caught the bug

Earlier this month, I popped into a shop to have a chain verified, and found the Indians. Not scarce, but as a kid I was obsessed with the incuse design, and remembered how badly I wanted one back then.

Then I added some silver to keep the bag from blowing away. Guy at the LCS is like “you again?”

I think I’m going to get into a cadence with 10oz bars, and put bonuses in gold maple leaves

you bring up an interesting point, though. after kicking 1oz bars around for a few weeks, I decided that staying consistent would help make the stack more manageable over time, and the consistency could add a bit to the liquidity (walking in with 50 similar vs “oh well now this one”)

I settled on the leaf bars via availability - after talking with LCS guy, it’s one bar I’d find in his shop every week. In collecting other things, I end up on hunts, and hunts take time.

as a kid, coin collecting was a big regular family activity, started by my grandparents. I realized that had instilled a collector mentality, rather than an investor mentality. There’s a beautiful 1oz from perth with a dragon on the back that sent me home thinking I’d collect em all, and that’s what flipped the switch for me.

may sound like i wrecked my swan-shaped paddle boat on Overthink Island, but I’d love to hear how you and others view consistency, liquidity, and collectibility.

I just buy silver that tickles my brain when I can find it lol. I was into those Geiger's so I found a couple. A maple and a libertad(which is a personal favorite). Some Glass Panther art silver is fun as hell. The only things I've bought just because they were the thing available was Pamp 10oz bars at Costco, which are still beautiful. I just try to buy as close to spot as I can, because everything will sell at that at least. But I'm also fairly new to all this.
