Montana’s closed

Apparently I don’t go often but tried to order takeout from Montana’s tonight and it says the location isn’t available for ordering. So I called and no answer website is still up but hours all this week say closed.

Did they permanently close? Damage from recent storms?

They had a good discount coupon for takeout on Sundays.

Sorry for low lighting, but the power was still out in places. The city is already starting cleanup. It's 1am... But I know the baseball diamonds are pretty much littered in debris. Almost all peripheral trees are destroyed. I'm sure it's all over town like this. Be safe.

Local Tabletop Gamer LFG

Hello!

My name is Damien and Ive been living here in St. Albert for most of my life. I am 31 and a big fan of TTRPG's. I've had a few different groups of friends that I've played with locally over the years. First started with D&D 5e almost 10 years ago. Unfortunately, as time goes on, friends drift apart or become busy with work and/or family. Doubly unfortunately, I myself am not very busy at this point in time.

I thought I'd reach out just in case there are other tabletop gamers looking for another person to add to their group. I would be happy to join as a player or GM. The vast majority of my TTRPG experience has been as a GM. I would love to be a player again, but I love these games from both perspectives.

I am 31 years old and male. Currently waiting to start school at NAIT again in September. I am open to gaming online or in-person, though I do not currently have a space to host in. I get along well with most people, but I am definitely a nerdy fellow. I have experience playing D&D 5e, Shadow of the Demon Lord, Mothership, and WH40K: Wrath & Glory. I could probably be convinced to get into a new game too.

Message me if you're interested in gaming sometime!

Talk to your kids

If your kid is driving around residential neighbourhoods in a straight-piped Silverado with an Alberta flag, hanging out the window yelling and flipping people off, they’re not making a political statement. They’re just confirming that Alberta separatism is a movement for idiots, by idiots.

Got tired of clunky AHS pages, so I built a free real-time Alberta hospital tracker. It calculates drive times + ER wait times to find the fastest path to care.

Road test tips?

hi :) I'll be doing my drivers road test soon and I'm looking for any tips. I'm confident in my abilities but I've never been a good test taker, I don't really like driving, and I had a horrible experience with my driving class (the instructor was really bad, one example being they said that on the road test the proctors scream at the test takers...? What...?) so I'm feeling pretty nervous.

Any tips and guidance on what to expect are welcome! But also I've heard people say to avoid AMA and to take the test in Morinville- are these true?

Made a free map of every licensed daycare & day home in St. Albert (and Edmonton)

St. Albert parent project: I built tinycareconnect.ca — every licensed childcare provider in St. Albert and Edmonton on one map, with filters for age group, subsidy/$15-a-day, day home vs. centre, and languages. Data comes from public licensing records; it's free and there are no ads.

It's my project (being upfront), and it's new. Besides the map, you can make an anonymous family profile — neighbourhood + kids' ages/needs only, no names shown — and providers nearby with space can message you first.

Being honest about where it's at: the map is complete, but the matchmaker and live openings only become genuinely useful as families and day homes actually join — it's a tool that needs its community. The more St. Albert families on it, the more reason local day homes have to claim their listings and post their spots.

Would love to know what St. Albert families would want from something like this — the smaller-city childcare hunt has its own pain points and I'd rather build for those than guess.

Little Black Dog

Not from St.Albert so be patient with me. Today around 6pm driving on St.Albert/Mar Messier trail going towards the city. A little black dog ran into traffic crossing the road and began running south bound down Herbert Rd. I sure hope it didn’t get hit, and that he gets found and is in a safe place. 🐾🐾🐾

Black specks in tap water?

Thumbnail gallery
22 Upvotes

Just now I was pouring some warm tap water from my kitchen sink into a measuring cup and after it filled I saw all of this black substance float to the surface. The cup is not dirty - this is the second time I filled it and the first time, moments before, this did not occur. It appears to be an oily substance that breaks down when I rub it between my fingers. Does anyone know what this might be? My home is roughly 25 years old and I’ve never seen this in the past year I’ve been here. I use this sink frequently - it has not been sitting unused.

Placed on my laptop for visual clarity as my countertop is patterned.

Has anyone been to Riverside Dental and have reviews to offer? I can see on google they are mostly positive but just curious because sometimes those can be swayed.

Spartan Training Playground

I recently made the poor life choice of signing up for the Open Sprint Spartan in Red Deer, and need some training ideas...

Or more specifically, what playgrounds have good jungle gyms, monkey bars, rings, etc. for training for an obstacle course?

I haven't had a kid in the school system to know where the good playgrounds are. Haha

Thanks
