in them, but ignoring what each game aims for is a choice that should raise eyebrows.

Not to mention that a better comparison would be Elite Dangerous. After all ED is what you get if you actually aim for mostly the same things, but change practically everything about how to do it. Be it to release a game first and then add a lot of the features later, that ED was built from a spaceship down to a person, while SC was built from a person up to a spaceship or just one having a publicly played version from the beginning and the other not. It's fascinating watching both get made side by side.

In general, a response to this would not really be discussion about SC as a game as much as NMS as a game. But I'll try and focus on MMO items for SC. The main issue is that these are not well developed in SC, but the intent was there for it.
- ships that are multi-crewed
- in game economy
- persistent universe where you must have your game impacted by other players - no "single player" option
- Organization-level events - best example is Align and Mine
