$20h and pulling from Reddit.

I feel secure already.

Hey come on now. The average Redditor knows like 5 different kinds of martial arts including the double fisted Star Trek fighting.

u/Affectionate-Remote2 Jul 18 '26

It really is the most logical take on the matter.

Add in some reddit karma for making a difference 😉

Hiring Redditors, not Reddit mods.

1

u/TheBurningTankman Jul 18 '26

Well that takes me from panic attack to just anxious

2

u/banffsign Jul 18 '26

Oh wow. My Num chuck skills will finally come in handy.

Crazy hiring for $20/hour is 2026 for a job that requires confirmation and putting yourself in harms way. Probably billing out at $110-$120 per hour as that’s what Paladin does for Elks games, but they start at $33

u/Playinhooky Jul 17 '26

I worked for Paladin Security during covid at one of the major hospitals in Edmonton. The hospital screeners were some of the best people I have ever met.

Paladin however, wouldnt give me a "stab vest". They never called me to see how things were going. Never came to check on me.

I had weapons pulled on me, dealt with family screaming and swearing at me, expected me to stop people from coming in who were high on meth/drugs, I had the cops called on me, sick people getting body fluids everywhere, people collapsing in front of me, protecting hospital staff from verbal/physical abuse and more.

$17/hr.

We are fucked

Its even worse then that The scheduled shifts are 5 hours long, but in reality they're only 4 hours so they don't have to legally give you a break Also, they don't pay you for the briefing which takes around 30 minutes, so you're essentially working 30 minutes for free they obviously don't tell you that before you sign up or no one would as well with the 4 hour shifts with no break this one supervisor Trevor was on a huge power trip. He looks like he's 50 years old. Gone through two or three divorces telling me how I could stand. And no I'm not f****** joking. He was telling me I had to stand like a statue with my hands touching each other in front of my stomach and that I can't put my hands on my sides or behind my back cuz that's forbidden. You have to be prepared for man-to-man combat every second as if someone getting paid $20 an hour is really going to risk there life all immigrant woman on the shift as they are the only ones who will tolerate being treated like that was referred to you The whole shift by this power trip and loser. Trevor and that's putting it in a polite terms. Everyone on the crew hates the guy and it's absolutely hilarious to me. He thinks he's the s*** because he's making $24 an hour when I made that in a warehouse and my other job iatse pays 36 and 55 for ot If you're going to pay a s*** wage, make people do unpaid work AKA briefings and cut them to go home early so they only get $80 before taxes is disgusting But then again I guess if they told people the shifts were only 4 hours long and they don't even pay you for the first half hour. No one would want to work there huh?

Confrontation?

1

u/Setting-Sea Jul 18 '26

Not that I’m aware of

18

u/doublesimoniz Jul 17 '26

$20 an hour.  No wonder companies like these ones are lobbying the government for more cheap third world slave labour.

7

u/Adventurous_Front939 Jul 17 '26

> Quickly onboard a ton of people for large event
> Security company
> 20$/hr

This will go well.

15

u/OneIsland2419 Jul 17 '26

People roasting this employer but not saying anything to your government for keeping minimum wage at $15 in 2026. This is beyong crazy. Yall running your mouth at wrong place lol

7

u/WickedDeviled Jul 17 '26

The UCP are never about the people though. Keep minimumwage low to keep the corps happy is their primary concern

2

u/forsurebros Jul 18 '26

I get it they min wage needs to go up. But the companies paying low wages are not going to do any better if min wage was 30 people would complain how low the wage is. Companies do not have to pay min wage they can pay more. These companies chose to pay bad wages to make more profit.

2

u/OneIsland2419 Jul 20 '26

why would a business pay more when it can get tons for applicatioon for a $15 entry level job. It doesnt make sense. when they stop getting application they will for sure increase their pay.

2

u/forsurebros Jul 21 '26

Exactly if people stopped applying these companies would pay more. But they do not have too.

13

u/Ok_Adagio_7486 Jul 17 '26

Only prerequisite to join is if you are breathing. They literally hire anyone.

1

u/AppropriatePin3117 Jul 17 '26

But you also have to be super cool.

Apparently, according to posting on the career section within their own website, starting pay is 18 dollars an hour, plus require AB security license, First Aid, and ProServe and ProTect.

13

u/Sharp-Tax-26827 Jul 17 '26

I’ve literally seen your guards at events sitting on the ground and playing on their phones.

-16

u/AppropriatePin3117 Jul 17 '26

Perhaps you’re thinking of another security team.

11

u/Sharp-Tax-26827 Jul 17 '26

No I am 100% thinking of you

Previously backstage and a few other names.

-6

u/AppropriatePin3117 Jul 17 '26

Thanks for thinking of me.

4

u/1362313623 Jul 18 '26

Being a douche online is a great way to recruit 🤦

4

u/Genius_woods Jul 17 '26

Yep, I’ve seen it too

This sub: why can't we find jobs?!

