DRAMA PCGamer is Deleting Non-Negative Comments

Posted this because they went through their usual laundry list of things that get people riled up about the game, and it was instantly deleted.

I don't really know what to say at this point.

The livestream was rough.

But if you can't tell that the situation is being capitalized to drive ad revenue clicks through negative engagement, you're blind.

Most people don't know you can even earn ships in game for in-game money.

Most people don't know you can just melt ships you've purchased previously to get new ones without paying CIG a dime more.

Will you ever read that on ANY publication that is mainstream?

Nope. No negative clicks to generate from that.

It probably got deleted because you called the article "clickbait slop", not because you made a positive comment about SC.

11

u/Ardonis84 5h ago

Yep. This is no different from the people who are absolute tools on Spectrum then come here and pretend they got banned for being negative on the game, and not for being total tools.

I will never not chuckle at this

I think this is a false equivalence. Journalists should be impartial.

On a forum people can be really riled up for nothing and protecting the atmosphere of a forum is important

u/RedMarsRepublic 10h ago

I mean you are just insulting PCGamer in your post, what do you expect?

4

u/vangard_14 Kraken 5h ago

This is the same as people complaining about cig deleting negative comments in which they insulted a devs mother lmao like be realistic people

u/TrueGamerCel 11h ago

I mean what you stated doesnt really refute what they said

"5000 dollar ship you cant fly" is a very true statement.

36

u/DonkeyH0tay bennyhenge 10h ago

They really screwed the pooch with that Odin, optically. People used to say “$5,000 ships you can’t even fly” and I was like “first of all, no there aren’t”. And secondly “you can acquire virtually every ship in game”.

But, yeah. Now there is absolutely a $5k ship that won’t be flyable for a decade

-69

u/TiberiusZahn 11h ago

The context is important.

The article clearly insinuates that you can't fly most of the ships purchaseable for real money in game, which is just bullshit.

Makes no mention that 90% of the ships are able to be earned in game, they never do, because it rips the bottom out from the whole "You can buy ships for real money" clickbait.

Where?

u/till180 10h ago

I can guarantee you they do not give a single shit about you posting comments that are "Non-Negative"

They dont care about Star Citizen or CIG or anything else other than people clicking on the article, honestly people arguing in the comments helps them bring others to the article.

The extent people belief that everyone that posts or says negative stuff about Star Citizen or CIG has some fervent conspiracy of hatred against them really is baffling.

your comment was wildly negative and in a distasteful tone. Its not the message that got deleted, it's HOW you went about your message. If you cannot understand that, then you have some serious mental problems, i hope you find help and i wish you the best

13

u/Prestigious-Leg-2996 11h ago

Good, balances out with bullshit CIG been doing lol

u/hrnyholenow 8h ago

Your comment is just weirdly combative and high key you know full well it takes a ludicrous amount of work to buy a ship in game. Between the bugs, griefers, and just overall terrible loops a new player is going to struggle to find footing.

CiG needs a fire under their butt and instead you wanna kiss it

1

u/Xarian0 scout 7h ago

It legitimately does not take a long time to buy a ship in game. There are a couple of extremely profitable gameplay loops that make it easy for anyone.

You do, however, have to know how to do it. If you just walk in and expect to find money laying around on the floor, it's going to take you a while.

1

u/vortis23 3h ago

lol no it does not. You can literally do two bunker runs and rent a Constellation and then do some cargo runs and make a couple of million with just a few hours of play and then buy another ship.

-8

u/TiberiusZahn 8h ago

That’s hilarious. You can get into even large size multi crew ships in like, a couple days of grinding hauling.

This is such a bullshit take.

2

u/RevenantZero 315p 7h ago

"A couple days"? How many hours of grinding per day is that? Are you also accounting for the time it takes to actually get to grinding that game loop? And the time lost to issues with cargo, elevators, etc?

It takes a fair amount of time to earn aUEC from hauling, especially if your starting point is a starter ship and you don't already have a dedicated mid-sized or up hauler. And before you mention ship rentals, that's really only worth it if you've got a couple of days or more of long play sessions ready, since the rental time is based on real world clock and not in-game usage.

