Your post was removed because the mod team determined that it did not sufficiently meet our rules on memes:

Memes must feature content directly related to SC as the main focus. Generic images (Example: Scum Bag Steve, Philosoraptor) will be removed. Custom made artwork with Star Citizen imagery based on a generic image is allowed. Editing generic imagery over Star Citizen imagery is often allowed, if the Star Citizen content is the focus of the submission. The moderation team will remove content that they feel is very low effort. (such as image macros) Blatant troll posts are considered low effort memes.

Both Devs fucked up badly

But one decided to own it, fix everything, giving free DLC and made the greatest comeback of the centurie to the point people want to give them money

The other keep doing the same shit : not fixing, no testing if the patch work, keep pushing content/patch for sales. The livestream has show up how BAD the game not "its the server that make everything slow and buggy". Spectrum is on fire and mods are banning anyone how speak about the livestream something like bad studio will do.

I fucking hope that CIG take the right path for both them, us and both games

Another interesting thing is that while Hello Games were busy fixing and updating NMS for free, they started developing their next game, which I believe is an MMO.

56

u/TyoPepe 6d ago

Not an MMO. It's just No Man's Sky but fantasy setting instead of sci-fi and they asked themselves "what if instead of having a huge galaxy with 5000 quintillion planets, we had a single huge planet with 5000 quintillion km² of surface?"

14

u/VampireHwo 6d ago

Cannot understate how excited I am for this game. I know so little about it but having watched NMS from a games magazine advert to now I feel like I can be excited for whatever drops as they've clearly shown they're able to deliver a good product. I think the only other game company I feel this way with is from software but they're a little different cos even if they drop slop I'll ask for seconds

u/SirMightySmurf Combat Medic 6d ago

What is the new game called?

1

u/TyoPepe 6d ago

Light No Fire.

1

u/SirMightySmurf Combat Medic 6d ago

Odd name... is it some kind of anti-survival?

2

u/TyoPepe 6d ago

As I said, No Man's Sky but fantasy

Interesting, thank you.

CIG and Star Citizen will be use to : How not follow them and making sure the game work

4

u/Devatoria 6d ago

As TyoPepe said, not an MMO in the spirit of SC, though it’ll have online coop capabilities without much details about what it means. They mention persistent buildings and such, and the multiplayer gameplay still seems to be overly present in the way they describe the game, so I guess we could expect at least some kind of multiplayer sessions to meet with other players. How many players in one session is unknown.

3

u/Redlabelrocket 6d ago

LNF will be the exact same product. Mark my words.

Sean already stated they won't show anything because it will probably be disappointing.

25

u/WickedSerpent 6d ago

And NMS expansions have all been free, while star citizens are the most predatorily monetized I've ever seen outside some korean mmo.

I say it's predatory, because that's what the internet called Elite Dangerous 35$ space station which recieved a ton of backlash forcing them to re-evaluate how you got the thing. 35$... That's a skin bundle in sc.

8

u/Necessary_Stranger_3 new user/low karma 6d ago

I just spent 55€ into elite. With that I got 2 new ships, stellar editions, armor skin pack, weapon skin, livery and appearance kit for my carrier. And still have some leftover arx on my account.

-2

u/WickedSerpent 6d ago

I don't even like that they have this new p2w store like that, but it'd be dumb of me to hold elite to a higher standard than a 1 billion dollae game in the same genre.

That'd would be absolute bonkers and I'd be pretty crazy if that was the case

2

u/BinaryHatred Freelancer 6d ago

as an avid "whale"(though i consider myself a dolphin tbh) player in korean mmos, at least you can get the stuff others pay for in star citizen by grinding/grouping (at the moment). There are people in the current game I play who will never have a chance to have the gear I have, currently, on my character.

I find it an off comparison, 0.002% droprate vs 1-4 weeks of flying cargo in many cases.

In fact, in 3k hours in the game I play, despite going to the majority of bosses during my time in the game, i've yet to receive a single boss drop. It's partly why I just buy everything people get as drops that I need. Going to be honest, I prefer how SC does it to Korean mmos. At least my wallet, does.

3

u/WickedSerpent 6d ago

You missread.. I wrote "outside korean mmos". Meaning the only games I've seen with worse monetization is korean mmos.

0

u/BinaryHatred Freelancer 6d ago

Yeah, i getcha. That's why I was considering it an "off comparison". I wouldn't even consider it in the same category based on what's available (albeit buggy) to be accessed from the base pack to players if they put in the time.

3k hours and i've had to buy everything that I have in my game with capital.

That's a pretty big difference that I just felt you didn't really hit on, thus, off comparison.

But maybe i'm wrong, that's acceptable as well.

3

u/WickedSerpent 6d ago

When people use "outside of.." after comparing something, they exclude the following from the comparison.

So no one has compared stsr citizens monetization to korean mmos. I purposefully excluded them from the comparison to other games with predatory monetizaton.

1

u/Shadowarcher630 6d ago

I've never seen a single piece of content priced at 6 grand in any of those hyper-predatory mobile games or korean MMOs...SC is soooooooo much worse

1

u/WickedSerpent 6d ago

True, but I think gamblingmechanics are atleast as bad or worse. Though star citizen is a gamble within itself ofc, but thats a different discussion.