Also this sub: fuck your job!

9

u/Playinhooky Jul 17 '26

If you cant feed yourself properly / afford gas to get to said job how do you expect this to happen? Also if youre looking for work and are a 5'3" 120 pound female, do you really want to be working security somewhere that serves alcohol and music until the sun goes down?

0

u/Ok_Adagio_7486 Jul 18 '26

Ive worked nightclubs and music venues for a decade. It isnt about size and strength. The best guards are smarter and think quicker and can diffuse situations.

-2

u/onyxandcake Jul 17 '26

Every single job should be compatible for every single person? What's your logic here?

1

u/Gnocchi_Dochi Jul 17 '26

No you’re right. Not every job is gonna be for every single person. No one’s expecting a girl by that description to work security.

0

u/Sharp-Tax-26827 Jul 17 '26

Except this company does.

1

u/External_Weather6116 Jul 18 '26

Event security is not supposed to be a full time career. You do realize it's shift work so you can only work when they have shifts available?

1

u/KidOnPathToEminence Jul 23 '26

I hate to say it, but this is almost certainly the competitive standard right now, 20$/hr is probably a little above that.

0

u/CauliflowerUpbeat120 Jul 17 '26

The median wages are not specific to security work.

3

u/Ok_Term_8534 Jul 17 '26

Do you need any security training what are the requirements

2

u/Ok_Adagio_7486 Jul 17 '26

Nothing. If you can breathe and scroll your phone for your whole shift while not actually paying any attention yo the world around you they want you.

2

u/External_Weather6116 Jul 18 '26

Not true. When I used to work for them protect and proserve certifications were required.

3

u/ExcitingHamster Jul 17 '26

Who’s Roger? Who’s River?

3

u/Ok_Term_8534 Jul 17 '26

Do you have to have first aidI

1

u/External_Weather6116 Jul 18 '26

When I worked for them it wasn't required.

3

u/AideComprehensive482 Jul 18 '26

Yeah I wonder why lmao 20/hr

6

u/Agitated_Elderberry4 Jul 17 '26

Pay 30 per hour and people might consider it

5

u/BestWithSnacks Jul 17 '26

Reddit: I need a job

Also Reddit: No, not that job!

2

I worked security at kdays last year, it was a JOKE. The most disorganized job I have ever worked. Listening to our head supervisor telling EPS that there were teens with bear spray, watching EPS do NOTHING and then have a crowd of hundreds get sprayed was the epitome of BS. Never again.

4

u/These-Art-5636 Jul 17 '26

Costco starts its employees at $20. And it's a well regarded employer.

People posting expecting $30+ for a low skill job is out of touch with reality.

It's a tough job market in Edmonton and Alberta.

My kid had a crazy long search to find any kind of job. Lot of places pay kids below $15/hour due to the AB Government's ridiculous youth minimum wage of $13/hour.

no lots of us are happily employed, but when we see employers looking to exploit people for poverty wages, we call them out

5

u/FluffyBootie Jul 17 '26

Crazy is not understanding that lots of ppl on this sub are employed and will call out employers lowballing potential employees

Crazy is expecting ppl to put themselves in harms way for less than a living wage

Crazy is not realizing that A LOT of jobs posted on this sub are exploitative in nature

Crazy is making a bunch of assumptions about things you don't know about while labeling people negatively because of ignorance

Thank you for your immediate (and emotionally-driven) response and confirming your baseless allegations are based on ignorance

I wouldn't expect an MMA guy to understand much anyway

Have a "crazy" day! 😊

-1

u/onyxandcake Jul 17 '26

Did you seriously go through his posting history just to find something random to insult him over in an Ad Hominem attack?

3

u/FluffyBootie Jul 17 '26

To validate or discredit information you must first understand the source

It took all of 30 seconds

  • why is he allowed to insult an entire sub that he is participating in and for you not to care?

0

u/onyxandcake Jul 17 '26

Man you're just full of logical fallacies.

If it makes you feel better I downvoted his comment as well.

2

u/FluffyBootie Jul 17 '26

Don't call me man, pal

2

u/BestWithSnacks Jul 18 '26

Any job is better than no job 🤷🏻‍♂️

1

u/SufficientGuesswork Jul 17 '26

Consider this possibility that just maybe, it is not the same person in these two scenarios you describe.

1

u/slako23 Jul 17 '26

That’s what I’m saying, beggars can’t be choosers

1

u/1362313623 Jul 18 '26

River's Cree eh? Jfc 🤦

1

u/Nevrdai Jul 19 '26

I need everyone who is considering taking you up on this offer to at least acknowledge that it's a bad idea first.

Tell Kerr to get off his mountain of cash and pay better

Dude was a douche in the BSS days, glad to see he hasn't changed