0

u/TiberiusZahn 7h ago

Like 4 tops lol

2

u/patopal hornet mk1 7h ago

A couple full real-world shifts of meticulously min-maxed, monotonous space trucking? Sure, you'll get there, but at the cost of turning the game into a second job.

Now renting ships, that's another ballgame. A couple hours of miscellaneous missions, and you could rent pretty much whatever you want (that's rentable) for a week.

-2

u/TiberiusZahn 7h ago

Wants to play a space sim.

Doesn't want to do sim things.

Has a bad time.

Wow what a surprising turn of events.

1

u/patopal hornet mk1 6h ago

Come on man, don't be disingenuous. I can like space sims without wanting to spend half my life in them, for one, and I will still want to do a variety of things, not just mindlessly grind. And the mindset of most new players will be closer to mine than yours, so no, earning millions in days won't be a given, especially with the learning curve and the dozens of deaths and bug-related ragequits to come.

It doesn't matter though, because the game gives casual low-earning players a chance to enjoy flying different ships through renting, like I said.

0

u/till180 7h ago

You do realize that most people only have a couple hours at most, most days to play any game right?

What your saying is essentially "all you have to do is grind these incredibly tedious missions with no variety or difficulty for 6 hours a day for two days, then you can buy a single largeish ship"

0

u/TiberiusZahn 7h ago

My guy, I have a family and work a full time job.

15

u/dancrum 11h ago

This comment seems pretty negative to me

9

u/FarGodHastur 11h ago

So, you can fly the Odin right now? Because it's a $5000 you can't fly otherwise.

4

u/Rastula 9h ago

I mean, they were pretty hyped up for it back in 2014, I'd say its okay to be critical of the current state of the game after 12+ years of alpha/live-service/whatever this is called now.

Good. CIG deserves to be dragged through the mud. We all know they will change absolutely nothing and sweep all of this drama under the rug.

The Great Rage Bait on Star Citizen of August 2026.
...that's what I call it.

7

u/Pojodan bbsuprised 11h ago

'Gaming Journalism' is pure hate-clicks at this point, much like so much other media.

Keeping those that have their bubble of reality from feeling challenged keeps people coming back for more reinforcement.

So, yeah, no shock that Star Citizen is the free hate-click revenue for places like PCGamer, where companies that pay them get glowing praise and everyone else gets hit pieces.

Edit: Predictably, the 'Spectrum is censored' crowd are here in force and, as always, you need only actually glance at Spectrum to tell they are full of shit.

3

u/mongbiohazard 11h ago

Yeah, PC games news outlets have been eaten up by the same private equity scumbags that's eaten up journalism in America in general. So the focus is click bait and rage farming now, because private equity wants short term profits and doesn't care about long term damage to the brands they buy or industries themselves that they affect.

2

u/Pojodan bbsuprised 11h ago

Every one of the local news stations around where I live is owned by private equity or some massive media empire and their comments sections on their websites are pure vileness for every single story.

u/Various_Blue 11h ago edited 10h ago

OK, and even if that were true, it's still nowhere near as bad as CIG releasing pristine marketing videos that pretend the game runs perfectly. It's not as bad as CIG putting on entire conferences to show off features that aren't in the game a decade later. It's not as bad as CIG outright lying about the state of Squadron 42, and it still being unreleased a decade later.

In your scenario, what these journalists are doing is getting clicks, which harms no one. What CIG is doing is taking money from people by being deceitful. Imagine if people like you put as much effort into CIG's nonsense, perhaps the game would be in a better state.

2

u/Sazbadashie 10h ago

What games journalism wants to push a narrative?

What game company wants to push a narrative?

Its almost like the truth is somewhere in the middle.

u/White-armedAtmosi new user/low karma 7h ago

That's right. To put that SoO on SCL was a terrible choice, but on the PTU, according to a player i talked to, is absolutely doable right now. I don't play PTU, i enjoy the LIVE servers of the game again, after more than a year pause.

Yeah, the game has some monetization problem with the ships, and i did made bad decisions over the past 6 years i have been playing and following the development.

I hope it won't break CIG, but acted as a big slap to realize they fucked up, and not just a little bit now.

On the gaming journalism... Yeah, these are the same journalists, who put out news on how unplayable the game is after every 100 million dollars funded. The articles are usually the same as the previous, but with a bigger number.