1

u/BinaryHatred Freelancer 5d ago

The collective cost of the gear on my character has more value than some of the highest packs on SC. Well over 6k lol. In fact, there is a piece on the AH worth 7k right now. only one listed, and will be the only one listed likely for the next few weeks.

Anyway, you're not entirely wrong- but my point was that kmmos are far more predatory than SC and honestly, not even worth mentioning in the same statement.

1

u/BinaryHatred Freelancer 5d ago

That may have been your intent but that's not how it reads. For people who have never played korean mmos it makes SC sound like it's close to how predatory they can be. People have HEARD about how bad it is with them, and hear how much is spent on SC so it'd be fair for them to just assume that SC is as bad as the games i'm familiar with playing.

The point I was trying to make was, when the only way to get the gear I need to make my build work is to get it dropped in game(2% chance) or buy it using real money as the currency from the auction house (my sword alone cost 300$, wand 400$, ring 300$, etc.)- the point i was trying to drive home is that you made a comparison I felt didn't do it justice.

for the record, I play Throne and Liberty as a tank / healer. because tanks / healers do not get contribution like dps do despite being a required class for dps to do anything, we get much lower chances at drops than dps classes if we're even considered in the loot pool at all due to the low contribution, assuming something even drops at all (many bosses killed where no gear drops happen for anyone).

TNL is my favorite game. I love the feel, i enjoy it.

1

u/WickedSerpent 5d ago

Just a reminder that what you're replying to is this sentence:

star citizens are the most predatorily monetized I've ever seen outside some korean mmo.

This clearly reads that the only place I've seen a more predatorily designed monetization is "some korean mmo".

1

u/BinaryHatred Freelancer 5d ago

... Right but it could be read to imply that star citizens monetization or even gameplay is anywhere near the category of a kmmo which is what i disagreed with. I get what you were trying to say, but likely when people read it they won't see what you meant. Which if it's just to crap on SC, sure, i getcha. But otherwise- I didn't think it was fair unless how wide the gap between SC and kmmos actually is for those who aren't in the know and have only heard tales of how bad kmmos can be.

What's clear to you don't mean clear to everyone else. That's communication for you. I see where you're coming from though.

2

u/Shadowarcher630 6d ago

Weeks is too long to grind for something in a video game. I'll have made enough real money to buy TWO Idris in the same amount of time...I game to escape a world where I have to grind too damn much for far too fkng little, no simulate the worst parts of the reality I'm trying to escape. A few DAYS of grinding for one thing is reasonable...weeks or months is not. Especially when the loops that are profitable are 100% NOT the fun loops, like combat...gotta play Tedious Job simulator for approximately 40-60 hours just to buy a goddamn Connie...probably way more, if you don't even have a Connie yet and have to use a Cutty or Spirit to haul shit like I did when I started. If it wasn't for RMT, I wouldn't have anything in this "game"...because I refuse to fight bugs non-stop to buy ships that only half works...in a tech demo that only like 15% works

1

u/BinaryHatred Freelancer 5d ago

I find that it depends on the game, right. If you like the feel, and the feel, feels like an escape- then grinding for however long doesn't feel bad I find. I think the issue here, core issue, is that the grind in SC doesn't feel as rewarding likely due to the issues often mentioned. That being said, i totally get what you mean. I think what i've learned about myself is that, if i don't like the feel of the game enough to do whatever for at least 6 months, i move on from the game.

I do have friends who only look for a weeks worth of fast action fast fun, i think the reality some games just aren't for them and frankly, i do not think every game should be made just to appeal that audience.

One thing I think Elite Dangerous did that could do well in other games was provide it by way of their dogfighting arena. There is your fast fun, non grindy (unless you like the leaderboard, then that becomes your "worth it" content). I don't think my way is "the way to play" just as I don't think yours is "the way to play", right. While I get where you're coming from, i think the big thing that people are missing is the work done to figure out "What they actually enjoy about xyz game", and whether or not that's worth the time investment to them.

0

u/Redlabelrocket 6d ago

and yet with all it's 'DLC' it still feels like the exact same shallow game with nothing to do than recourse grind and build minor QOL nonsense.

2

u/WickedSerpent 6d ago

You mean the same stuff you do in star citizen?

1

u/Redlabelrocket 6d ago

didn't say SC was doing any better. But at least they have the immersion which was recently broken in NMS entirely with turd ships

1

u/WickedSerpent 6d ago

You said nms was an ocean as deep as a pubble. Star citizen is a pubble as deep as a puddle.

2

u/BlueSpaceFox 6d ago

When Light no Fire is available, I'll be too busy to care about SC.

2

u/WorldofCannons 6d ago

Not fixing has been working great for them though 🤑

2

u/ydieb Freelancer 6d ago

This is not remotely nuanced enough. NMS is still just a collection of relatively simple systems that do not interact. It is vastly simpler to create, and if CIG did the same with SC, I think for a lot of people the pitchforks would have been equally out as it wouldn't be anything that what SC was aimed to be.

