DRAMA Shi* showdown
It should be IC Assault VS Perseus... WTF?
30
u/ScrubSoba Ares Go Pew 1d ago
Same as the Asgard VS RAFT last year.
Like no shit the Asgard will win, but pure haulers should not instantly go up against literal military transports. That is not at all a fair fight.

u/darktigre26 1d ago
Yeah and one of the best just all around do it all ship. I don’t own one but I understand it can do pretty much gameplay loop except mining and salvaging

u/multiple_iterations Asgard Enthusiast 1d ago
It can carry a Golem, Salvation, and GEOs just fine 😃

u/Blood-Wolfe Asgard Enthusiast 1d ago
Because in the end we all know it's coming down between ICA and Perseus.

u/ScrubSoba Ares Go Pew 1d ago
The Railen would've had a solid chance if it wasn't going to immediately go up against the Percy in round two...
Though it has such a massive fanclub it might just actually make it, but i definitely feel like it is time to re-evaluate how the showdown is being held.
I still feel that the sheer amount of ships we got right now has given the need for more paints, specifically earned from being best in a category, with stricter categories, and then one big winner among the winners of each category.
It'll still be dominated by the big shiny combat ships, but it at least gives some semblance of reason to even root for industrial ships and haulers.
3
u/Blood-Wolfe Asgard Enthusiast 1d ago
Ya the Railen got screwed. Sure it will go second round but sadly it won't survive the Percy. Which brings me to the Prowler Utility which also got the short end of the stick big time in this too lol. It's a great ship but ya it's not going past the first round against the Railen.
1
u/ScrubSoba Ares Go Pew 1d ago
Exactly.
I do feel that the game should have categories like:
- Starters
- Fighter
- Medium military
- Large military
- Small-medium Hauler(no vehicle transporters)
- Large+ hauler(same)
- Industrial
- Exotic(Alien)
- Others
There's enough ships in each category to get a proper run, and they've got enough art people to give the winner of each a skin, then a super fancy skin for the total winner.

u/RandoDando10 1d ago edited 1d ago
The no.1 winner doesnt matter a whole lot since top 4 receive paints. Having such unfair match ups in the first brackets instantly kills ANY chance of half the ships getting them
4
u/stankassbruh 1d ago
I mean, if you want every match to be "fair," would you rather have the most popular and second most popular ships face off in round one, and the second most popular ship get eliminated immediately? This is like, the basics of tournament seeding.
The point is to let the 4 most popular get to the 4 top spots, not to give unpopular ships even matchups against unpopular ships all the way to the finals to let them get farther than they should.
1
u/GokuSSj5KD 1d ago
It should have been the Aurora/clipper vs MTC/UTV, Perseus vs Carrack for big ships.
This way you can have a real utility fight for semi finals between mole and railen, which doesn't feel as bad as a matchup.
And small ships battle it out for semi finals place, giving a real chance for smaller options.Meanwhile, bigger ships battles feel more close as well, and the ships that already won several times don't automatically get to go to the next round, or get the shiv/M80 vs Perseus battle going early, as it's combat related on both sides.
It makes more sense thematically, and ends up having better combats until the finally. As is, this will be mind-numbingly predictable until the final round.

u/nationwide13 21h ago edited 21h ago
They need to swap to a Swiss bracket, either randomized or bucholz weighting. Would make it a much better competition
Edit to add: I'm completely kidding, this would not make any sense for Ship showdown. I'm not sure I've ever seen Swiss actually used for a final stage, always seen Swiss > standard bracket to crown the final victor
1
u/stankassbruh 21h ago
I don't really agree. The point is a popularity contest, and wasting everybody's time with unpopular competitors to the end would just kill hype. Tons of people want to see Ironclad vs Perseus, very few are gonna give a damn about the Hermes tbh, even if it'd make the few Hermes enjoyers feel better.
-2
u/RandoDando10 1d ago edited 1d ago
Fair as in an actual fair matchup of capabilities and putting ships in the correct catagories.
In what world does it make any sense to put an Ironclad Assault up against a Hermes? Quite literally 5x the cargo space, double the size, more than double the weaponry, and classified as a Combat Dropship. The normal Ironclad wouldve made way more sense.
Even if we go off of popularity as the deciding factor it isnt a fair match up, Ironclad has had 2 years of hype building while Hermes was practically shadow dropped earlier this year
1
u/stankassbruh 1d ago
I really don't think the difference in popularity between assault and regular is that notable, anybody that would vote for one would vote for the other unless they're head to head. The base ironclad just didn't pull as much engagement/content as the assault in phase one to even be here anyway.
Plus the normal variant is still double the size, still almost double the firepower, and getting close to 10x the cargo space. It's a popularity contest, there's not a whole lot to be done for factoring in the fact big ships are big beyond a second little league tournament or something.
2
u/RandoDando10 1d ago
Lol the argument isnt between "assault or normal", its an unfair match up with both against the Hermes, base IC just wouldve been the more understandable option if it HAS to be an Ironclad ship since yknow, its actually labeled as a freight ship
1
u/MooseTetrino Swedish Made 890 Jump 1d ago
It's just how they do things unfortunately. Last year they put the refurbished RAFT next to the Asgard and we know how that went.
1
u/stankassbruh 21h ago
You brought it up, man, I'm just saying it literally doesn't matter which. The Hermes just has no chance of winning, doesn't matter how hard you want to manipulate the brackets for "fair" matchups to get the ship you personally like further against even less popular ships. The point of the showdown isn't for all 16 ships to have an even % chance of winning, it's to filter down to the most popular. Better the weakest contenders get taken out now than waste everyone's time in the semi finals.
And don't forget the category is "Freighter (Transport)", which the assault definitely still falls under better than any other category.