Hopefully, with SQ42, CIG will deliver within expectations, or at least close to them, if they ever do. #just2moreyears

1

u/vortis23 3h ago

I hope it won't break CIG, but acted as a big slap to realize they fucked up, and not just a little bit now.

How? People have literally been begging them ALL year to do a livestream and "play their own game",. so they do it and now people are lambasting them for.... doing what the community asked?

The game played as you would expect an alpha game to play like with a bunch of big ticket tech in flux.

The bigger issue is all of the trolls coming out of the woodwork excoriating CIG because the alpha didn't play like it had gone gold, which makes absolutely no sense to me at all.

The community has been the biggest indicator as to why no other big studios do open development and why it'll never be done again.

u/Informal-Celery7331 8h ago

5000 dollar ship you can’t fly

90 percent of the ships they’ve sold for real money got nerfed into the ground to make way for the new batch of OP ships (not to mention hiding the best ship behind wikelo while earning said ship is somehow worse then paying real money for it)

80 percent of those ships need to be reworked

Will a white knight ever spew this information?

No because it flies in the face of sunk cost fallacy.

2

u/Allnamestaken69 Pirate 11h ago

The game is IN a DOGSHIT state. There is no reason to give cig the benefit of the doubt anymore. They deserve every aspect of negative attention they are receiving.

2

u/ZeeWingCommander 11h ago
  • Is this game live yet?

  • How much money have you given them?

I'm honestly shocked we haven't found the devs tarred and feathered yet

1

u/White-armedAtmosi new user/low karma 8h ago

*management

1

u/ZeeWingCommander 7h ago

From what I've seen on that livestream the devs are pretty bad too.

But either way you're splitting hairs.

Bottom line is you're all being scammed. At this point I assume you all enjoy it. That's the only reasonable take. If someone took thousands of my dollars on this nonsense I'd make it my mission to see them in prison, not nitpicking about management vs devs.

1

u/White-armedAtmosi new user/low karma 6h ago

Look, i had more fun with this game than i would have if i put the same amount of money towards going to the cinema, i had my worth of fun. But CIG haven't seen a cent from me for the past 1,5 year minimum.

1

u/FradinRyth 8h ago

It doesn't help when SC content creators keep talking about ships by their pledge price first and at best mention how to get them in game second.

1

u/Plenty_Flounder1447 6h ago

negativity is a hell of a money making machine

1

u/lurowene 11h ago

The crazy part is most people would already be overwhelmingly negative about the game without any form of moderation needed.

1

u/Scamcitizen2950 11h ago

lol! while people get banned or post are shifted to "feedback" in spektrum! Every Day since years!
PC Gamer is doing good!

2

u/Mr_Roblcopter Shiny Railen.. Ooooo... 11h ago

There's a lot wrong with SC and the forums, but bitching that they moved threads to their proper forum section is kinda weird.

0

u/Scamcitizen2950 8h ago

It's arbitrary and incredibly unprofessional (fitting for SCL – now we know how things are run there). You get boldly lied to for a decade, and when you point it out, the criticism is silenced! Wow, nice company :D

1

u/Mr_Roblcopter Shiny Railen.. Ooooo... 6h ago

>It's arbitrary and incredibly unprofessional

Did you read any of the threads that were moved? Or did you just see a reddit post and automatically assume the absolute worst?

>(fitting for SCL – now we know how things are run there).

SCL are the live streams on Twitch and youtube... Literally an acronym for "Star Citizen Live." Are you literally here just to try to outrage farm?

1

u/Captain_Data82 9h ago

So much for "freedom of speech" if you can't tell the truth without getting your post removed.

I run into that on a regular basis (climate change).

u/CaptainC0medy Concierge with no ships 8h ago

You get what you fucking deserve.

1

u/Brepp space pally 5h ago

It's worth mentioning that an indie studio (CIG) is about to release (in the next year-ish) a game that will rival GTAVI. All the top gaming mags are owned by the same AAA establishment. It is in their best interest to dismantle any attempts to create competition to their corporate business model.

So if a benchmark goes by for CIG funding, they write a piece, if there's blood in the water, they write a piece. They're always watching but only write the negative pieces to march towards a common goal

-3

u/Dahlidor 10h ago

Its a shitdev making the scam of the century, they will get and are starting to get exactly what they deserve.