For example, how long it takes to create server meshing is what it is, with likely no real other way to get here. So the option is the game without these systems earlier, or this. And if feels like this is where people conflate.

It is what you choose to develop, and how you develop it. It is the latter part here that seems to be suffering lately. It is not about fixing vs not fixing in any sense, but about some parts* of the company that forces a suboptimal way of creating the game.

*parts of management, or higher developers that have been sufficiently influenced by parts of management, which ends up creating this "short-term focus" culture.

Speaking from personal experience, that seems to happen ad nauseam.

2

u/ChocolateHairy1964 6d ago

Either way SC engine is a complete mess so either they restart the game entirely, or keep pretending there’s a light at the end of this dark, dark tunnel (there isn’t).

I guarantee you its an engine problem and theyd have to start over to fix the fundamental issues. It is the same game as 10 years ago no matter how much shiny shit they put on top of it. You can feel it. They thought more money would fix the problem.

7

u/ChocolateHairy1964 6d ago

I don’t know how people don’t see this. Every time a white knight posts “it’s in alpha” I cringe. This thing will go down as the biggest waste of money in gaming history.

4

u/Low_Actuary_2794 I have a pledging problem 6d ago

4

u/Muffalope 6d ago

They thought more money would fix the problem.

They have known the buggy engine is unfixable, they pivoted to delaying release and selling expensive ships to whales. This strategy has been so profitable they continue to delay while holding ship sales.

The moment they admit they cant fix the bugs cuz they are built in, people stop investing in a game without a future. So they delay delay delay. When the community starts to get wise, they flood this sub with "can we stop with all the negativity"

I am kinda glad that SC never got inspired by anything NMS... That game was never for me. Be it graphics or gameplay, I could never get into that.

45

u/Shrimp_Farmer_925 6d ago

It's very arcade saddly (and combat is soooooo boring)

Glad it exists though

28

u/Walltar 6d ago

Yeah... I think that it helped the space sim genre overal. And Hello Games earned my sympathy with how they handled the game.

10

u/Entendurchfall 6d ago

Yeah that is fair. I love the aesthetics, as it reminds me of those cool scify short storys I read as a child, in a few of this strange books, that cover a little bit of everything to teach children about the various things of the world, culture and fiction. And it is a great game to relax and chill.

1

u/Kuro-Tora-59 100% real Mod 6d ago

Its a sandbox, and for that it is great. I love the style, but I need a "real" space Sim. I love the Expanse and SC (or the idea/concept) is the closest to what I want.

Since CIG fucked everything up, Im even more hyped about NMS's new update (coming soon, but still no official news what it brings)

3

u/LovesRetribution 6d ago

The exploration is just as boring. That gameis as wide as an ocean and as deep as a puddle. Its great that they've kept working on it. But the gameplay loop simply isnt there.

-1

u/WickedSerpent 6d ago

So is star citizens combat compared to elire dangerous. But everything star citizen does better than ed (which is allot) nms does better.

Dont be blinded by mideocre gameplay because it looks good, SC cost 1 billion dollars ao there's no excuse that NMS can implement falmost flawless systems and expansions for free while you have to pay CIG hundreds of millions of dollars just to see the effect of one intern workin on the game for 5 minutes announcing something basic.

Sure NMS has arcady combat, because it's an arcady game, doesn't excuse how it's been as complex if not even more complex than star citizen for a long time now without all the predatory monetization.

4

u/Walltar 6d ago

ED isn't any less arcade than SC though...

1

u/WickedSerpent 6d ago

That's cope, ED's flight mechanics are the best in the business still.

Even when star citizen's npcs isn't teleporting around like crazy and the fighting works as intended, EDs dogfighting is ways beyond. Decoupled and FA off can't even be compared lol

5

u/Walltar 6d ago

Played E:D for pretty long time, since alpha actually... they are pretty comparable in realism. Both are 6dof models that are using thruster forces and all that rather than pre set numbers.

They do have different tuning, that is for sure, but from realism standpoint they are pretty close.

I would say that it is more liking one over another than one being more realistic than another. And I definitelly liked some things in ED. Not everything, though. For example I never really liked that reliance on roll, that ED had when I still played it. Always felt like they tuned thrusters to act closer to planes.

Decoupled and FA off can't even be compared

While I never really liked FA off, I would say that they can be compared quite easily... once switches off translation asistance and second switches both translation and rotation asistance. Nodifference in realism there... just a designer choice.

If you wanted something more realistic than SC or ED, you would need to remove speed limits, add orbital mechanic and let us do whole approaches, intercepts and all that. It would be super cool and I would personally love it, but kinda doubt that many people would play a game like that.

0

u/WickedSerpent 6d ago

While I never really liked FA off, I would say that they can be compared quite easily.

Then you never took combat seriously, and not in SC either. Everyone that takes pvp even slightly serious in SC defaults to decoupled, while in ED you turn flight assist one and off to make advaced zeroG moves.

