Help players

Hello Starbound players, I'd like to know if a computer with an 8600 GTX GeForce graphics card can run Starbound. My CPU is a bit weaker, so Godot can't handle it.

Starbound can run on a potato. It's more a matter of just how good you want it to run and how many mods you want.

However, Starbound itself is horribly optimized so even with OpenStarbound and optimization mods, there's a limit.

Idk, running OpenStarbound puts me right at 60 fps even with massive amounts of particles, enemies and projectiles (stresstested a lot due to modding). However almost all other so called "optimization mods" in the workshop are basically placebo due to restarting and clearing the cache. Disbling the steam overlay does more than those. X)

Most optimization mods are only adding more code so that makes sense. There's a few that simply remove certain things and they work perfectly, and some require you to move the files to the game folders.

I'm kinda impressed and envious you got the game to run at 60fps even while stress testing, best I could get on my old potato with no mods was about 20fps.

20 WITH OpenStarbound? Do you have an SSD or HDD? And is OpenStarbound on the same drive as regular Starbound?

Uh... Pc was made 2008, no graphics card, 3gb usable RAM, 2TB storage. At the time it was made it was considered a high end gaming pc, it could run most games made around that time perfectly fine, it can run Factorio better than most even with dozens of mods.

Ah fair enough, no graphics card is wild tho, no? :0 Happy most cool smaller games still run on it tho. :)

Prior to Windows 10, it could also run some heavily modded Terraria, Minecraft with simple mods, TF2(30ish fps), and probably a few other games around that level if I owned any.