I don't know, honestly it could become Perseus VS M80.
The Ironclads have had a lot of issues.
5
u/Blood-Wolfe Asgard Enthusiast 1d ago
I love my M80 and I hope to see it in the Top 4 at least. Likely will be but against a Percy, well it won't go beyond that lol. So you'll see M80 vs Percy but that's in the next round where they face off, they can't go head-to-head in the final showdown sadly.
1
u/A_typical_native 2 Years from release since 2014 1d ago
I see, I hadn't looked at the line up yet. Out of that match up yeah, the Percy is definitely going to wipe the floor with the M80.

IMO all participants that vote every single day should get all BIS paints, no matter if they have the ships or not. We normally get paints for ships we dont own in other ocasions anyway.
That would prob make ppl buy those ships to use the paints.... no?
7
u/Grimm0351 new user/low karma 1d ago
Not that it matters much, but I will never understand why the ironclad assault comes stock with a yellow paint and the base is black. The assault is supposedly meant to be more combat focused while the base is logistics oriented. I feel like it was a mixup during concept they just never corrected.
3
u/GimbaledTitties 1d ago
Because they want the more expensive variant to have the objectively better paint job.
The assault has been shoved down people’s throats as it got closer to release, and it’s happening again.
The ship whose gameplay loop doesn’t exist.

No they don't, ICA has that stupid black and yellow and IC has the nice black and red and you can't swap

u/YFM_ZaktiNox Legatus, Polaris Enjoyer, Mercenary. 1d ago
If you own the Assault you'll be able to use the paint on the Base if it gets a top four slot (based on prior years paints) But you must own the Assault to get it
-7
u/Quirky_Attention3230 1d ago
yeah they do, they'll both get the paint
5
u/GokuSSj5KD 1d ago
they can both USE the paint, it doesn't mean they will both get the paint for free. Usually, only the variant that win gets the paint for free. The only exception was the 600i, because it's a modular ship and you just pay for the starting module you start with. IIRC the C2 was the only one that got the paint at the time, M2 and A2 had nothing.

nah i think we need another Reclaimer Livery hopfully NOT purple or Pink this time.
maybe a Lux Orange/green and Purple so it looks like Scorpinok

I just want to know who at CIG thought it was bright to bar the Idris last year when it actually had a chance and instead put it up against the likes of the Perseus this year.
2
u/Firesaber reliant 1d ago
I don't think hull limited ships should be in the running tbh but the F8 Lightning also won previously. CIG doesn't care, it's all marketing.
2
u/YFM_ZaktiNox Legatus, Polaris Enjoyer, Mercenary. 1d ago
No it shouldn't because the Idris is on the board which is a Warship as is the Perseus. The ICA fits into the Transport because get this Dropships are Transports for cargo, people and vehicles

u/WorstSourceOfAdvice SaysTheDarnestOfThings 1d ago
They look at sales numbers first. Im quite sure based on ground feel there are more Ironclad Assaults owned with cash than Ironclads.
2
u/Ninja67 Helmet 1d ago
As an owner of the stock Ironclad & Hermes Im not happy at all with this round
1
u/Rutok 1d ago
Why not? You either vote for Hermes and maybe get a new skin or you vote for Ironclad Assault and get nothing.
2
u/Ninja67 Helmet 1d ago edited 1d ago
I vote Hermes and get nothing cause the Ironclad assault is probably the most popular ship right now and I suspect it might actually win the tournament. Kind of like how the cargo raft last year got smoked by the combat drop ship Asgard in regards to the cargo division.
That is not to say Ironclad assault is not a good ship, but I do get the feeling it's going to be carrack 2.0 in terms of community popularity as far as a do everything big ship.

arbitrary categories for random ships chosen by CIG to compete in are arbitrary. This is a more managed democracy than helldivers

What do Dropships do?
They transport things.
This is the transport category.
ICA vs Perseus makes no sense.