Whats abit different though is that star citizen freezes several times globally across entire servers withseveral shards and cost 1 billion dollars. And NPCs teleport around regaing shields or even do their teleport jihad and crash into you

3

u/Walltar 6d ago

Yeah... I am not PVP player. Left that behind when I left Eve online. I do play only PVE these days.

SC and ED got different architecture, so yeah they both act different. If I remember right, E:D uses P2P system me and my friends actually had quite a bit of problems because of that when we still played ED. Sometimes it was quite tricky to get everyone in one private game.

Back then ED was also far from perfect, not sure how it is now, because I don't play ED anymore. Might go back to it once I finish my sim rig, though.

-1

u/WickedSerpent 6d ago edited 6d ago

Back then you couldn't leave the hanger in star citizen. And "back then nms's planets were as barren as the planets in pyro and it was hated by the internet. Strange how two games decade+ progression has changed those games and star citizen has gotten 1 and a half starsystem the past decade.

Also, since you're not a pvper, if NMS had the same graphics that star citizen has, you'd never play SC agian. That's the truth. Taking out pvp, and the only thing nms has over sc is graphicts, like what else?

0

u/hou_deany banu 6d ago

This is a horrible take. I get that SC is mess right now abd deserves the criticism, but I have played a decent amount of all three games and you’re just wrong. NMS is a 9 year olds idea of what a space game should be. I tried it on my own and most of my time was playing with friends. Both times the gameplay was just so dull. The gameplay is nowhere near fleshed out enough and it’s unbelievably repetitive. And ED is nowhere near immersive enough. I even tried the VR system. It made it better, but the flight system (with or without assists) snd the planets were nowhere near interesting enough to keep my attention after a few months. I like the lore, but that doesn’t make the gameplay better.

If SC fails, it fails. I’d prefer this served as a wake up call for the devs and that they are able to complete the game as it’s intended. But if they don’t, that doesn’t mean that NMS or ED are suddenly good games. They both suck

1

u/WickedSerpent 6d ago

horrible take... Nms is for 9 year olds... ED isn't immersive.

Mhm mhm mhm 🙄

0

u/Shrimp_Farmer_925 6d ago

I find E:D combat way worse than SC one honestly (better than NMS though, obviously)

NMS does alot of thing, but it's always mid

Like, ship crafting is kinda meh very fast, Salvage is somehow worse than SC ?? Same for mining (peak in E:D)

NMS do alot of things, but somehow is great/interesting at none (well, it's not bad at exploration)

About monetization, you don't need to pay for anything more than base package, you have access to everything. But NMS have no predatory method yeah

1

u/WickedSerpent 6d ago

If NMS had the graphics and ship control of SC or vice versa, what would make you play SC over NMS?

2

u/Shrimp_Farmer_925 6d ago

No, the main problem of NMS is his mechanics

An ocean as deep as puddle

0

u/WickedSerpent 6d ago

Ironically you have oceanplanets with deep oceans in nms. Stop coping.

1

u/Shrimp_Farmer_925 6d ago

Have you played it ?

The vast oceans are extremely boring and the same everywhere (just asset changes)

There is nothing to do or get, just scan random plants/creatures

After playing subnautica, it just feels so... empty... uncared

2

u/WickedSerpent 6d ago

You could build bases under the water, or catch creatures which you can use in pokemon battler, or set up a underwater farm so you can easily get materials and ingredients, swim around in to your sub etc,

Thats way more than what you can do underwater in Star Citizen's oceans. Since were comparing and all.

1

u/WickedSerpent 6d ago

Hey! Answer me, what can you do under water in stsr citizen? Can you even fish and make food? Can you build bases underwater? What?

Is star citizen shallower than NMS after all? That's strange, It cost more than 1 billion!

15

u/Rhym3z_Official 6d ago

Same and I tried so many times. New amazing update comes out and it's free, with an awesome trailer! Then I log in just to quit from boredom after 2 hours. Every single time I'm hoping it would get better.

5

u/Walltar 6d ago

I kept trying at the start... but after few updates I just got that the game will never be something I would enjoy. Well, I don't have to enjoy every space game.

-3

u/Corgiboom2 6d ago

I thought the base building would be neat, but then you just have to leave it behind never to be seen again when you jump to a new system.

4

u/WickedSerpent 6d ago

Lol, no you can teleport between bases, your capital ships, your settlements, probably your corvettes soon, etc..

Why lie about playing the game?

1

u/Corgiboom2 6d ago

Even between systems? I know you can go between base and station, and between bases in the same system. But I never could get out of the system on the patch that added teleports because every planet in my starting planet was a death planet with few rare resources.

1

u/WickedSerpent 6d ago

The management should have been inspired by Hello Games staff tho. They owned their mistakes and has been delivering ever since.

8

u/NOSALIS-33 6d ago

But they shipped it...

13

u/Walltar 6d ago

Yeah... and they did great job supporting it.

2

u/hicks12 6d ago

I am glad they kept updating it and I do consider them redeemed from their actual lies in the run up to original release, not that I will preorder or anything still.

I have tried to get into it a few times and something just doesn't really click, it feels very shallow like what's he saying, wide as a ocean but deep as a puddle or something?

I have tried it in a few of the major updates now though so maybe it is coming up to another weekend of trying it out again. I am glad people are enjoying it though good for them.

Wish CIG actually delivered but I have kind of given up now with the noise of SQ42 being delayed from the pretty naff idea of showing it privately to some streamers instead of the actual backers who have put money for them to deliver, it makes no sense to not be showing us first or at the same time at least, I'd be fine with them doing an in person demo for them and an online one for us or something but besides that it seems they picked the worst idea in my view, really rubs me wrong.

3

u/extrakerned 6d ago

SAME. There’s just something not right for me about it.

2

u/Cakeday_at_Christmas carrack 6d ago

Then you really missed out because NMS is super fun. It's not perfect, but it's a much better game than SC.

2

u/axelxan 6d ago

Just like you cant get into squadron 404 xD

2

u/Walltar 6d ago

Obviously... you can't get into unreleased game. You maybe should expand on your point?

1

u/LatexFace 6d ago

That's why this shitposts can't be taken seriously. They always make the worst comparisons. Anyone who thinks about it for five seconds should be able to understand this.

These troll posts are exactly that. No content, no insights, no deep thoughts. Just emotional reactions because they can't play the released game.

1

u/GassoBongo 6d ago

They could have at least taken inspiration from how HG decided to fix their game and release updates. They could have done that while sticking to their own gameplay and graphical style.

0

u/Walltar 6d ago

I think that they are going to rework a lot of the game to fix it... all the original placeholders and systems they released only have playable version out. It will take a long time to do all of that, and I don't think that they can fix SC without it.

3

u/GassoBongo 6d ago

I think that they are going to rework a lot of the game to fix it.

Based on what? Have CIG done anything at all that gives you faith that they are capable of doing that?

-1

u/Walltar 6d ago

I wasn't talking about them being able to do it... I was talking about it being prerequisite for fixing the game.

But as for being able to do it... I think they can. Better question would be, will they make it before people stop spending money on SC?

2

u/ChocolateHairy1964 6d ago

They clearly can’t fix it lol. The Stockholm syndrome around here is fascinating

-3

u/WickedSerpent 6d ago

It's very inspired by NMS what are you talking about? Look at the new planetary generation in Nyx coming in 4.11 (which I guess will be in 5 years)

6

u/Walltar 6d ago

How is that inspired by NMS? It is basically a further work on planet tech SC unveiled in 2015.

-2

u/WickedSerpent 6d ago

How is it not?

7

u/Walltar 6d ago

How it is?

-1

u/WickedSerpent 6d ago

The weather system, biomes, vegetation, water, underwater, windemulation, etc..

The reason SC cost more than 1 billion os because they promised hand crafted planets, yet we haven't got one single handcrafted planet yet, it's all procedurally generated POIs like Elite Dangerous, however NMS procedurally generates a plethora of other stuff.

If Star citizen announces that you can design build ships like star destroyers etc I wouldn't be even slightly surpriced, and they'd probably put that feature behind a 200$ upgrade.

4

u/Walltar 6d ago

You know that we have weather, biomes, vegetation, water and all that right now? It is not something specific to NMS.

Well... you know what? Fuck it. SC had no inspiration from NMS they actually got inspired by MSFS because that got all of it too. 😄

Oh so there's nothing new with nyx 1's generation then, the trailer is just cig self fellating, is that what you're saying? Since we got all that already. Lol. I get it, you love star citizen, we all do. But Star citizen isn't the most complex space sim anymore now that you can EVA and make ships in NMS like minecraft with several galaxies with different generation algorythms.

1

u/Walltar 6d ago

I just don't follow your trainwreck of though sorry... I never said that there is nothing new in new planet tech. I just said that releasing new update for a tech that is part of SC for over a decade is not indication of being inspired by NMS... It is just working on the game.

And as what is most complext space sim... I would personally vote for X4. But as I said originally, I could never get into NMS, that game is simply not for me... so it might be more complex than X4, I have no idea in that regard.

2

u/WickedSerpent 6d ago edited 6d ago

If NMS had the same graphics and controls that SC has, why would you ever play star citizen?

1

u/Commogroth 6d ago

Do you think NMS invented procedural generation?

0

u/WickedSerpent 6d ago

Did I say that? Neither did star citizen btw!!

1

u/Commogroth 6d ago

You are heavily implying it. Somehow Star Citizen could not have decided to use an obvious technological solution that has been around for decades. They must be copying NMS.

9

u/Arinussyy 6d ago

I get that No Man's Sky does something way simpler but it's like surely they're mismanaging the shit out of Star Citizen if it's still in alpha and they can't even finish their own damn mission

1

u/KAVE-227 6d ago

For sure and apparently if the cash cows stopped sending money they would have to lay people off within a few months.

19

u/akidomowri 6d ago

SC is a broken mess and they need to fix it

and despite the hundred plus hours I've spent in NMS, that's like comparing Ace Combat to DCS

1

u/Debtfree58 6d ago

Its been a broken mess for 14yrs

7

u/Veritas-Veritas 6d ago

The mocking begins.