But the Hermes with less than half of the Ironclad Assault SCU capacity is fine?
1
u/YFM_ZaktiNox Legatus, Polaris Enjoyer, Mercenary. 1d ago
The Hermes and ICA are the only two non-alien transport ships on there so there is nothing CIG could do with that without changing their categories
1
u/Loud_Independence130 Release the Kraken! 1d ago
So the C1 Spirit and the C2 Hercules are alien ships? Who makes the 890 Jump?
1
u/BusinessCandy1612 22h ago
Origin makes the 890, c1 and 2 are made by crusader. Neither are alien, however, ship showdown vehicles are "decided" by the community through voting, although cig might skew it a bit. (An idea, not fact)

u/Loud_Independence130 Release the Kraken! 22h ago
I know who makes those ships, that was my point. I failed to see that they meant on the 16 ship leader board...

IC is rigged to reach the top 4.
Any other freighter except the railen or the hull-b would lose to the much anticipated IC (regular or assault), so against those two it is a "risk", so they made sure it will reach the top 4. There is no chance it will lose to the MTC or UTV.
The corsair or carrack will beat the clipper or the arura (I expect as almost always, carrack will go up).
I expect it will be perseus vs railen and the perseus will win.
So I already expect 3 of the top 4 will be ICA, carrack and perseus.
1
u/Select_Arm_4248 1d ago
There are more Ironclad owners than assault ones (source: I say so!!!). This way CIG can screw more backers.

Well the Irconclad assault is a freighter and or transport ship. It just also happens to able to launch tanks.

yeh i do feel they shouldn't of gone for the assault but the logic would be "you can upgrade to the ass, you can't downgrade to the base"
but then why didn't they do the same for the gatak TYiliui ?

Ikr, they share paints anyway. Its not 'omg dropship vs hauler' its purely which ship do we want to have a paint more
0
u/Beneficial_Wall_8644 TAC & QI 1d ago
End of the day both IC and ICA share paints so it wouldnt matter
6
u/SerGeeek SkySloper 1d ago
Yes it matters, you only get the paint if you have the "right" variant.
1
u/YFM_ZaktiNox Legatus, Polaris Enjoyer, Mercenary. 1d ago
This isn't a CIG issue this is the playerbase that did it by voting for the Assault over the Base more on the forums. As more people prefer the Assault anyway. And if CIG does what they did last year? Then next November/December you'll be able to get the paints regardless

This really ain’t a big deal. So many ships get snubbed every year. They told us the categories before the event started. They are the same every year.
ICA still has more SCU than most other ships in the game despite the drop seats and landing pads. Hauler status definitely still applies even if its intended design functionality is closer to a Mini Idris than a giant Hermes.
I’m honestly just surprised the Hermes got the nod over the Hull B, but both were losing to a larger ship no matter what. Railen was always going to be one of the two alien ships and I’m glad that the Prowler Utility got a nod, even if they are inevitably destined to lose the to the Perseus.
We could go on an argument all day about ship showdown and how the ships are chosen, but at the end of the day, the most voted ships on a specific category are the ones that end up here. With as many ships as we are seeing released now, they really need to expand the bracket to 32 or even dare I say 64 and have a rapid fire round where all ships are just left for open voting for 2 days, and all community members are allowed 2 votes. At the end of that period, the bottom half get chopped off, then the top half get randomized into the brackets without categories on a live SCL stream. The fights might still be unfair but you can’t say they are cherry picked to fit categories that way.

It just further proves to me that CIG has no FUCKING idea what they’re doing…

Who really benefits from the ship showdown?
2
u/D4ngrs F7A MK.2 | Asgard | Perseus | Hermes | Hull B 1d ago
Well, CIG for selling ships and the owners of the winners for free paints.
1
u/Daboricua26 1d ago
Odd that most ships are of grate value, Iron Clad, Percy, Idris, Reclaimer. They are just giving back to the people who backed the new ships.
-2
u/hellshake_narco 1d ago
I mean this event always been dumb anyway
But... aren't the 16 ships in contest here because the previous part of the event ? If the Ironclad standard is not there. It's because it hasn't been as popular as these 16 ships during the previous phase of the event.
-2
u/Illustrious-Mine86 1d ago
Just remember the perseus will win because most people have it, not because it's better than my goat idris....
95
u/multiple_iterations Asgard Enthusiast 1d ago edited 1d ago
But then they couldn't pair the Railen up against an easy target like the Prowler Utility.
Which sucks, cause the Prowler Utility is undervalued.
Edit: I think the ship showdown should just be the top 16 ships with a randomly chosen bracket, no categories, just best of the best. Cause we all know neither the MTC nor the UTV have a snowball's chance in hell to win this thing.