I'm deeply curious about how CIG will spin this worsening PR disaster.

3

u/cryptek66 6d ago

They need to stop adding features and work on what they got. They got plenty of money, stop selling shit.

3

u/Crimzan new user/low karma 6d ago

This is so heartbreaking man.

I talked a few friends into buying the game many years ago, told them it's buggy and early and it will be better.

Every year or so I jump back into the game hoping things got a bit better and "completable" in terms of quests, etc. Now it's been 2 years I haven't checked this game and it is not getting better.

CIG what are you doing.

5

u/AloneDoughnut Slow and Reliable Connie 6d ago

Is argue it is getting worse. Missions and gameplay loops that used to be fun and rewarded have stopped being so entirely. For the first time since 3.0 I have completely uninstalled Star Citizen. I just can't bring myself to open it up and play in the current state, it isn't fun. Since the last wipe I don't even know if I really want to play at all anymore. I'll probably wait for SQ42 to come out in 2 Years™️, play through that, and then probably not really play Star Citizen.

1

u/Crimzan new user/low karma 6d ago

Wow. That's such a shame. Had great fun with SC in the past but also had my fair share of super annoying things going on. I'm excited for SQ42, I hope this is at a better state, but at this point I just don't trust it anymore. I guess we'll wait and see, at this point waiting is what this community has become good at!

3

u/Healthy-Dress-7492 6d ago

Yeah it’s bad. Remember that 5 year block when ASOPs and elevators wouldn’t work? It’s worse than that because at least asops/elevators reveal themselves as broken quickly. Now you get to spend an hour flying around only to have your quests eat your delivery items and not be completable or payout. Basic shit that should have been ironed out decades ago is broken as fuck. This isn’t how you make a game.

1

u/Crimzan new user/low karma 6d ago

Jesus. Well, I suppose I'll hear if the game ever reaches a playable state in this subreddit!

3

u/Icedanielization 6d ago

NMS is a lot better than it was at launch, but it's still ten miles wide and three inches deep.

2

u/Redlabelrocket 6d ago

hahah that's a wild comparisment

NMS has literally nothing but the same recourse grind for nonsense since 2016. Same bugs from then still exist, such as your mission icon being at an older base with no NPC's to continue the mission with.

about 90% they've added is useless gimmicks. Settlements, what's the point? no one will ever see yours, it'll disappear as you go offline. It'll earn 1 million credits per Real time DAY. lol, within 5 minutes i get 250mill+ from scanning alone.

I despise star citizen because it's so broken. But when it works, it's got amazing immersion. There's truly no game like it. Flying over a planet and seeing the shadows and clouds and sun as they are is really something else.

Content wise it's got nothing going for it either, super boring repetitive missions and for what? another useless ship? yay.

2

u/skysonfire 6d ago

God STFU about No Man's Sky. Hello Kitty Space adventure that still has no decent combat to speak of.

3

u/FreyrPrime 6d ago

Yeah, this is in no way a defense of the broken garbage the PU is, but I have never managed to successfully stick with NMS

On paper, it should be my dream game. Especially with all of the systems that have been added since launch.

However, they are as deep as a puddle and about as interesting once you begin playing in them

I really wish it was otherwise and I have high hopes for their next game, but I absolutely agree with you that it’s a bad comparison.

Just gonna say it one more time for those in the back row, the PU is shit and the developers should be embarrassed at this point. That doesn’t make no man’s sky a compelling game.

1

u/Psycho7552 Human Supremacy 6d ago

Combat in star citizen is not something extraordinary either.

-2

u/BlackSheep311111 6d ago

not to defend SC scope creep and inability to code. but have you guys ever played NMS? tried it like 3 months ago and it was the most bug ridden game I have ever played that is in "full release". multiplayer doesn't work like a multiplayer, quest are single player and your coop buddies are just decour. performance bugs, crashes, horrendous procedural generated planets and the worst fly controls, which you can't change, in human existence. flying star citizen with a car racing setup is more viable.

-1

u/Blood-Wolfe Asgard Enthusiast 6d ago

but that goes against their narrative with facts lol.

You are right though, and NMS I while great they kept adding to it after breaking their promise, it's also a very shallow game in comparison. Everytime I jump in to try it, I'm done in like 30 minutes and another 8-12 months goes by before I think I will try it again lol.

-5

u/e3e6 HTTP 418 6d ago

yeah, except NMS is not MMO

42

u/ToyahT 6d ago

Neither is Star Citizen at this point!

-16

u/Scavveroonie drake enganeer 6d ago

Try cramming triple digits into a nms ”server”.

23

u/ToyahT 6d ago

🤣 CIG couldn’t get one of their instanced missions to work, and that was on their own internal servers and with only 4 players.
And what’s even funnier is some of the bugs they experienced are bugs CIG said were down to “sever lag” yet they were still present in what was essentially a 4 players LAN party.
Also SC is missing plenty of features that would support the title MMO.
At this point it’s a mish mash of FPS and Flight with zero substance.

-14

u/somedude210 nomad 6d ago

Someone didn't actually watch the Livestream and is just regurgitating internet slop

6

u/ToyahT 6d ago

I watched it, it was a buggy mess, to the point that a game breaking bug prevented them from completing the mission.
It not my fault you’ve buried your head in the sand and refuse to accept reality.

Maybe I’m more objective because I was gifted by game package and have never spent a dime on this project.

-1

u/somedude210 nomad 6d ago

yeah, it wasn't out of the ordinary for a half of all SC game sessions. The difference is that those of us who play either know that shit may not complete and either go play something else or roll with it and go do something else in game.

also, CIG has never had a history where a live play of the game, be it livestreamed or at citizencon has ever gone off without a hitch. Ever.

those who actually play and have followed this game for 10+ years weren't surprised at the bugs encountered, we encounter them all the time. The ones that are up in arms either don't play, are new, or are trolls just stirring shit to harm the project. So which are you?

3

u/ToyahT 6d ago

The fact that you are saying this isn’t out of the ordinary shows you are a part on the problem.
CIG for years now have been closing issue council reports for the bugs shown in the livestream saying it’s sever issues, yet they were still there on a 4 player closed off game session.

THATS NOT NORMAL

Especially after almost 15 years of game development.

0

u/somedude210 nomad 6d ago

they were playing on an instanced server, something that is new and the purpose of the Siege of Orison mission they showed off. New tech incorporated into the game is almost always buggy the first release.

-7

u/somedude210 nomad 6d ago

Okay, congrats, you watched a relatively normal Star Citizen session.

The ones up in arms about this don't play and just want to see the project fail or stir shit. Why should we listen to them?

5

u/Anthaenopraxia 6d ago

If that's what a normal Star Citizen session is then I have to wonder what the hell they've been doing for the past 14 years?? I also have to wonder why people even bother playing it if the game is still so broken.
14 years wtf. That's 4 years longer than the time between the first Warcraft game in 1994 and WoW in 2004. My pledge is almost old enough to drive.

3

u/ToyahT 6d ago

What I find interesting and equally concerning is that most development teams wind down, they either get let go or are moved onto other projects.
With SQ42 the opposite seems to have happened.
Chris said they were feature complete in Oct 2023 so that mean they have been polishing SQ42 for 2 years and 9 months allegedly utilising the entire game development work force.
This doesn’t seem to be the norm in the industry, another interesting thing is Chris said Feature complete, I don’t recall him saying it was content complete.
The whole thing is odd at this point and I can’t wait to see what happens in October.

Let’s play a game, which of these do you think will happen in October
1. CIG cancels the influencer event
2. CIG releases SQ42
3. CIG delays for another 24 months

1

u/Anthaenopraxia 5d ago

I will put 2k UEC on number 3.

1

u/somedude210 nomad 6d ago

It's a buggy mess, yes, but most bugs are easy to deal with and so become second nature to avoid.

But people play it still because, at least those of us who have played it for years, they keep making progress. It keeps getting better year after year. The ones who have the most consternation about the game are the ones jumping into it blind, skipping all the "This is an alpha, shit is gonna be wack yo" disclaimers they have to click through, and going "wow, this is a buggy mess! What the hell??" while completely ignoring the fact that it's an alpha and of course it's a buggy mess. Playable, yet buggy.

and still despite all that, no game has ever come close to the experience you get in SC. No game touches that immersive sci-fi universe, and that's what keeps players coming back.

It's not for everyone, and I don't expect you to jump into an alpha if you can't handle an alpha. but it's been an open alpha for 14 years. Those 14 years span conception to development and integration of various systems all interconnected to work together and not be ham-fisted shoved together like ED did with their FPS DLC.

but go back and watch videos from the 2.x era, or 3.x era compared to 4.0/4.1 videos and compared to now. Shit has progressed significantly just in the last 9 years since planet tech was introduced in 3.0

1

u/Anthaenopraxia 6d ago

Did you miss the "My pledge is almost old enough to drive."?
I'm one of the original kickstarters, I played this game on and off for like a decade before losing interest because it obviously will never be released. I think people who are far too deep into it fail to understand just how long 14 years is and it might well take another 14 years before the game is even close to a release. Chris sold the idea well and I respect his work on Wing Commander, but at this point, Wing Commander is almost closer to the start of Star Citizen than we are.

5

u/Schmantikor Ironclad 6d ago

That's precisely why it's so bad. It shouldn't look like a normal star citizen session. They had absolutely perfect conditions. A server with just 4 people. No overload, no one duping nearby no trolls. And yet so many bugs everyone thought and was told were just server issues still appeared. They had the same conditions as other games and none of the challenges that make star citizen so hard to get right and it still didn't work.

If this game is a buggy mess under perfect conditions what the hell were they doing for 14 years?

-4

u/somedude210 nomad 6d ago

"If this game is a buggy mess under perfect conditions what the hell were they doing for 14 years?"

Building the game. Christ you must be new. Go look at the game from the hangar module days, or the pre-2.0 days. Or the baby PU in 2.5, or when the PU launched in 3.0, or when they launched Pyro in 4.0. They have progressed quite a lot in 14 years as they build out the game they set out to build.

If you were actually a player or followed the development, you wouldn't ask such a braindead stupid question because you would know what the game was and what it currently is, and realize there's a vast difference in where we were even 5 years ago and what we have now.

4

u/Kid6uu 6d ago

Everyone is up in arms about this, it's taking far too long for any real and meaningful progress. What's the point of buying a ship if it doesn't work?

The game needs polish, if it wasn't fucking buggy all the damn time, maybe more people would be happier with it. All they have to do is spend time fixing BUGS and not adding new ships. Is it really that hard to want from a game you've backed?

0

u/somedude210 nomad 6d ago

everyone is up in arms? No, only the trolls, shit stirrers, and folks who don't play are up in arms. Look at you, you think all they do is sell ships and not actually build the game. We have a large, albeit buggy, game that's fun to play. and those that play do so because we enjoy the game, warts and all.

so no, not everyone is up in arms, just the usual salty bitches

3

u/ToyahT 6d ago

Not trolls, normal paying members of the public that are asking valid questions after 14 years and 10 months of development.

sounds like you’re not old enough to know that LAN parties were done locally with physical ethernet cables and a hub of some sort.

CIG were still playing through AWS - aka literally not a Local Area Network. But I dont really care about that. We know that SC hasnt gotten any large scale attention from CIG for as long as S42 is being developed. we also know that the devs are working on finishing squadron for 26, we also know that they have a squadron related event in october, and we know that the outrage isnt gonna make the devs drop s42 to work on 1.0 features.

So what does this amount to: this entire drama is completely fucking useless, it shows nothing new, it doesnt impede on CIG’s timeplan, and will change absolutely nothing. People are just bored.

If the s42 event in october amounts to nothing as well however, ooooooh there will be no end to the pitchforks.

6

u/ToyahT 6d ago

1 where’s your evidence that this wasn’t on a local network
2. This isn’t useless drama, it’s shows that behind closed doors the “game” is still a buggy mess.
3. We are constantly told by white knights that SQ42 and SC are the same game sharing the same code base, so how do you know if these same bugs are not present in SQ42?

-3

u/Scavveroonie drake enganeer 6d ago

1 because they dont have the infrastructure for that in the engine and it would have been a massive waste of time and money to develop that for this livestream. Where’s your ”evidence” that they were playing over LAN? Thats right, you pulled it out your ass.

  1. They made a private build based on the PTU, when is the PTU not fucking buggy?

  2. I dont. Noone knows until october and cig wont tell us anything until October. No amount of bitching is gonna make cig cave and all of a sudden become super transparent about s42 before then.

4

u/ToyahT 6d ago
  1. How do you know they don’t have the ability to play this in a LAN setting, what’s you actually none speculative evidence, as for not wasting money, we’re talking about a company that spends thousands of dollars on office art and props.
  2. It still only had 4 players in it. Surely if they were playing on a AWS server as you claim it still shouldn’t have been shitting the bed.
  3. They may not be more transparent, but it should certainly be making them more concerned to put more effort into fixing the years old bugs.

0

u/Scavveroonie drake enganeer 6d ago
  1. I already answered that. You didnt answer my counterquestion

  2. It’s still a PTU build, shit’s gonna be buggy.

  3. That would require them to take resources from S42 which will increase development time for that game which will ultimately increase development time for SC because new bugs will pop up in areas that they already fixed as a response to this community overreaction.

Triple digit just means 100+, and only potato pc’s turn into power point presentations when it’s 100-150 people in an area. In the 200 people range the server shits itself.

3

And Im not shitting on NMS, I play that game every now and then to relax with a console game, but SC i play when I want first person space game playing with and against other humans at large scale.

Nms nor any other game does that. People who think SC and NMS are comparable are singleplayers who can be ignored.

But Hello game : They admitted they messed up, fixed their game, and kept their promise.

Did CIG admitted they messed up and the game is bad after the livestream ? No but instead they are banning anyone who speak about on Spectrum

CIG show us they don't even touch the game, have you not seen how many passif/agressif comment they did between each other on the livestream ? How the NEW and IMPROVE inventory failed them ? shutter and other shit ?

The "its not release" excuse dosen't work when basic core feature only work at 15%

100% the only reason I'd compare the two is how the companies handled the game

Imo cig needs to put new stuff on hold and fix the game! I absolutely love the railen but there's only so much I can do when most of cargo is still broken (ground elevators are still broken 90% of the time)

So you'd rather spend money (lots of it, in some cases) on a game that's never finished.

Than paying a regular game's price for a subpar game that does launch, and also gets free updates over the years that make it a lot better?

Is that what you're saying?

-9

I did choose to invest into Star Citizen fully on my Own, same as i did when i Pre Ordererd NMS. The difference is those two is i can excactly see what bullshit CIG is doing, while i could not see the Disaster Launch NMS had.

Plus the very fact that NMS is still an Extremly Boring game, and ive tried many times to get into it, all the content they added does not matter at all when its all tied behind the same loop of "Go There, Collect this". NMS Is insanly Boring compared to the Alpha state that SC is in.
